Zombie films, eh? Hrmm...
Since Hollywood would rather recycle everything then be original anymore, I tend to lean toward foreign film.
Here are some of my fave foreign zombie (and often, funny) films:
Enjoy!

Here are a few horror movies that aren't so known:
Pandorum, 30 Days of Night, You’re Next, Housebound, The Grudge (ok, this is famous, but you're going to pee yourself ;_; ), Orphan, El Orfanato, My Bloody Valentine, The Frighteners (that's a black comedy).

Here are some of my favorite horror movies that haven't been mentioned yet. There are some oldies, and I know you'd prefer we recommend you new-ish movies, but here it is anyway :
Suspiria(1977) : mindblowing !
May (2002) : not that scary but very good overall
Ginger Snaps (2000) : my favorite werewolf movie
Kairo (2001) : not for everybody. Slow and moody, but if you're into it, you 're REALLY into it
House of the devil (2009) : It takes its sweet time to get to the scary parts, but it's worth it
Near Dark (1987) : Redneck vampires, what else do you need ?
Hellraiser (1987) : Super gross, but a classic !
A tale of two sisters (2003) : one of the best exemples of Korean horror
Bug (2006) : more of a thriller. It's mostly two people talking to each other, but it's intensely disturbing.
The Orphanage (2007) : I can't believe i'm the first one to recommend it. Spooky and poignant.
Midnight Meat Train (2008) : humor, carnage, scares, a good plot : everything you need to have a good horror movie
Lake Mungo (2008) : sometimes I feel like i'm the only one who knows that movie :( Again, it's kinda slow, but there's a scene at the end that still makes me shake today when I think about it...
and finally, if you're not against horror movies that are weird/experimental : Santa Sangre(1989), Tetsuo (1989)

Suspiria, because nobody else has said it yet and it has one of the best horror soundtracks ever. (Edit: Ha, I see someone mentioned this while I was typing this up... it deserves a second recommendation anyway)
The 2012 remake of Maniac is really underrated.
Bone Tomahawk for a pretty unique western/horror hybrid.
Inside (originally titled À l'intérieur), for some French carnage. Not linking the trailer because it's terrible and doesn't do the film justice at all.

I recommended Suspiria a few minutes ago so... gotcha ! :D
More seriously, hurray for Bone Tomahawk. Such a great little fucked-up movie...

Indeed indeed, I put a little edit in there. Got sidetracked watching trailers on YouTube. 😃
