If I have an extra copy of a game, and I know someone who wants it AND who WILL play it, I dont mind letting them have it. However, I dont use SteamGifts for this purpose anymore. I made a giveaway on my birthday back in March and I got so much shit for it....never again. I just kind of stalk the forums and if I see someone who really wants a game I have, I'll just add them on Steam and give it to them.

P.S. What happened? What kind of shit did you get?

I remember your birthday giveaway, but I don't remember any negativity? Was it a Terraria giveaway? All I remember is seeing a bunch of the usual "happy birthday" messages.

Hmm, along with all the other users, I'd like to know what happened, too. :D

That was a great comment. It shall stay engraved in my soul forever.

I figured it out. I think.... I ain't gonna call out
But anyways I looked at the dudes profile who won the game; and he hasn't even played it.

Sorry for the late response xD I was at work all day.
Most of the shit I got wasn't posted here on SteamGifts. It was in comments and messages on my Steam Profile, which are long gone now. But basically they were along the lines of "OMG Terraria give away a real game" or "WHY U NO PAYDAY2" or "happy birthday f****t".
Angrygamer is partially right as well.
Yeah I don't get it either.

I sincerely hope you made screenshots of all these assholes' comments and reported them to support so they got permabans.

Happens, I also did the "to get rid of extra games". Sometimes you don't want them, but there's surely someone on the planet that wants to try it out :D

To give back to the awesome community of Steamgifts! That and making someones day who wins a GA. I'm always pumped when I win one :D

I just like giving where I can. I'm not the most labour-savvy person or a mr.fix-it type so I try to offer whatever services I have.

It's either because a) I have leftover copies and don't personally know anyone interested in them or b) I think the game is good and should be played by more people.
In both cases, there's also reason c) I like the idea of being able to put a smile on a random person's face if they win the game

If I win games that I want, I feel happy. It must be the same for others when they win games. It's a two-sided street. You take (win) and you give.

Utilitarianism way of thinking... but i can understand it

but i can assure you that.. A LOT OF PERSON THINK SO, even when they do a GA on a whim, that though must be cross their mind... at some dark, murky place of their head

As a video game journalist and gamer at heart, I feel good when I share a game with somebody else. It's a nice feeling to be able to give someone that chance to spend hours engaged with a game because you gave them the chance to. I usually don't give away many games (most of the games I play are press copies) but I try to give away every time I can.

"I really liked this game, more people should play it." Pretty much that. The result is a copy of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams or Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes whenever I see them on sale. :D
With the occasional- "I heard this game is awesome and I haven't given away any bigger games, so why not." but that's usually reserved for puzzles and I haven't made any lately.

Initially, it was giving back. I won a game or two early on, and it then struck me that it would be a nice thing to do if I gave away at least as many as I won.
Since then I got involved in groups and I found them fun.

I know we've never directly addressed each other, but fuck it, might as well say this here, now:
I always like your comments. They're well thought out, polite, and have some actual logic and coherency to them. Also, you seem like a swell guy, and I was happy to see you joined the ELE group - hang out in chat moar! :D
Part of the reason I guess that I've not replied to you before is that you often have summed up my thoughts in your comment already, saving me the trouble of typing :D

Now do I do the whole self-depreciating, "You'll have me blushing" thing or not? I don't think I will this time, lol. It's nice to receive a compliment, so thank you :)
I'll see what I can do about hanging in the chat more often.

Eh, I can sometimes be known for spewing some ill-mannered vitriol at people (albeit never undeservedly), so might as well make a point about just saying something nice for the hell of it sometimes, too! AWWWW YISS this cheap Malbec wine, yum, time to roll a phatty! :D

I... Really don't know. Humanity, perhaps? :P
I just enjoy doing so. It's like asking a drunkard why he drinks, even though it takes all his money away... It's just because he enjoys it.

Just to make a good name for myself at the start, gaining everyones trust and then to take this site over obviously.
There's a serious lack of blackjack and hookers on here. I intend on changing that.

Only the website? Huh. I could've swore you were planning on taking over the world.

:( I know the breaks, man. Hope you find something soon, whether it be a job, or a nice woman to help you get back up with some lovin' and smoochin' :)

Remember two things:
Never forget to take stock of your current position and see that however you feel now, is how you feel now, because <x>. You might meet a woman who is so different from your ex, that the kind of problem(s) you ran into with her may seem entirely alien and odd to this new woman.
Never lose hope for some boobies with a kind heart and some not insane mind behind them! :D

Sorry to hear you're jobless. Many of us are in the same boat, or have been for much of the last six years. I hope that things start looking up fro you, soon. (

Lately I've been thinking why would someone buy a game and give it away simply because "yes" or with no reason at all.
I myself GA sometimes because I'm egoist. Yes, I do it for the pleasure of seeing the winner happy with his new game. :3
What does motivate you to giveaway games?
