If the steam sale did end on July 4th, do you think it was too short?

View Results
Yes, it was to short
No, it was just the right amount of time

Too short? It was two weeks long, just like every other Summer/Winter sale. The discounts sucked, but thats par for the course lately.

I remember the time when there was no such thing as summer sale. Or weekend sale. Or winter sale. Ah, coals, sweet coals...

Or a sale in general, old man?

I remember having to walk up hill from home to get to the summer sale during a raging snowstorm (yes, in winter. It happened a lot before global warming. Look it up or something), and then once you realized that the games all cost more than two bits so you had to walk up hill on the way home.

we had no shoes back then, we had to walk 20km through the snow bare foot to get to the summer sale!

Yes, it was late, but it's a fond memory for me because I sold a lot of coals in the 2 initial days and bought so many games I still can't believe it.

All summer sales were this long or even shorter.

It was 11 days, so less than 2 weeks. But does that really matter when all the deals are basically up from day 1 anyway?

They haven't done daily deals for the last 2-3 sales.

It certainly makes it a lot less stressful, but now I miss all the cards!

Yeah, not since they instituted the whole refund system and I would think that it has to do with that. I mean you don't want a bunch of people refunding a game and creating overhead because it goes for cheaper later during the sale.

As far as the cards go, you mean because it's not from voting for community deals anymore? There's a script that you can get that will automatically go through your discovery queue to get the daily promotional cards so that it makes it fairly effortless and works quickly.

It was long enough staring at the same "few" sale items :P
I don't like these static sales :(

Same. I miss the flash deals.

I don't. I would rather not feel like I have to hang around for such things for fear of missing out. I like knowing that all the sales are going to be there until the end and I can put off looking through them until later if I so desire, which I generally do. So this format is better for me personally, even though I do appreciate the whole anticipation/excitement factor of flash sales.

I agree with you there, it would be nice if they planned and brought back some more interesting events like in the past. I think the ones with the potato ARG, the coal, and the Summer camp tickets were among the most memorable.

Seeing the title of the thread I thought it was some troll discussion ><
Btw they are too short probably in everyone opinion, but unfortunately, as every summer and winter all we've got is only two weeks of sales -.-'

Considering static discounts and no flash deals, I see no point in make it longer.
11 days is enough (IMO 1 week will be even better).

I think that a month would be perfect because if you're unlucky enough to not be able to access your pc or your internet connection for those two weeks (exams, vacations or many others) you will miss the sales.
And hurrying you (i.e. making a "summer" sale lasting only two weeks) is definitely more a marketing choice than a customer-friendly choice.

Why won't you be able to check if have exams? You can just start up steam for half an hour before going to bed and check the sale. I don't believe that someone that has exams has no spare time during those weeks.

Because you wouldn't be able to "enjoy" fully the sales...you know, searching for new games, maybe tryin to collect as many special TC as possible etc. Yes, with half an hour you can do the "minimum needed" but with longer sales it's more likely that a very few people will miss deals, special TC and the whole "sale experience".

Well, there is still the weekends. Surely you can find an hour or two then.

Man, I dunno, if you want to argue about the minutes and hours and all the lil' details of a practical example you should talk to someone like the OP who expressed the need of longer sales.
What I'm saying is that longer sales would be better for some people and surely won't change your life and the life of who like me managed to save enough time to enjoy the sales, that's all.

I only logged for the daily three cards, went through my wishlist once and haven't bought a thing. Crafted badges for the free +1 cards.

Eh, it was disappointing anyway. The sales were pure garbage. It might have just been the most anticlimatic thing I've ever experienced.
I wanna be selfish and say that it should have ended after a week because I literally couldn't care less about it after a week due to how bad the sales were, but I think 2 weeks was just about the right time. Not too long that it lost it's magic, and not too short that most people got to experience it.

I don't know why Sales should last longer without price change. Steam sales just keep getting worse and worse

Since the offers didn't change during the sale, I would say even one week would be enough.
