Something specific, not vague like "fix the contributor system", or jokes like "make me win every giveaway", or "get rid of leechers". Maybe more than anything you want to see giveaway replies on the "Replies" screen, or maybe you just want the background to be orange.

What would you change right now? Feel free to +1 if someone said your thing.

I would like that people that giveaway games from developers cant enter giveaways or,they dont get contribution value from dev giveaways...in the page for create giveaways, put a max quantity like 10 copies..if you want gift more copies, you have to tell to support from where those games come....if they are from developers,mm..that account get no contrib. value for those games..or at max the 10%-20% like bundle keys...I dont know..no complains and not calling out. Just a thought. I love this site and i dont even know all the work that there is behind from the support. Thx for this great site :)

This would be nice. It lets you target a number of entries with less chance of making it too short. I had a three copy giveaway that I would have liked to get more than 3 entries for, but it was late and no one was on. So maybe also allow an extension.

Add Dota 2 to the giveaway lineup, make it give a contribution value of 0 points and have a massive warning in multiple languages stating "Creating this giveaway will ban your account" before being able to submit it. (Just to see how many people would actually do it.)

I would rejigger the points system so that you only get an allotment of points from finished giveaways you haven't entered. The original system is there to encourage people to be more selective with their entries, and though the current system does discourage people from entering for games they have absolutely no interest for, I still think there are people who really want certain titles who have to compete with ludicrous numbers of other entrants who are there simply because they have points to spare.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Interesting idea. Setting up some sort of reward system for NOT entering giveaways, encourage people to only enter for games they really want. May be on to something here, but it'd be pretty complicated.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Or more integration with steam, does checks on the games that people have in their account and bases what they can enter on that. i.e someone who has no racing games in their steam account can't enter dirt 3, this could also be used so that someone who has never played a game earlier in a series for example bioshock could not enter bioshock 2. I understand that some would have played games on other systems or may not have them through steam, but it's a risk worth taking.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just because someone doesn't have a racing game doesn't mean they don't want a racing game! That's silly. And on the sequel thing, some games you don't have to play everything in the series to enjoy it. Also, I have an xbox and there are games I played on the xbox and then got the sequel on Steam.

...
I don't see how those eventual gains you might see coming from this can outweight the bads of people not being allowed to try new things and all the posts and whining about having played all previous games in a series before they discovered steam.
I get reminded of a comment I once read, it was basically "I'll never have any games beside steam, to me those are as bad as piracy."

Allow people to trade/sell/giveaway games they've won. There's no logical reason not to, the only ones that object to it are selfish trolls that complain that they only want one person to be happy with each giveaway. This would prevent people from wasting points idling at 300.

Imagine it's Christmas and you gave someone (anyone) something (anything), and they just turned around and gave someone else that gift. Wouldn't you be mad? You gave them that gift for them to enjoy, not to idly throw away.

There's also the "one person, one entry" guideline to follow. Allowing regifting would allow groups of friends to pile entries and basically game the system. Also, contributor scores could get fucked.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No. Then people can just recruit their friends to enter for them and get an unfair advantage. That's why it's against the rules. It's a perfectly good reason.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah there is one logical reason not to do what you explained.

we're not giving gifts so that others can profit from them.

most other giveaway sites already allow this, so you have plenty of platforms to choose if you would rather trade gifts you won. one of sgifts' biggest draws for contributors is that no trading or regifting is allowed, so that people will only enter for games they personally plan on playing if they win.

That would simply encourage the behavior that's causing the few persistent problems in the community. It's perfectly ok to idle at 300 points if there's nothing being given away that you'd want to play. I don't see why it would be better to rob someone of the chance to play a game they would enjoy, just to trade it.

Built in giveaway entry requirements other than contributor value. Not asking for anything silly just like "Have X amount of playtime in your SG wins" "Have X amount of playtime in Y game" "Have less than 5 wins" "Have more than 50 games on account" etc etc.

I don't want to giveaways that require you to take pictures of your cat, I'd just a couple of options for making giveaways that a selective on other planes than "You are in a private group" and "You have given tons of games".

+1 here as well. These could make the process of entering giveaways a little more interesting, and help to filter out people who, for instance, don't play the games that they have won.

I would also like some competitive ones that could be a challenge to obtain, for instance a giveaway for BigGame 2 that requires you to have earned 100% of the achievements in Biggame 1.

I've already asked for having the chance of showing giveaway replies on the Replies screen;

I think admins now have powers to actually adress suspensions/bans so that's out;

Make the Report function beside a user profile to function properly (unless it's working now, someone please confirm).

Add a few baselines for new users, indulging a bit more on the FAQ and guidelines of the site, in order to avoid "accidents".

Modify the cont value of games based on when the bundle was released; if a person gives a game away which, by the time it costed 25$ and a week later gets released with a bundle for 5$, do not modify the cont value of the giveaway maker, instead, only modify it for the person who gave the game away AFTER the bundle was released. (it would require little to no coding i think, and probably avoid some bitching in the forums about "i lost my contrib value waahhh!").

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's how bundle contributor value works already. Bundle games are only counted as such after the date they were on sale in a bundle. Of course they may be marked a couple days after the fact, so the change is retroactive to include those couple of days. That only bothers those that attempt to game the cv system.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

EDIT: see above^ or read for repeat.

I'm not expert, but my understanding is that losses to contrib for being a bundle game are only applied to bundles created after the day the bundle was revealed. The losses after the giveaway are either because the bundle status was added a few days late (and the person thought they'd gamed the system), or because the game's base price dropped.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Your last point is already how it works. It's from the day the bundle releases. The whaaaaaaa threads are usually when steam physically reduces a games price since SG draws from their database.

Dang, ninjad while typing and watching tv :/ haha

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Like the others said, bundle value takes effect the day a bundle was released, you still have full value if you gave it away before the bundle.

The report function on user profiles works now, at least with the Steam Gifts Plus add-on

Entry Limit.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'd like a way to be able to specify a few games that I would automatically enter giveaways for as long as I have the points available (or will enter once I have the points available) and meet the requirements for the giveaway. Maybe up to 5 games per person. It's real easy to miss a quick giveaway for a game you really want, especially those ones that rarely go on sale.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That would just mean that on giveaways for AAA titles, there would be tens of thousands of entries.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's why there would be a limit to the number that could be put in there. No one would be able to specify every AAA title. It could be limited even further by allowing only one title that is above 40 points to enter.

Amusingly, most of what I'd put on such a list is $20 or less. They just rarely are given away.

If that feature got added, site activity would decrease. Automated entries are not a good idea.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm kind of against automation of any kind, but that's because I view this website as more of a community and less of a slot machine.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Though really, this place gives enough reason to be active as a whole. Another idea could be some added bonuses for certain contributor milestones and a feature like this could only be available to those who have contributed a certain amount.

There's plenty of ways to work it so it's fair and a benefit. Perhaps you have to log in every so many days to keep it active or it can only be set to work for so many days, etc. Certain games can be excluded from it entirely.

Or another way could be is that you can set it to notify you when a giveaway is made that you can enter for a certain game and the site gives a popup notification when you log in or refresh a page to go ahead and enter it. That would be less automated, but would draw attention. Or instead of a popup just some notification.

Or like others mentioned, something to make it easier to find giveaways by the game title. Some folks definitely end up sitting on a lot of points because they miss the quick giveaways for stuff they actually want.
