"Son ... let me tell you this. Your hobby ... sucks ... and is a waste of time ... trust me I played a lot of Pong back in my day. Also, your dream of making video games ... waste of time too. Now go be that lawyer that I've wanted you to be for 18 years."

I'd just point to them my grades (mostly A's) and tell them kindly to shut the hell up (not literally, but you get my drift).

I think my parents don't really mind it as much as they just don't understand it. I don't recall ever getting scolded for it either. I moved out pretty young though.

My attitude was all like, I do what I want!

Well my mother once asked me when I was going to grow up and stop playing them.

but they are a part of my life, have been since I was as young as I can remember. Im sure as shit not going to give them up now.

My parents think that gaming is the work of the devil, it makes people aggressive, glorifies killing, occult/pagan. Also a huge waste of time for fat idiotic nerds (they ignore any of the facts proving otherwise), and they think it's super harmful for my personality, development etc and just as bad as doing heroine or being an alcoholic (which I am now btw).

They're ultra religious, they didn't let me see Harry Potter, Star Wars or even any of the Disney movies like Aladdin because they are "occult". Until I got fed up and moved out at the age of 17 they didn't let me meet "non-christian" people and stay out after school.

In the last few years I bearly play (not because I don't like games naymore, just too busy those years, eventually when the load will lessen I return to gaming regulary), only about 20 hours (in hsort period of time) every few months, and my parents still accuse me of playing way too much. -___-

When I was younger, they confiscated my console for 6 months. Didn't change anything. Gaming's a lifestyle. As long as you have all your priorities in check, who cares how you spend your free time (in moderation of course).

I'm in this weird position where my parents, who were the ones to introduce me to gaming in the first place, still scold me at 22 for buying games with my own income that is not connected to them in any way, shape, or form.
(It's really cool that I asked my bank to stop sending me paper statements in the mail, yet they still do and my parents get to it every month before I do.)

At the same time, my father just nonchalantly comes upstairs and says, "I wanna play that game now." Which is old-people-talk for, "Drop whatever you're doing, I don't care what it is, I want to play Resident Evil." And he just plops down in my armchair and effectively kidnaps my desktop and TV to play RE. Usually co-op with me.

So it's not all bad. I just can't understand why they get on my ass about buying games when they play them, too? :I My father is so excited for the RE1 remake releasing later this month -- the first was one of his favorites in the series -- but buying it within the next year will probably start a war, anyway.
