Hmm... I know that it is not bad to get that message via email. But in the last 24 hours I got six of those emails. So someone out there checked six steam keys and requested to know the owner of said key. That does make me a little nervous, to be honest.

Opened this thread to see if others are also affected or if it is just me.

I have never received one of those emails, what is it's purpose? Can you check to see what steam account has activated a key? I didn't know that existed, but it would be a very useful feature here on SG to see who activated your key.

Edit: I think I understand what the feature is for now, but it seems kind of useless. If I understand correctly, you try to activate a key on Steam and it says that the key has already been used, there is a button to request an email to be sent with the username of the account that activated the game to the email address on file for that account. So this gives the person trying to activate they key no information unless they own the email address attached to the steam account that the game was activated on. So the only purpose of this feature is if you have had multiple steam accounts (or a really old one) and do not remember your username of the account where this key is activated.

You understood it perfectly fine.
If one has more than one Steam account (which only a minority does), and you find a key, forgot if you activated it, try to activate it, you will get an email at the email-address for the account the key was activated on and will then know on which of your accounts the key was activated.
If this is really a useful function from which many people benefit is for someone else to decide :)

it bugs me that valve dont see fit to let you even know WHAT key was being tried. I mean if the key is yours, was added to your account, and now someone else 'has it', why is it bad information for you to have? But i guess thats typical valve - they want all the power and for you to have none.

I got 5 in the last 2 days, good to know I'm not the only one affected, but now I'm wondering what happened.

I got a couple e-mails after I received a free game from that orlygifts site, I assumed they just gave same key for more than 1 person.

I myself never participated in any orlygift or gleam or similar giveaways for free keys and still got those emails, so there has to be another reason.

Got 10 in 2 days, before that didn't get one for like more than year, something happend, and I didn't use public key for year or so, so I assume it has something with one of bundle sites, hopefully nothing bad and hopefully they will tell us if something happend (if one of them was compromised).

i get a request every now and then. No need to worry, this happens when someone has given out/traded a key and later they are unsure if that is a used key or not used when trading/giving it to someone, and that someone , well not all but there are few who request the query for some reason, not that they can know which key is assigned to which account, its just not possible.
