Do you prefer cooking or baking more?
I prefer cooking over baking because I'm not a fan of most baked goods, but I do bake foods for others every once in a while. I'm think I should stay with pastries, because I always mess up when I do something big.

I don't like either. But I guess I like cooking more, 'cause I don't really like cakes etc.
Thank you for Never alone giveaway, sorry I won't provide any recipies - they'd be either too simple or too troublesome for me to write, 'cause I don't care about cooking so much that my vocabulary in this area is extremely lacking.

I feel that baking is too much like a chemistry experiment, I prefer to play around with things, and I don't really measure anything, ever. The other week I made a very nice rub for chicken involving cardamom, white pepper and cinnamon, but I have no idea in what proportion, or what else I added.
Easy recipe base for a fabulous meal:
Cook lentils on the stove, when they're halfway done mix in spinach and heat up a frying pan
In the hot frying pan, pour lots of honey, and a little bit of [soy sauce, kecap manis, worchester sauce] and a dollop of hot sauce
Now fry salmon in the honey, making sure to get it completely coated, and let it develop a nice crust
Spread the lentils & spinach on your plate (make a cute shape for bonus points), then put the honey-coated salmon on top, so it'll mix nicely
Enjoy

Well I agree with the chemistry experiment part but I usually bake mostly pastries without using any kind of measures, unless it's something really new to me, I prefer to play and rely on experience and usually I get great results.
As for baking cakes I guess you might want to have a base recipe on your mind but it's possíble to play a lot too!!

Potato chocolate cake? How does that taste/feel? It looks like an interesting combination to me.
Anyways, I do like baking, I just have this talent to screw up pretty much everything ^^, so I'll just stick to cooking.
I'm a lazy cook, too, so quite often I just end up throwing together stir fryed veggies, couscous and tada, I have a meal.
Here's a surprising base I used for a couscous salad.
Throw the couscous, mint and slices of ginger together in a bowl.
Add boiled water, so the couscous gets to swell up.
Stir the syrup through the mixture, tada.
I like to store it in the fridge for a few hours, so it becomes cold/the flavours have the chance to get into the couscous.
Then I take it out, combine it with slices of smoked chicken, apple, lettuce and cucumber and tada, a surprising meal. :-)

I'd be so surprised if anyone could identify the potato in the cake. I've had my nephew cook i with me and then be all surprised it doesn't taste like potatoes at all. The thing (which you may know) for chocolate cake you really need moisture in the cake otherwise it's going to be so dry... that's why you add the sour cream, but I think that potato really helps too and helps it last a couple days (if no ones picking away at it anyway lol).
My mom makes a chocolate cake with just sour cream but the cake is very crumbly and I don't like that at all. This one holds form very nicely.. and if you break it/cut with a fork, you'll only get a couple crumbs rather then the cake all breaking apart.

These days I'm just baking bread in my bread machine and brownies from a prepackaged mix.
Bachelor's whole wheat bread: 1- 3/4 c. water (incl. 1/8 c. vinegar), 1/3 c. sugar, ~1 tsp. molasses, 2 tsp. salt, 560g whole wheat flour, 1 tbsp. active dry yeast. Add liquid ingredients to bread pan, followed by the flour, then place yeast in a well on top. Set bread machine for "whole wheat". Press start. Three hours and 40 minutes after preparation begins (using the delay timer is an option), remove fresh loaf.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I want to get into more bread making. When I was younger.. like.. less then 19 lol I thought making bread was the most fun.. and I'd get up at 6am to set it etc... but I'm old now and screw that shit. Everyone I know loves their bread makers... and reading this makes me feel like I should get in on it. Thanks!
Although, I think there some easy saucepan bread recipes, but I haven't tried them yet.

Bump for chocolate baking ! Always in love with these as long as chocolate is the main attraction. ^^

I feel like I missed the point...because the thing I was most amazed about is how empty her fridge is.
Also, icky. :D My nephews would love this. I don't really like fondant (the taste) but crafting with it is pretty fun :D Icky (again).. but the longer I watched the video the more I wanted to try it.. Thanks for the link!

I enjoy baking, but rarely have a chance to do so, so my skills are pretty low... I mostly make cookies, my friend and I had this tradition that we made special gingerbreads every December. Unfortunately we weren't able to follow it for the last two years, but three years ago we made adorable Team Fortress 2 cookies.
I'm planning to try a butterscotch-cinnamon pie recipe (inspired by Undertale), but I heard it's not that simple, so it may be too much for my skills. :D
Your recipe seems interesting, maybe I'll try it first. Thanks!

Please share some photos! My brother used to play LoL a lot, so I'll probably be able to recognize most of the characters. :)
The alternative for butterscotch-cinnamon pie from Undertale was a snail pie, but it's definitely too hardcore of a dish for me. :D

The town
Snowmerdinger
Regifted Amumu
Santa Gragas didn't finish with the reindeer Kog'maw though.
They are fondant and everything else gingerbread. I never used fondant before.. so that's why they aren't so perfect! But I tried!

Wow, it looks very impressive. I wouldn't have guessed it was your first time using fondant. :)
I think Heimerdinger is my favourite with his cute little hat. And the train looks so tasty! Now I'm craving some sweets. :D

I was baking a cake the other night and I wondered to myself how many others out there love baking/cooking. I assume lots but asking and then giving away gas for it seemed more fun.
So my request is if any of you have great recipes, please share! :D Please let them be tried, tested, and true. I will try to make anything that sounds interesting so please don't just copy and paste in something from some blog or recipe site that you don't already love and have tried for ages. Personally, I love 'my Grandmother always made it this way..." recipes. Also, please nothing that is a collection of prepackaged ingredients to be mixed with more prepackaged ingredients... I prefer starting from scratch ironically my posted recipe does have a prepacked ingredient in it.. but anyway..
Don't hate me for not adding potato to the poll! To make up for it will add the recipe for Potato Chocolate Cake! This recipe is about 20yrs old. I've been making it almost that long.
Potato Chocolate Cake
Heat oven to 350F.
Grease 10-inch tube pan or 12 cup Bundt pan. Break 4oz chocolate into pieces; place in large bowl. Add potato flakes; pour boiling water over flakes and chocolate. Let stand 5 mins or until potato flakes are softened and chocolate is melted; stir to combine. Add flour and remaining ingredients.
Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 mins at medium speed. (Stir in pecans if using... I never do). Pour batter into greased pan.
Bake at 350F for 45-60 mins or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool upright in pan 30 mins; invert onto serving plate. Cool completely.
Frost with your favourite icing. I like chocolate Amaretto or just rich chocolate buttercream.
I would post a picture of the cake (I hate making things I haven't seen) but atm don't have the pictures uploaded to a site I can link from, sorry. I might try to upload or I might not bother... haven't decided yet.
PICTURES!
Bundt pan, cooling
With yummy dark chocolate buttercream icing
Just in round cake pans with amaretto chocolate icing
From responses I will be adding to my WL. It's random and my reasoning for it follows little logic... most probably it will be because I like something you say and you're at least level 3+
And what you're probably here for:
Lvl 3+ Never Alone Collecton
I lived in the Eastern/Western arctic, (mostly Eastern) and when I played this game it reminded me so much of my time there. If you enter this GA and win, I can't stress enough how much you should try it. It's adorable. I really hope you enjoy it.
Lvl 1+ The Silent Age
This key I have no special story for!
