Something like Elite Dangerous but with less hassle. Anything in that scope even if its 2D , not on Steam or on Browser. Elite I own but it lacks any real depth and its a huge mindless grindfest with sporadic good moments. I would like something with a bit more consistency and with a more close-knit galaxy/universe. Elite is also so VAST there is almost no chance of encountering real people.

Heh, I'm comparing space games I've played to your library, and can't find any that you haven't tried except for the X series, though X is probably even more empty than Elite Dangerous.
Starship Rubicon is a fun, though short, 2-d roguelike space game.

How about trying Freelancer and/or Starlancer? They're not available on Steam though.

Ah these are older titles. Sorry I did not specify I will edit now. But I am looking for something a bit more modern maybe 2012ish+

Rebel Galaxy, it is only single player though but try the game.
Rebel Galaxy gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VReG-g9NgY4&index=1&list=PLhDxP38KR0TFBQyPnHdykZwwWmpDkrS8m
Star Citizen is also planned to be released this year in the future.

"I recently tried Elite Dangerous (amazing game with 0 depth) , Starpoint Gemini 2 (pretty damn good and my backup in case I can't find something else to play) , Rebel Galaxy (but feels more like Naval exploration by the way its combat plays out). "
And I own Star Citizen but that still has a long ways to go xD

EVE is an even longer time investing grindfest and takes a lot of social interaction. Also a lot of good areas are pretty much too much risk solo vs reward. I tried it years ago. Tbh all I know of it is secondhand from watching streamers and such. But it just feels like something not for me. Maybe I am wrong.

space exploration / looting game
Borderlands and Borderlands 2 is technically in "space"...

I heard Empyrion - Galactic Survival is pretty good. Never tried it though.
I see you've dabbled a bit in Space Engineers. If you play on a survival PvPvE server, it does become a great exploration and looting game. You can explore the different planets/moons and invade other player's bases to loot their stuff. Then again, they can do the same thing to you.
Learning curve is a bit on the steep end, knowledge in physics really helps too. I started playing SE during winter sale and found it pretty brutal. My ship/spacestation got destroyed and ransacked twice. One of the invading enemy ships looked just like the Imperial Star Destroyer from Star Wars.
As for the social interaction, you can go it lonewolf and avoid other players if you want. I'm lonewolfing right now on a server with my camouflaged ship.

Space Engineers is too much like minecraft for me sadly. Tried it 3 times and can never get into it. Empyrion looks nice though but I see its mainly explore to craft. I would really love to find a game that isn't a sandbox or requires gameplay to be 75% or more in crafting.

Given that you've already listed Starpoint Gemini 2, Zigfrak (http://store.steampowered.com/app/259430/) may be one of the few recent titles thats worth checking out.
From older series there's the X games (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/59487/)
I think Kerbal is quite interesting, though a different style of space game that doesn't really mesh with the other listed titles.
In a similar fashion RymdResa could be worth a few hours atleast, but is a very different take on space exploration and likely not what you're looking for.
There just aren't many games being made in the style of Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen and Starpoint Gemini - so odds are you've already either played them or dismissed them.

Odd I own Zigfrak and never played it. Will give it a shot and let you guys know. But ya , it seems like there isn't really much available atm. A shame Frontier are such douchenozzles, ED is amazing but its so boring and empty of content. No point playing it either the way they are doing "seasons". Calling it content when its just a glorified season pass. Bastards wanna charge for nothing but promises and zero guarantees. Shame.

Rodina has some potential but not yet. Will be keeping an eye on that one ty. The rest I have tried or am waiting for them to get further along in development.

Surprised it wasn't mentioned but go ahead and try:
FTL ! (Faster than Light)
Well it's a tactical exploration game, with major roguelike elements (though I call it rogue-lite), but to tell you the truth the best part about it is not just the gameplay and strategy part, but also the text descriptions and choice and consequence risky part, while exploring each sector. xD Randomization makes sure that each time you play you'll encounter different things etc.
I've also heard good things about the Endless Space game.
EDIT: Not Endless Space but Dungeon of the Endless

Ya I own it and played tons of it. While it is nothing short of an amazing roguelike game. Its not really a space exploration game xD

Endless Space is not even in the same genre we are discussing here.....
Its a strategy 4x game not really anything to do with actual space exploration or simulation.

Yeah indeed I actually messed up the title of this one. I was referring to another game called "Dungeon of the Endless". Sorry for that. It's still a hybrid though of many genres and probably not what you are looking for. In any case glad to hear that you did like FTL regardless. And anyway I usually prefer hybrids in this genre, as you may have guessed already.

That's planetary exploration. While nice its not what I am looking for. And that is also a crafting game which is also not what I am looking for :(

Own it and still has far too long in development to enjoy tbh.

Seems to be a combat game , not really exploration or simulation.

So I have quite a few games in the genre but I haven't been able to really find one that holds my attention. I am looking for a space exploration / looting game. Even if its a browser games its fine. As long as the quality is fun and it isn't p2w.
I recently tried Elite Dangerous (amazing game with 0 depth) , Starpoint Gemini 2 (pretty damn good and my backup in case I can't find something else to play) , Rebel Galaxy (but feels more like Naval exploration by the way its combat plays out). And a few other titles but I have yet to find one that appeals to me for a long period of time. And none so far are multiplayer games which would be preferable.
Just wondering if anyone could suggest some I may have not heard of yet. Something modern though. 2012ish+
Cheers.
