Hello everyone,

I'm going to try, I think every Sunday, to post links to games that will be released the following week and that I think are interesting and original.

The goal here isn't to put up AAA games, but rather less "popular" ones, so that you can, i hope, discover some nuggets each week.
If I'm lucky enough to received the game from the publisher, I'll add the link to my video to show you a bit of the gameplay.

I can also miss some nice games, so don't hesitate to share the ones that attract you the most ;)

I'm adding a poll to the topic to see if many of you are interested.
Be honest, if it doesn't interest many people, don't let me do this for nothing :)

I hope you enjoy this topic, and I'll start right away with next week's games, to be followed in the replies below.

I played the demo, and exporation is indeed fun. Fluid movement, quality of life feature of getting back to your vehicle at a press of a button (no backtracking needed! \o/) with detailed, beautiful, but cosy postapo world turns out to be a great mix.
There are some invisible walls on mountain peaks though, and environmental puzzles are on a simpler side :/

Simple puzzles are my jam. I'm a dumbass most days and a lazy sod the other days so I'm fine with not having to torture my brain cells too much in game. I got SG puzzle threads for that ;)
I mean, it probably would be better for everyone if the puzzles were more difficult and there was a way to bypass them for the dummies but it's not that much of a problem if there's more to do I guess.
Wish I had played the demo. I missed that one.

Well, I only played the demo that literally features only the starting area, so the puzzles have plenty of room to get harder - especially with our exploration gear progress. But the main focus still seems to be the exploration, so I suspect the level of complexity won't rise too much - maybe just enough to cover our expanded abilities.

Still haven't played the previous one but God of War Ragnarök looks great.

I did play the Copycat Demo at Nextfest and it was really nice. Can't wait to see your gameplay

Enotria is not very well reviewed but the world building is intriguing. Not really into Soulslikes but it's still going on my wishlist for the Italian folklore inspired world alone.

The Plucky Squire looks so cool! It was on my wishlist the moment I read about it!

Seems like pretty much the demo so far. The gameplay could have used more finesse, I agree.
Some of the image deformation also gives me an uneasy feeling which would most likely end with me having to play in short burst rather so I don't end up nauseous.

The first impression I had was rather global.
I've just finished the game, the gameplay isn't great (without being bad either) , but the story is very cool and so are the environments.
The game is very short though (about 3 hours if you take your time)
I recommend it, but waiting for a good promotion seems like a good option.

I agree, the combat system is really bad. But after the first few levels, around level 10/12, management becomes easier, too easy, and the battles are unfortunately no longer of much interest.
The story, on the other hand, is really really good.
The fight system has been the subject of a lot of criticism, so I hope they've worked out in the second opus.

Wow. Seems like the review bombing is strong on Unknown 9: Awakening!
I mean, not surprised since the protagonist is not the usual pale dude and SBI was involved (which apparently is enough to get snowflakes to throw a tantrum) so review/refund was in full bloom but on top of it, AMD had the great idea of giving it away for free which probably didn't go well for the game.
I'll be looking at YT for more balanced reviews because it looked kinda cool when I saw footage before release

Also a game from A Quiet Place? Never heard of that! I will be silently checking it out. Very silently.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Generally speaking, 65 reviews are completely insignificant and, in my eyes, have no value. Even 500 can be surprising sometimes.
The fact that it was given via AMD certainly doesn't help, I agree.
I haven't taken the time to watch any gameplay yet, so I'm not sure how I'd rank it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They are insignificant in the longer run but when they are the first reviews, it's pretty bad for the devs for no reason other than prejudiced false reviews.
If Steam wants to stop review bombing, they should remove reviews from refunded users. It's usually valuable to have reviews from people who disliked a game enough to ask for a refund but when it becomes a way to review bomb games with planned refunds, it's not helpful at all.

Maybe the game is actually bad, I don't know. But it's impossible to tell with review manipulation.

When I said they were insignificant, it was so that I could take this information into account.
Now, yes, I'm aware that some players, those who don't understand how the review system works, take this information for granted.

I guess most of us are aware of the bigger games and it's nice to be reminded of the actual release since some of those are announced so much in advance, it's easy to loose track.
So if you have enough indie games to make a decent list for the week, it's just as well to put those in highlight and just keep the bigger one as a reminder.

I am not surprised, that is true for many Early Access games, it seems.

I can't really see myself buying any more Early Access titles, I have so many games to play that I can wait for the official release.

There aren't just bad early accesses, I've had some good ones. Examples that come quickly to mind are Timberborn, Rimworld, Satisfactory and Raft.
From my point of view, the lack of content in an early access is ok. What's not is a buggy game or one with badly implemented features.
It also depends on the type of game of course. A narrative game, for example, can't work in Early Access (or any game with an unfinished story, in my opinion), but a city builder, why not.
But, I agree that this shouldn't be an excuse for the developer to release a crappy game, and unfortunately too many of them take advantage of it.
In any case, I agree that you have to be much more careful before buying early access.

I've also found a couple great ones -- The Long Dark and Valheim. Two of my favorite games of all time, and I'm very happy that I bought them both during their development and didn't wait for full release.

But 'good Early Access games' are definitely pretty rare.

(Also a big part of this decision for me is just that my state of mind has changed quite a bit over the years).

Towers of Aghasba looks like it's right up my alley. Instant wishlist.

I am definitely intrigued by an open world Star Wars game. I guess I need to read some reviews.
