i like this idea, though i'm not sure my small contributions are going to be enough to qualify me for any of these...

whatever you come up with i'm sure people will complain, but in the end some people are getting an opportunity to win more games. also this is the first bonus people get for contributing, which will hopefully encourage even more people to give. i like it even if i don't end up eligible for any contributor giveaways (i see there's one for $1 in the past year, but i already have that game).
also congratulations steamgifts for being around for a year and also managing to attract a great community!

Congratulations SteamGifts! Half a million dollars in gifts given, wow! That's quite a bit of generosity from the users on this site. SteamGifts wouldn't be where it is without all the generous contributors. I think it's a great idea to reward the people that have contributed so much to this site. They deserve a chance to win something nice for all the giveaways they have created. :)

Congrats on one year. I sort of like the idea but at the same time don't, because of price changes. For example, when I did my Serious Sam giveaways, they were worth 50p each, and now they're only 5, so it made me drop from having $100+ to my name to $20 or so.

But they also never really deserved to have a 50p value. They were inflated by the fact you could only get them with Serious Sam 3, so at the very most they should have a TOTAL value of 50p since they came packaged together, but even that's stretching things.

On a related note, was there ever a discussion about "wishlist giveaways"? F.e. only people that could enter that kind of giveaway would be the ones that have the game in top X (10, 15, 25) on their wishlist at the moment of giveaway creation.

I know about the wishlist page, but the thing I'm talking about is a bit...narrower than that. Like sometimes wanting to ensure that people that have greater desire for a certain obscure game (`cause everybody wants Skyrim and the like) would have a better chance of winning it. (I feel like you got what I wanted to say in the previous post, but still trying to explain it a bit better)

One thing I'd love to ba ble to do in the wishlit page, is to filter by group. If I'M doing a group giveaway, I could quickly see what people in this particular group are looking for.
Just an idea to keep in the back of your minds that could be nice to put in place someday.

Oooh, you're so young. Grats, Steamgifts, I love you!
And many thanks to the admins.

I'm still wondering, wouldn't indie bundles and the like make these contributor giveaways easily exploitable?

Hey, congratulations on the one year anniversary <3 Here's to way more awesome years to come :P

A few questions :3 Can you make a contributor group giveaway, and do members get 5% of points of contributor giveaway (or do they still get only from public giveaways)?
Also... cg... Contributor Giveaway

Wow, this is an awesome idea! Thanks for everything cg/loko!
Can't wait until the bugs are ironed out so we can make some contributor giveaways.

500,000$+ gift recieved doesn't necessary the actual amount cause games are always on sale so it could be much less in real value given away. Are you counting all the dota2 & csgo giveaway too?

It would be almost impossible to factor in when a gift was bought at what price and when was it submitted to have a "real value" for the site amount. However, when games are devalued, such as DotA2 from 50P to substantially less, all feedback earned from submitting these as giveaways and site-wide gifts received statistic adjust accordingly.

Have to say that I dislike this being an official feature on steamgifts. Kind of makes me think it's going against the spirit of steamgifts- being charitable to random people. I'd be perfectly happy if there were an officially linked "contributors" group that would be exclusive to people who contributed $100, or have it as it is, but have user-created contributor giveaways not show up at all for regular users
Edit: I'd think it'd be good and well to have it be a once in a while type deal, where every couple weeks there's a high-profile giveaway to reward people and convince people to give, but it'd put off new people if they saw that half of the current giveaways cost $100 to enter

It's still charitable to random people. It's not first come, first serve, or pay to win. We're not implementing win limits or direct limitations on accounts, due to being new or low feedback. These are what we've said to be against since the beginning. This feature is just giving another method for members to do what they want with their gift while also rewarding contributors. We strongly feel this feature remains true to our spirit.

It depend on the giveaway creator. If the majority of the creator start creating contributor giveaways we might see decrease in the people, the spirit will be hurt.
Just some random rant:- I hate it when this site is dedicated to give gifts to random users & some people think that they are leechers. In that definition everyone who enters the giveaway is a leecher.

Wow when i saw it I was surprised though it is relatively simple concept, it is a moral boost :). Im happy to be part of this, and I hope this will make other want to give something back to the community. So far the way the system is setup seems pretty solid, i have no bad feedback for it, so thumbs up :).

Greetings community,
To celebrate the approaching one year anniversary of SteamGifts on June 1st, an exciting new feature is being implemented called Contributor Giveaways. Contributor Giveaways will only be available for "official giveaways" for now while we're testing the feature. If it goes over well, users will have the option when creating giveaways. Feedback will definitely be appreciated as we work this out for site-wide use.
The giveaways will work by setting two variables: time and amount. These giveaways only take into account received gifts, including those from group and private giveaways, created prior to the contributor giveaway. For example, cg sets up a contributor giveaway for $25 contributed over the past 30 days. If a member did not contribute $25 within the past 30 days, then that user does not meet the criteria for entering and could not create a giveaway past that point to become eligible. They would have needed to create their giveaway(s) before the contributor one started.
We want to thank those that have contributed over the last year, it's been a lot of fun and we've seen some tremendously generous users. We even reached a few major milestones! We've rocketed past 100,000 users and members have submitted over 50,000 gifts totaling over $500,000. We hope the second year of SteamGifts will be just as much fun. It's the gifters that make this site possible and hope they appreciate this new feature.
Best regards,
cg
