not sure about new feature detail, but seem worse to me

Sorry to steal Kaitlyn's original post, but maybe follow the current point scheme. Have public contributor giveaways generate points, but not private/group contributor giveaways.

Well I haven't been here for a year but still had fun and appreciate all your effort! So happy anniversary!
As for feedback, there was no real incentive earlier to inflate your amounts given away, some folks might start gaming the system.
Do the contributor giveaways generate points? (EDIT: OK I got that answered on chat - not at the moment)

The only real way to game this system is to submit legitimate giveaways. Giveaways that aren't marked as Received will not count towards a contributor giveaway. If users submit fake giveaways in hopes to increase their feedback, they'll either be caught and banned, giveaways removed, and/or winner marks it Not Received.

Well that would have to be whole ring not just one person, to mark each other's as received. I see you did exclude 1 entry giveaways to account for that, so what it takes 3 people then. Or 3 accounts, granted with enough cash in and some VPN thrown in not to make you suspicious of same IP. It may or not be worth it, but who knows. And also, as you pointed out, if it goes for too long shouldn't be too hard to spot.. Unless it would be a really big ring. How would you separate it from a legit group if you didn't know any of the people (okay I guess seeing game libraries would at least let you get the folks for not activating games on their accounts).
Yeaaahh doesn't seem likely, but just sayin' :)

This seems like it could really encourage fake giveaways. Perhaps some measures need to be taken for this? Like you're not eligible if you have items marked as not received, credit applies on a time delay maybe? Perhaps some games also need to be disabled as part of the value too (Lucid, Dark Messiah, and the other usual suspects). I know there's no way to be eligible for a giveaway already in progress, but that doesn't mean tools aren't going to make a bunch of fakes or questionable ones today in order to be eligible for one in a month from now.

The value is not added unless the giveaway is marked as "received". So the fake giveaways wouldn't do much good there.

Crossbourne is correct. The current write-up of this feature is the giveaways must be marked Received by the winner. Credit for successful giveaways will be instant as always, but if you don't qualify to enter the giveaway the time it's created, you can't create more giveaways to enter later. Creation of the contributor giveaway will be the cutoff point.
As it stands, fake giveaways are less than 3% and we do not expect increased fake giveaway activity with this feature. Users that submit fake giveaways will be dealt with and contributor giveaways will have "extra" security to make sure contributors are entering the giveaway.

Greetings community,
To celebrate the approaching one year anniversary of SteamGifts on June 1st, an exciting new feature is being implemented called Contributor Giveaways. Contributor Giveaways will only be available for "official giveaways" for now while we're testing the feature. If it goes over well, users will have the option when creating giveaways. Feedback will definitely be appreciated as we work this out for site-wide use.
The giveaways will work by setting two variables: time and amount. These giveaways only take into account received gifts, including those from group and private giveaways, created prior to the contributor giveaway. For example, cg sets up a contributor giveaway for $25 contributed over the past 30 days. If a member did not contribute $25 within the past 30 days, then that user does not meet the criteria for entering and could not create a giveaway past that point to become eligible. They would have needed to create their giveaway(s) before the contributor one started.
We want to thank those that have contributed over the last year, it's been a lot of fun and we've seen some tremendously generous users. We even reached a few major milestones! We've rocketed past 100,000 users and members have submitted over 50,000 gifts totaling over $500,000. We hope the second year of SteamGifts will be just as much fun. It's the gifters that make this site possible and hope they appreciate this new feature.
Best regards,
cg
