Spring cleaning your wallet for this Monthly bundle? ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)
Probably because it was bundled on HB just like a week or two before it was part of the Humble Monthly.

That's what I'm trying to figure out, if people are unhappy because it was in the freedom bundle, or because they think it's not a good enough game. A lot of people seem really pissed with this unlock. The thing is, not everybody dropped $30 on the Freedom bundle. It's kind of an in-between situation. Yes, it was in a bundle, but it wasn't a regular bundle that very, very many people could have been expected to buy. To say it was bundled is almost misleading, because it was a premium sort of bundle. What I mean is, I think a lot of people will be happy to get the witness because they didn't buy the freedom bundle. A certain proportion of monthly subscribers always already has the early unlock. But, yes, that proportion will probably be higher than ever this time around.
It's not a great situation, I agree. I think the $5 credit is actually pretty good compensation, but a little low. I'm far more pissed about not getting Subnautica in the Freedom bundle, though, and I've been making sure not to give Humble any tip/share of regular bundle purchases, because I don't know when I'm going to get over that.
Also, The Witness's stupid "choose Steam OR drm-free" option is stupid. Or maybe it's smart, but not consumer-friendly.

Yeah, I think it's just that the last two unlocks, Total Warhammer and XCOM 2, were so much bigger, more AAA, and more expensive than the unlocks had previously been, that after two months of this kind of unusually-premium AAA content, coupled with the Freedom Bundle issue, people are really low on this month's unlock. Those two pleased a lot of people very, very much. The Witness is as or more expensive than any other unlock, though - it and Dragon's Dogma and Alien: Isolation all $40, and everything else less expensive, sometimes much less. It's just XCOM 2 and TW: W ($60? $70?) blowing everything out of the water with rather ridiculous value for money ($12), if you take MSRP as value. HB made the leap up to real AAA games for the unlock in the last two months, and now they've gone back down.
That, and The Witness isn't an action game and doesn't belong to a popular franchise. :/
I believe there was a similar effect with the mass disappointment over the March monthly being a bit overstated due to how much value for money and how many recognizable names were in the February monthly, compared to the niche, indie March games, leading to greater outcry than if the Feb (and Jan)!monthly hadn't been so good.

Just noticed the typo. :-)

Does a walking simulator with 400 puzzles (some of them frustatingly hard) sound appealing to you?

From the small amount of time I had to try out The Witness (Steams 2 hour refund rule) I enjoyed Talos Principle a LOT more then The Witness. For me, I didn't like the simplicity of the way the puzzles looked in The Witness, ie you have the little square thing and you move through the mazes with your "curser" or whatever. And from what I remember seeing of The Witness when it was released, it wouldn't change much. I'm sure it's a decent game, with some challenging puzzles, but Talos Principle was a lot more fun for me. It's difficult to describe, but it seemed a bit more interactive because you actually had to carry around and place shit etc. Makes me want to do another playthrough now :3

"you have the little square thing and you move through the mazes with your "curser" or whatever"
Well, this is the basic mechanic of puzzles, but additional elements are added on the way so in the end the puzzles become quite complex and involve much more than just moving through the maze.

Yeah it was a bit difficult to explain. For me the biggest issue was just that the puzzle visuals never really changed. Granted I had limited time to try it out, it didn't really catch my fancy. The time I had did allow me to see the puzzles become more complex, but the puzzle screen was still the same. Obviously I didn't have enough time to see what the endgame puzzles looked like myself, but what I've seen on Twitch and YouTube, that doesn't change much.

Maybe not, but the way you solve them changes a lot throughout the game. Some require you to listen to sounds or look at the environment for example. My favourites though was when you had to solve those puzzles while walking through the mazes (so instead of on the board, you had to walk through the actual puzzle).

Thank you for your comment. I think I owe the game another chance at some point then. Hopefuly I'll get pleasantly surprised :)

yes, do that. it's really a brilliant game. it's in my top3 of 2016, together with Witcher 3 and Ori. :)

The main difference between The Talos Principle and The Witness for me is that the latter doesn't follow regular game conventions. Most games like The Talos Principle and the Portal games follows the format of teaching the player something, then making sure they know it, before using it in an actual puzzle. Basically, making sure the player knows what they need to know before allowing them to progress further.
The Witness doesn't do that though. It just throws stuff at you and you miss something or interpret it the wrong way... you're basically out of luck. Sure, it's open-world and you can go somewhere else if you're stuck on a particular puzzle but I found the whole thing to be frustrating to no end.
It reminded me of how old-school point-n-click adventure games used to be. You could sometimes miss an item at the start of the game, that you needed to solve something at the end, leaving you lost as what to do. In The Witness, it's not items you miss but knowledge about how to solve certain types of puzzles... and it's even more frustrating and way easier to miss.

