β€œWhen you hear of Gay Pride, remember, it was not born out of a need to celebrate being gay.
It evolved out of our need as human beings to break free of oppression and to exist without being criminalized, pathologized or persecuted.
Depending on a number of factors, particularly religion, freeing ourselves from gay shame and coming to self-love and acceptance, can not only be an agonising journey, it can take years.
Tragically some don't make it.
Instead of wondering why there isn't a straight pride be grateful you have never needed one.
Celebrate with us.”

Bump.

No Q, though? I'm not a part of the community so it doesn't impact me, but lately I saw people usually referring to LGBTQ, with Q standing for queer.

Even the recent facebook event had that, IIRC.

i could have gone with the full acronym LGBTQQIP2SAA but it seems a bit excessive. i picked the short version Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

TIL that is a thing, though I should have expected that. It reminds me of a community survey I did a while ago:

Image link. Though I was still kinda surprised when I saw this many options (most surveys I've seen sadly usually have just 2)

what 2 and S stand for? why double Q and A? :o

LGBTQQIP2SAA – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender,
Two Q’s to cover both bases (queer and questioning);
I for Intersex, people with two sets of genitalia or various chromosomal differences;
P for Pansexual, people who refuse to be pinned down on the Kinsey scale;
2S for Two-Spirit, a tradition in many First Nations that considers sexual minorities to have both male and female spirits;
A for Asexual, people who do not identify with any orientation; and
A for Allies, recognizing that the community thrives best with loving supporters, although they are not really part of the community itself.

Thanks for explanation. Last time I was in touch with community, it was just LGBTQIA. Two-Spirit thing is completely new information for me.

Irrelevant, as LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bi- and transgender :) None of the four collides with your statement whatsoever, so come on, join the celebration :D

I don't quite understand why anyone would oppose another individual's' sexuality when it has zero impact on them.

Every lesbian woman is one less woman that could potentially end up with me, so it DOES affect me.

Fortunalely, every gay man is one less "competition" so it evens out. :P

My wife and I usually go to our local pride fest & parade, but didn't make it this year due to scheduling conflicts. And it's rather crowded (I think 250,000 attendees last year they said) and we both rather dislike crowds generally, but I find it uplifting to see so many people able to be themselves around (mostly) supportive people, and simultaneously disheartening to know that they may not all feel comfortable doing that the rest of the year.

I just found out about the Gay Bomb.

The "halitosis bomb" and "gay bomb" are informal names for two theoretical non-lethal chemical weapons that a United States Air Force research laboratory speculated about producing; the theories involve discharging female sex pheromones over enemy forces in order to make them sexually attracted to each other.

Bump. I went to a lgbt march last weekend and there were vans, as in multiple, of churches that drove up to protest. From all over the state I live in. Got out their microphones and speaker systems and was just throwing hate towards the march. It's crazy it's 2017 and people still feel that they have the right to dictate another persons lifestyle. Mindblowing.

NICE!
well, the mountains i mean! :)

yeah, see, my chosen words from your statement sum it up (from my point of view at least - im in the UK) - that the US just doesnt have enough seperation of church and state to handle this kind of thing, especially in some areas. I'm sure though, that for all those "pastors" / "preachers" and their flocks that turned up, there was somebody else of the same doctrine sat elsewhere questioning that, perhaps fighting that, or even just considering their own self (perhaps even in a multitude of rainbows! ;)). World has a funny way like that ive found!

I've been blamed to be homophobic just because of my religion. Yes, most of the other people sharing the same religion with me are mostly homophobics but in my opinion we all live with our choices and I will never judge someone with their choices. For me it's just like being judged with your religion by someone else. Happy pride for everyone.

I know a lot of religious people who don't have any problem with queer folk.
There are a lot of religious people who would like us all killed.
If someone who doesn't know you decides to put you in the second category without asking you what your opinion is, then the problem is theirs and not yours. All groups of people have diverse opinions about different subjects. Don't bother yourself with anyone who doesn't understand that.

I'm a rogue science experiment that escaped from a covert government lab years ago. I'm actually 95% icecream and cg is hiding me in a state of the art freezer in exchange of answering support tickets. I dream of the day when I can walk out into a cold December day as a free delicious monster ...

That or despite being latino, I fucking hate anything above 25C where I start to get hot and sweaty.

I was into the scene some in my younger days, but that petered out over time. I do still go to at least one march / pride fest every year year.

Some of my non-LGBT friends were disappointed at me for not going to the march, since I'm only somewhat recently out of the closet.
But waking up early to walk around with a sweaty crowd on a hot day under the sun in an already big event in a gay friendly city? No thank you lol. Maybe next year.

One of my best friends is transgender and she's one of the most kind, generous people I've ever met.
As long as you're a nice person, I really couldn't care less about your gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Go human beings!

Happy Pride month! My city won't have an event until September, which is pretty terrible because of all the rain. I couldn't join the last few years due to that but I managed to watch the parade last year, it was really fun! Best wishes to my fellow LGBT friends, I hope you all have a great Pride month and a good rest of the year too.

Haven't been to a gay march (or parade?) yet, but definitely plan to go to one. They not only make sense and are (unfortunately) needed, but seem like a lot fun. Too bad I just missed the last one a couple of weeks ago. I should mark it on my calendar for next year :-)

That's an interesting point you brought up there.
I would say, sometimes it's a parade, and sometimes it's a march, depending on where it's being held.
