Is the world ready for Call of Duty Battle Royale Humble Monthlies?
Just got $6 coupon for this from humble after I cancelled. Valid for 2 weeks. Might wait it out and see if there's another early unlock and then use it.

Wow. Definitely worth waiting. Even without another unlock that would be tempting just to get the reveals at the end.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah it is tempting. I just worry that if they deem the value of black ops 4 to be high, they'll fill the rest of the bundle with more rubbish like last month.

On the other hand, they might want to make up for all the disappointment with Black ops and add some decent games. It's always a bit of a gamble :)

Yeah, I will probably bite, I mean $6 is like a humble indie beat the average price, so if it's got some good indies it would be fine.
Comment has been collapsed.
True. Worth waiting to see if they reveal anything else though. Might make your decision easier :)

I got 2$, you should not have canceled it you get 10% + 6$ and the cancel!

Now I'm tempted to cancel too instead of just pausing.

I figured, if you're on month to month, cancelling sends a stronger message that the unlock sucks. Under reasons I even put, "I don't want a starter pack for an multiplayer only game".

Ok got sick of waiting for more reveals and cancelled.
Lets see if they send me an offer for $6 off too :p

Yep, there is a deadline for redeeming the game: https://i.imgur.com/g9vmIwd.png
Must be redeemed before December 31, 2020.

EDIT: Looks like there is an option but requires linking battle.net account to your HB account.

Cancelled, if it isnt Steam I just dont want it, that goes for any game really.

I bought it, but only because my shitty mind couldn't stop wondering whether there's a deeper reason why they haven't revealed anything else this month despite the decidedly unpopular early unlock. Maybe they'll load this month with great/higher value games in an effort to create an incentive for different customer behavior. That's possible... right? To say "you can't judge a book by it's cover so start buying them all, even the ones that don't catch your eye--else you WILL miss out" and to stop so much reliance on early unlocks. This is totally possible right? Right?
They also recently started a new ad campaign, so they can't possibly have a lot of people's introductory one be disappointing... My justification for investing money in this is totally valid and not at all naive. Yes.

or there's nothing else coming in the bundle that would incentivize anyone on the fence to buy it :p I was tempted to still grab it too, but after last months weak effort and the declining value of their bundles over the year so far I decided to not take my chance. Watch this bite me in the butt though...

If you need monster hunting in your life, Dauntless is always there till Monster Hunter World is bundled.

Capcom aren't exactly averse to bundles, I wouldn't be surprised to see MHW in one around the time of the expansion release to drive up player numbers.

The game currently sells for $35, no way it will get bundled for less than a third of that by September. At best in a 3rd tier at $25+ or something.
It sold 12 million copies, the 100k HB monthly subscribers are basically irrelevant compared to that for a playerbase increase.

Eh, I'm losing my interest in Monthly as a high quality mystery bundle. Mind you, I'm being a bit childish with my whole "I only want Steam keys", but regardless, that's my preference. I bought the Overwatch month, so it's not like I'll completely avoid other DRMs. Just that these games aren't good enough. First Origins, which is a good game, but since it exists on Steam, I want that copy instead, so it's my own personal preference and it's not really the fault of Humble. But now it's Black Ops 4. Mind you, CoD games are high quality products and there's no need to lie and claim otherwise. If you find them derivative, then just say that. But the problem with this month is just that you're not getting the game. Instead you're getting a glorified demo. And I'll be honest, that's just useless. The game's not doing well on PC at all and now they're funneling users to basically try and resuscitate the game for another 2 months.
Humble should have the standards to realize when buying a product isn't actually beneficial to their consumers and therefore make some judgement calls. BO4, a multiplayer only game with a highly restrictive edition, should not be peddled off to people like this.

Is it still high quality if they cut corners by cutting out the entire singleplayer campaign? I personally object to calling BO4 that for that reason, I wouldn't object otherwise.
They did the same with BO3 so obviously learning is not in the future for HB and ActiVision.

Depends, right? The gameplay's still good, the graphics are nice, the sound design's just as good. They cut out the single-player, but added Blackout. Mind you, I'm a single-player fan in CoD. I barely play multiplayer. But just because they remove one part of the game and add another, doesn't make it lesser quality.
It's still a AAA product that's well made.
I personally object to calling BO4 that for that reason, I wouldn't object otherwise.
And that's your prerogative. To me, a multiplayer-only game isn't something that is inherently lesser. There's a shitload of multiplayer-only games and a lot of them are great, in my eyes.
I have an issue with them giving the user a lesser version of the game, which locks you out of things. So when the game is already pretty much dying on this specific platform, then locking users out of content is what I'm objecting to. This is less of an issue with the specific game and more of an issue with the product type that's being provided. I'd have the same reaction if this were any other game in a similar predicament. If Siege was dying and they gave the Starter Edition in the Monthly, then my reaction would remain the same.

They remove a part that needs a LOT of developer time (SP), with content like VO, animations, story with the most barebones lazy "complete in a day" game mode; Battle Royale. That's just a large map, same netcode as your regular MP already and... that's it. I hardly call that a swapout with similar quality. It's like trading a Ferrari for a cardboard box.

I'm not a game dev and I haven't worked on their engine. Perhaps it truly is as basic as this.
Because personally I've never heard of a multiplayer-only game be easy to develop. Perhaps you're right and the single-player's really difficult compared to this. I'll take your word for it since I'm not experienced in game development, especially with the IW Engine, since it's not even publicly available. Personally I won't be buying a license just to try it out either :D

Not saying MP is easy to design, but when you already have MP, stuffing a Battle Royale ontop is easy, and just requires some mapmakers. The network and weapons etc. is already shared with the other team anyway.
But you cut out a LOT of excess "meat" like lots of animators, story artists, voice actors, QA.

Yeah it's almost like humble is afraid to say no to a big publisher. Honestly, there are so many good quality indie games I'd sooner want in a bundle than this mp-only starter pack. It's like they feel that a big publisher game is going to be a major drawcard, but in reality a lot of people would sooner see a high quality indie as the headline act. I mean if they led with frostpunk, or hellblade, or celeste, or, or or (seriously, so many quality indie games out there) , I think the reaction would be better.
Any way, after I cancelled they sent me the $6 off coupon, so I gamble this month because I figure the other 6 games will be worth $6 at least, but I really hope they get the message after all the complaints.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yup that was it exactly. I didn't want to pay $12 for the COD demo, so I cancelled right away. A week later they emailed me and offered the coupon to only pay $6. So I figured that deal was fair for the other 6 games. So I guess we'll see.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I did. Probably too late now. But it also seems random anyway. Some people also cancelled and got nothing.

Last month was not that good as a blundle. I wish to have steam keys. No Origin, no Uplay, no Battlenet, nothing. That's why I think I will pause this month (except the will reveal a further pretty awesome game before end of May e.g. Forager). And if Humble starts with Epic games/keys I will immediately terminate my subscription.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, me as well. Good thin is, you can pause subscription until the last friday of a month and this month this will be the 31st I think, so you can pause last minute.
I also opend a ticket at Humble, just to give them feedback and that they should have a look at their subscription numbers/statistics and think about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
When they don't do second reveal till last minute there is possibillity for good unlocks or they just calculated one month like that and it still pays them off. Still I'll wait until last minute with decision to buy or don't.
And remeber that we have a nice bundle with graveyard keeper! :D

Went to cancel but got 3$ off for next month, so I said f*** it why not.