Hum, the puzzles are also gradually getting harder too... It just add another layer of logic by finding the rules with the easy puzzles instead of reading it, but eventually you get them and you can solve everything. That's what make it great for me actually ^^

I agree on that. It was fun to play most of the time, but some of the puzzles were just frustrating. I actually looked at some walkthrough after a while for some puzzles.

Kinda sounds like you're describing a challenging puzzle game. The whole "walking simulator" term is rather overused. You wouldn't describe a point and click adventure game as a clicking simulator, would you? Or a FPS as a shooting simulator? Walking is a way of exploring in a lot of games. In most games, you can even interact with the world around you. Rather few games that you really just walk along a path.

Normally there's a thread for guessing what's in the next Humble Monthly. Is that not being done this month (don't see a thread for it) ?
Comment has been collapsed.
Asperyules is the user that has done it. Maybe it will be created soon, but if not ... are you volunteering? ;)
I do enjoy guessing, and Asperyules is really generous about it (non-bundled, doesn't care about CV). I don't think many would be interested in going through all that work if Asperyules stops doing it.

I wouldn't mind volunteering, except I'd want to give a really nice prize if I did (like DOOM, Nier Automata, etc.) and that's not really within my gaming budget atm.

I'm guessing you've seen the thread by now, but in case not...

It just means your CPU and GPU are busy, it's not a problem.

Personally, I didn't know any of the games beforehand. From quickly researching them I'm also not really interested in any of them.
I'm still not sure if I'll activate any of it on my steam or if I'll give them all away.
But I heard a lot of people liked this monthly, so I wouldn't say it was a bad one. Just probably not the one for me ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
Well that's unfortunately. Had a look at your steam library, not many overlappings with my library. If you are even slightly interested in shooters you should keep Black Mesa I think. Personally I'm fine solely with The Witness for the asked price, but I will keep the wishlisted games as well. Anyway you can trade for whatever you want :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Everyone seemed pretty excited about Black Mesa, so I think I'm gonna stream it and see if it's something for me. Just because the games aren't my thing first look doesn't mean I won't like them if I try them out :) I guess I'll be either trading or giving away Event 0 and Tumblestone. Tumblestone just really because the price is too high for the content you get in my view. Probably someone else would appreciate that more ^^

there's a lot of people guessing that since the witness has been bundled before the mystery games are gonna make up for it.
But that's just guesses, really. You should probably judge from the previous monthlys, of the bundles without the header games would've been worth it for you. If you already have the Witness you could still give it away or trade it after all c:

it will be worth getting this monthly for someone who already owns "the witness"?
Who knows? I assumed yes and bought the bundle even though I had "The Witness" already (such a wonderful game). You can always trade "The Witness" for something else as many people are interested in this title.
Comment has been collapsed.
you can purchase the bundle, and have a 5$ credit if you already own the Witness from the freedom bundle
other than that, and even after having The Witness already bundled before, it is getting sold here and there for 7-8e, so a trade is fairly easy, in my opinion

You can find the counter at the top of this page, in red: https://www.humblebundle.com/thq-nordic-playstation-bundle
In any case, it's in in 8 hours, 16 minutes from this post.

:) As you can see, the counter is only there when the "month" is almost over.

Well... I get the Layers of Fear DLC to 100% it... And event [0]... The rest meh :(

Oh no, I definitely don't hate it! I actually need to play it D:
Glad the bundle was good for you though :3

I actually didn't get the bundle. I purchased Black Mesa way back when it went to Early Access as it excited me like crazy. In all honesty, even though it's been, umm, a year and a half? two years? since that day I still haven't played it myself. I've been waiting for Xen to release so I can play it in its entirety.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I'm in the same boat as you! Bought is like 2 years ago and I'm kicking myself leaving it to collect dust!
Do you want anything from the monthly? I took Layers, Witness and Event though D:
Comment has been collapsed.
Okay if you are sure! Nah its fine, I'm not bothered about the games! I'll probably make a giveaway with them then!
Comment has been collapsed.
Agree. Pleasantly surprised with this one. Event[0] along with Witness and Black Mesa. The New Kingdom looks like it could be decent too. Maybe I'll try the Layers of Fear, but I generally shy away from games with jump scares and I understand it sortof has them.

The witness, Kingdom and Event 0 => I'm really happy !

By far the weakest bundle for me personally since the monthlies first started.
Oh well, better luck next month (2 early unlocks in one month, nice).

Tumblestone "trial" version was included with The Bridge steam key from the Humble Freedom Bundle.
http://steamcommunity.com/games/269710/announcements/detail/289753044201032030
So it already shows as owned for me. Is the version in this Humble Monthly the full version (60 levels) or "trial" version (30 levels)?
Comment has been collapsed.
Cool, thanks.
If somebody else has the same sitaution as me, Humble bundle does not allow to click the "Redeem on steam" button in the bundle page because it thinks I already own it. But if you go to your library in HB you can get the steam key from there.
Comment has been collapsed.
You usually can click those anyway although they are greyed out ;)
