Do you prefer cooking or baking more?
I used to bake around two years ago, but then my sister decided to take on that role at home and since then I have not done much. I do enjoy the cakes she prepares, though sometimes she tries recipes despite my good advice against them (e.g. pumpkin cake).

Hi there!
Thing is, I don't really follow recipes or whatever, I just sort of wing it with whatever I have available and I guess I'm just lucky that it almost always turns out for the best :D
Also, I'm a vegetarian, so I don't know if you'd even be interested in any recipes, should I know any xD

I tried microwaving cookies... and they ended up catching on fire, sooooooooo ya that was the closest baking I ever did and will probably stay away from that for the rest of my life.

Ouch. I'm not laughing at you, just with you... :D
I never got into using a microwave for cooking anything.... mine went on fire last week actually.. I'm only sad about that because now I don't have a way to heat my plates or a light over my stove :|

I'm laughing at myself too dwdw.
I have a PhD degree in Culinary Art of Microwaving (COUGH I don't, lmao) and have been studying for many years. My motto is "As long as it's not paper, plastic or metal, I can heat up ANYTHING!" (Which was probably why those cookies were engulfed in fire in the first place.. or, well, "sacrificed for the greater good") But anyways, one second silence for your loss. :'(

Bump. People here will go crazy with this chocolate and potato combination, hahaha.

Not a huge baker, but I do enjoy making things with my mother. I wish I had the recipe for our carrot cupcakes handy in English, but our Crustless Zucchini and Feta Quiche (Greek cuisine) and Chocolate Lava Cookies will have to do. I posted them on my blog a long time ago. I should start posting more. We have lots of yummy recipes. :) Thanks for the lovely giveaways too and I hope you enjoy these!

lol.. "Crustless Zucchini and Feta Quiche Thingy" Both sound amazing! I'm keen to try them. I'm going shopping tomorrow! :D and your blog is beautiful looking. You should certainly post more recipes! Thanks!
I had decided not to mention when I wl'ed someone, just was grabbing them as I went but I put you there for your use of 'thingy' there, my favourite way to describe something I otherwise can't.

Yaaay! Thank you. ^_^ I hope you enjoy the recipes. Don't know how you'll need to adjust the flour, but I hope they turn out well. I should actually make the quiche thingy soon. Finally found fresh mint at my local Asian stores and it really makes a difference.

Sometimes I bake fluid simulations to amuse myself...

I like cooking and baking but I have to be alone doing it. If anyone attempts to give me (useful) tips I just drop everything and let them do it if they know so well. It's one of my many character flaws.
I make an okay gluten free chocolate cake.

Baking is a sometime thing for me. I like to eat it more than I enjoy the process :)
I can offer you a recipe I've used that was given to me by a co-worker:
Apple Cake
1½ cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1½ teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups chopped tart apples (about 3 medium)
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts (or pecans)
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches. Mix sugar, oil and eggs in large bowl until blended; beat 1 minute. Stir in remaining ingredients except apples and nuts; beat 1 minute. Stir in apples and nuts. Pour into pan. Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

Less practical for most people, but I absolute love baking in a reflector oven by a fire. Cake is pretty standard fare for me, but cookies, biscuits, cinnamon rolls have all been decent fare. I also enjoy dutch oven baking as well, but that's a bit heavier to lug around. I like cooking in general and like to get spontaneous. Even though I have a very big repertoire, the girlfriend always seems to ask for chicken fingers and french fries (homemade of course).

I was baking a cake the other night and I wondered to myself how many others out there love baking/cooking. I assume lots but asking and then giving away gas for it seemed more fun.
So my request is if any of you have great recipes, please share! :D Please let them be tried, tested, and true. I will try to make anything that sounds interesting so please don't just copy and paste in something from some blog or recipe site that you don't already love and have tried for ages. Personally, I love 'my Grandmother always made it this way..." recipes. Also, please nothing that is a collection of prepackaged ingredients to be mixed with more prepackaged ingredients... I prefer starting from scratch ironically my posted recipe does have a prepacked ingredient in it.. but anyway..
Don't hate me for not adding potato to the poll! To make up for it will add the recipe for Potato Chocolate Cake! This recipe is about 20yrs old. I've been making it almost that long.
Potato Chocolate Cake
Heat oven to 350F.
Grease 10-inch tube pan or 12 cup Bundt pan. Break 4oz chocolate into pieces; place in large bowl. Add potato flakes; pour boiling water over flakes and chocolate. Let stand 5 mins or until potato flakes are softened and chocolate is melted; stir to combine. Add flour and remaining ingredients.
Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 mins at medium speed. (Stir in pecans if using... I never do). Pour batter into greased pan.
Bake at 350F for 45-60 mins or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool upright in pan 30 mins; invert onto serving plate. Cool completely.
Frost with your favourite icing. I like chocolate Amaretto or just rich chocolate buttercream.
I would post a picture of the cake (I hate making things I haven't seen) but atm don't have the pictures uploaded to a site I can link from, sorry. I might try to upload or I might not bother... haven't decided yet.
PICTURES!
Bundt pan, cooling
With yummy dark chocolate buttercream icing
Just in round cake pans with amaretto chocolate icing
From responses I will be adding to my WL. It's random and my reasoning for it follows little logic... most probably it will be because I like something you say and you're at least level 3+
And what you're probably here for:
Lvl 3+ Never Alone Collecton
I lived in the Eastern/Western arctic, (mostly Eastern) and when I played this game it reminded me so much of my time there. If you enter this GA and win, I can't stress enough how much you should try it. It's adorable. I really hope you enjoy it.
Lvl 1+ The Silent Age
This key I have no special story for!
