Not exactly obscure, but not as common nowadays, as people avoid it mostly due to the name and how lame most modern vampire stories are.
But Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the best series ever made and nobody is ever going to convince me otherwise. Granted, you have to endure season 1 before the show really finds itself, but it's worth it

Only two seasons, ends with a Cliffhanger, but it's one of the best shows I've ever seen:
CARNIVALE.

Haven't seen anyone recommend Firefly yet. Really good show but unfortunately it got cancelled. The curse of Joss Whedon I guess because another show I recommend is made by him and is really good but was cancelled: Dollhouse. One other person recommended it but it's so good, I watched it twice.
Wentworth is another good one that no one's recommended yet. It's like a darker and much more serious version of Orange is the New Black. If you've watched OitNB then you'll see a lot of character/plot parallels but it's totally worth the watch. I actually liked it a lot better than Orange.

I understand you don't like them, but I really enjoy British Sitcoms (IT Crowd, Black Books, Fast Show, etc...)
Doctor Who is my fave series (obviously xD), but as I understand, you already watched it...
Anyway, thanks for the giveaways xD

Happy Valley. UK police drama that avoids the usual series character and settings tropes by being set in the country, not a metro area, and the star being a middle-aged female officer.
Worth a gander, is shooting series two right now for release in 2016.

Honest question - and since everyone everywhere raves about the show, please try to limit the 'omg I can't believe you didn't appreciate it' vibe.
I didn't enjoy The Wire season 1 - yes, that it is a travesty, and it certainly was realistic drama, but that doesn't catch me on its own. If I wanted depressing realistic stories, I'd just read more of the newspaper.
Does it change or get 'better' in the next few seasons, or is the first season pretty much par for the course?
(I also didn't enjoy 'The Office' Season 1 even though everyone raved about the show, but that got much better for me season 2/3+ - so sometimes that happens)
Also, for OP: Sports Night was fun, heh (and I don't even like sports - its just a very solid dramedy).

Personally the Wire wasn't one of my favorite shows. I watched it because I like Crime Dramas but The Shield was much better.
Can't tell you anything about The Office. Never watched it.

I'm looking for some new shows to watch. I love Dramas and almost any show that has an over arching story line.
However, I don't like sitcoms. Sorry, Please don't recommend them. It's just not gonna happen.
I loved Lost (Hated the end)
I have been watching Orphan Black and love it.
Game of Thrones is an obvious one.
If you know of something obscure, I'm more interested in those, as I have Netflix so I already get those recommendations. Though if you know of one that is a little less well known, please let me know. It also doesn't need to be on Netflix. :D
