I bought Rainbow Six Siege like a day ago.
Now I got a message from Steam saying they removed the game because they had a problem processing payment for this item http://i.imgur.com/TYO3HNr.png

Is there anything I can do to either get the game or my keys back?

the only thing the support team here can do is potentially ban the person that sold you the key. If you want keys or items you traded you need to contact steam support, it's likely they can ban the user from steam as well, but most likely that won't happen. Best case if you used Keys to trade for the game they'll refund your keys back to you provided the person who scammed you hasn't already moved the keys onto other accounts.

It clearly sounds intentional, that's why when trading for high priced items you should be 100% certain that the person you're trading with is reputable before giving them anything.

Many people think most scammers are Russian or Ukrainian. Therefore actual Russian and Ukrainian scammers don't post their country flag, they post usually a Western (mostly American) flag instead on their profile.

Ναι ρε συ.

you got the key/gift from a non-steam way. He Gifted you the content, so there's no way to get a refund since you did not pay for it to steam directly (If I understand the refund policy), not to mention steam revoked the gift due to payment issues (which was theoretically the reason we had trade cool downs, but whatever) , so unless you're planning on charging back the guy who sent you the gift (which I'm guessing you can't since you only have the steam profile), then you're pretty much screwed. Charging Steam for something that's not their fault will result in what we like to call fraud, which is very illegal in many places, and at that point you're account will probably be more than just suspended.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Got scammed 4 keys like this, a year ago. Think it happens quite frequently in the past(which is why steam introduced the 30day trade restriction on gifts), so unless you are absolutely sure the game wont get removed (i.e the guy is very reliable), you should wait for the 30 day trade restriction before you trade. Take it as an expensive lesson I guess. Only thing you can do it report the guy and hope he gets labelled as a scammer, but you still can't get your keys back.

As the trade was made out of the trading window, you've pretty much lost your keys While you could theoretically do a charge-back for the funds used to purchase the keys, but that would put your own account in jeopardy.

The 30-days trade lock for new purchases was specifically put in place so Valve would not have to help you in a case like this. You can rest assured that they're unlikely to provide any kind of help.

The best thing to do is report the guy on Steamrep (with proof), chalk this to experience and move on. In the future, stick to established traders with good feedback.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Did you lose those items as well? If these were lost then you have a chance. If you still have them, then Valve will consider that you still have the items you traded for. Anything you did outside of the trade window is not part of the trade as far as they're concerned.

Permalink

I still have those items, but then it's like I overpaid for those items by 15 keys.
Why can't they just read the chat logs and confirm it themselves?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why can't they just read the chat logs and confirm it themselves?

Because you explicitly went against their Terms of Service that has them clearly state they don't support or appreciate 'unofficial' trades and you do so at your own risk. :P

Anyway, if noon else has mentioned it, you should always report a scammer for 'Attempted Trade Scam' through their Steam Profile. You won't get your items back, but their account WILL be suspended with enough reports.

Basically, if doing any major trades, you're going to want to make sure they're done through the same in-Steam trade window. Anything past that, you'll want to vet the individual in question very, very thoroughly.

Steam Support will not return any items or gifts that you feel have been traded unfairly. ((There are no exceptions to this policy.** This policy does not include games received in a trade that are revoked due to payment fraud (please see the Revoked Gifts article for more information).

If you performed a trade to receive this game, Steam Support will restore any items that were exchanged in the same trade window as the removed gift. If your trade fits this circumstance, please contact Steam Support.

But most notably:

To ensure that a scammer is appropriately handled, and to prevent them from benefitting from this scam or others in the future, make sure that you report them through the Steam Community Reporting feature.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't understand the logic behind that though. In the steam chat we clearly agreed for a price in keys supposed he would gift it to me, what difference does it make that it's not on the same trade window?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

On the one side, they don't want to give you refunds at all, but since using the same trade window is an irrefutable transaction record that is in accordance with the listed and core functions of the service, they're likely legally obligated to assist you in that specific situation.

On the other, they don't want to be obligated [legally or otherwise] to assist if the assisting is a pain to do [versus looking a single transaction up], so they make the rules as tight as possible, that way any assistance they provide outside of that is 'extra'- which is why it's always good to poke them.

Finally, the odds of getting scammed are far, far higher if you do any sort of trade not involving a single transaction window. If you intentionally break their guidelines to do something risky, why should they be obligated to help you in the first place? You're the one who blatantly ignored their ToS.

You're asking them to go through a lot of effort to validate the contents of the chat logs and take you on your word that no out-of-chat bargaining was done, all after you dismissed the protections (trade holds (which prevent gift revoking, since items can't be revoked after a month) and most recently, escrow) they offered in the first place- and that's assuming they keep chat logs at all, which no one has ever actually displayed proof of, afaik.

Steam chat is considered as off-site as any trading source. In fact, the majority of scammers are likely people that add you as friends on steam first, to offer a trade, rather than going through a reputable trading site.

If you're engaging in risky behavior, why would they go through the trouble of hunting down all this information and taking you on your word, and then hunting down all the traded items, when you did something Valve explicitly prohibited in the first place?

Scammers suck, but Valve doesn't want to be on the line for it any more than we do.
If you want a better, more official answer to your question, it'd be better to ask Steam support.

But with that '77,000 hacked accounts per month' and assuming even more simple scams than that, you have to appreciate why they don't want to assist in complex trade resolutions, much less be obligated to.

Again, only Valve can honestly answer your question in full.
My point is more that expecting Valve to help in the first place, was an erroneous consideration to make.
