See what I thought about the album here
Original post follows this line

so I was living under a rock the past few days, apparently Apple and U2 collaborated together during the iPhone 6 unveiling and released the band's latest studio album, Songs of Innocence, free to all iTunes customers

however it seems like a lot of people weren't happy with the way the album pretty much downloaded into their iTunes
thus, the first i pretty much heard of the news was when i saw a news article detailing the Apple tool released to REMOVE the album! lmao

what do you guys think of

  • U2
  • the album
  • the album release?
(even if you don't own an iPhone or don't use iTunes i'm interested to read your thoughts :) )

personally, it didn't show up in my iTunes automatically so I had to download it, but hey, free music :) I don't listen to U2 (only song I heard of them was The Saints Are Coming with Green Day) but I can listen to them if i wanted to

okay okay guys sorry about the non-gaming topic, there's a hidden bundled game giveaway if you're willing to search hard enough, CV $30.01

Hasn't appeared in my library, despite the big fuss by everyone.

Don't really mind tbh, I haven't listened to any of U2's new stuff

after giving the album a few spins...erm, since it's digital, i mean listens, here's my thoughts for anyone who cares to read (there's gotta be someone, is there? :P)

  • I've found out that I like Bono's singing voice, I like the timbre, it's quite soothing to listen to

  • Despite that, I HATE his falsetto (when it's not being used appropriately) - case in point, somewhere in the middle of Sleep Like A Baby Tonight

  • The instrumentation isn't half-bad, quite decent

  • The modern pop elements (keyboards, synthesizers, songs that are mainly built around 4 repeating chords) are rather prevalent, unfortunately (the very elements that make me detest modern pop nowadays) - I'll have to listen to stuff like Achtung Baby to see how far they've changed since

  • The melodies are rather catchy

  • The lyrics - uh screw the lyrics, I listen more for the instrumentation (a bit shallow, I know - do you do the same? Let me know!)

  • Track picks: The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), California (There Is No End to Love), Iris (Hold Me Close), Volcano, Sleep Like A Baby Tonight (despite the aforementioned awful and out-of-place falsetto section!)

tl;dr decent album, maybe it's on the lower end of the spectrum for U2 standards but otherwise it's not bad
