This one is pretty good for gaming:
it has 970M which is great for gaming :D
and no there is no problem if it is FreeDos you just need to install OS (e.g Windows).
Comment has been collapsed.
Yea you can play them, you can play them on more than middle settings with 970m, 960m is not bad but i think its not gonna be that good for new AAA games.
Comment has been collapsed.
honestly there is no big difference, you should use i7 only if you are rendering (autodesk 3ds max, cinema and so on), i5 is more than enough for gaming.
Comment has been collapsed.
For me - if I want to use the laptop for gaming, I will buy a desktop machine(better machine for the same money)
GeForce(r) GTX 965M is the best u can get for that money
No, it aint a problem(you dont pay extra cash for that)
If I decide to buy one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01H9UVTQM or if u have extra 200$: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01H9UVSX6/

Also i want to know what you think about 960m too. Is it low for new AAA games ?
Can i play gta v at middle settings or more (without delay) with 965 m ? ( also i'll be glad if you answer this for 960 m too because i still can't found 965m for my country )
Comment has been collapsed.
Then go for this: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GE62-Apache-Pro-239-i7-6700HQ/dp/B01D8VJ0B2
You will not regret the extra RAM

I don't think he has gta V and to be honest not totally sure what he's tested so far but he seems well happy with it so far.

With that budget, I would wait for something with an Nvidia 1060m.
But I don't understand why would you be interested in a gaming laptop but also interested in stuff like FreeDOS.
Gaming laptop means Windows 10 with a dedicated GPU on a full fledged Intel ecosystem, which means no Libreboot and so on.
You could build a proper desktop around a GTX 1070 plus a separate basic portable laptop with that money.
hardcore gaming on a laptop is questionable
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeap i understan you and already know it.
It is because i want to use it as my works too ( i must use autocad and others ) And that requires strong computer too if you interesting with modelling stuffs. And also mobility is important for me too.
Comment has been collapsed.
no there is not going to be, cause there already is =)
1060M & 1070M Asus ROG Laptops
edit: my bad. those are not M (mobile) series.. though it makes no sense to me how its not a "mobile" gpu in a laptop :S
Comment has been collapsed.
i think he meant that the 1060 and 1070 in a laptop will be equal to the desktop version.
the M in the GPU in desktops normally means that it's a "weaker" GPU then the desktop version of that card. As such there "will be no" 1060m and 1070m just a 1060 and a 1070 that work in both desktop and laptop
Comment has been collapsed.
oh well yeah, by default they are instantly lower frequency and nowhere near the power of the desktop versions. its only the same architecture is all.
well the M actually didnt stand for weak it stood for "mobile" and they were the same architecture as the full desktop cards were just typically set at a lower frequency so it would not produce as much heat. but i guess i have no idea what i am talking about on the 10xx series... im guessing they dropped the M to just make things look better tbh though and its still the same lower frequency changes.. but thats only a guess without looking into specs.

the 960m you keep asking about i am on, i do not own GTA5, but i do play other AAA on it all the time (fallout 4, far cry 4, elder scrolls, etc). its fine for gaming, but i would have to draw the line and say it is the minimum (on nvidia side) that you would want to go... anything below the 960m would be a waste... however yes ofc, the 970m or 1060m will ofc smash it. =)
imo though the ASUS ROG series or the MSI Gaming series laptops are the best ones, about equally so imo.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thats exactly what we did when looking for a new laptop, even in desktop's I won't go below the ?60 version of a graphics card. Would have gone for the 965 or 970 but outta price range or only came with DDR3 memory or only an i5, no SDD etc . For the 800 quid he spent it was the best around.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah, if i didnt have to have the 17in monitor instead of 15in i would of gone upto the 970m instead.. i sacraficed the upgraded gpu for screensize too keep the cost down personally =)
this is the model i am on (with HDD removed and dual SDD added) - but if screensize is not a concern i'd probably drop it down to 15in and raise the gpu and still come ~ the same price.
Comment has been collapsed.
We did look at that one but it was a couple hundred more than we had so opted for the MSI instead https://www.scan.co.uk/products/156-msi-gp62-6qf(leopard-pro)-1087-26ghz-i7-6700hq-8gb-ddr4-128gb-m2-ssdplus1tb-hdd-2gb-gtx-960m-dvd 8GB memory less and only 15" screen but about the same.
Comment has been collapsed.
On desktop I'd say an i5 would be plenty but on laptop with the graphics down when compared to a desktop I'd go for the i7 little extra boost. If you can get the i7 then get that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hope I've been some help, altho there's one last thing I dont think many have mentioned and that's probably try and get DDR4 memory if possible rather than DDR3 altho I'm sure most decent ones do but they do still have DDR3 in a lot of laptops.
Cheers :D

for gaming either the i5 or the i7 is perfectly fine, but since you said you did CAD work, i would probably still push more for the i7 since that is more intensive on cpu.
as for the important AAA game question, actually on most i set on High @ 1080p and have no issues even including fallout4. so yes you could get even more performance by dropping down to medium. this is all for 1080p though and the 960m will not do VR gaming at all, and it will not really perform well for 4K AAA gaming.. but if 1080p is all you care about (like me) then its a great affordable mobile gpu.
Comment has been collapsed.
my advice from lots of experience:
unless you really absolutely need the GPU (and CPU) power on the move, you'll be far better off with for example a 300-400€ laptop and a 800+€ desktop, on all points of view possible except that computing power on the go. This in €, $ prices are much better.
you could probably get a good i5 and a 1060 (or even 1070)((or AMD equivalent)), + all the advantages of desktop (such as upgradeability and easy maintenance), though you may need part of the budget for a monitor or TV and such peripherals, but still. And the laptop should be just good enough for the lightweight that most work is, and it'll be cheaper to maintain, temps are better, it'll be a bit lighter and so on.
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't get one with a shiny screen. All it will do is reflect sunlight and make it harder to see.
Make sure you read reviews on the specific model.
If gaming is important I would stick to a 1080p resolution.
Don't forget to see how good the warranty is.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because with half the money you could get a much better desktop, which you can upgrade or replace broken parts of very easily. Unless you need mobility, but you have to drop performance.
Anyway, if you need a laptop, I strongly recommend one with an ssd (you could replace the hdd too) to greatly increase performance and battery duration.

Bro, Get this: Razer external graphic dock and this Razer blade stealth you will also get $100 store credit that you can invest in a good GPU and you can upgrade your GPU whenever you like without changing your Laptop.
or you can up your budget a little and get this: New Razer Blade

Price is high, but personally, I like the build quality. However, the graphic box mentioned above can be used with any laptop supporting the connection. These boxes are available from different manufacturers as well.

A great GPU, nobody puts a great GPU and garbage everything else in a laptop, if the GPU is good so will the rest be.
960m? You can already get a great one with GTX 1060 in it around your price range.
You can install Windows 10 yourself.
https://www.amazon.com/GL502VM-G-SYNC-Gaming-i7-6700HQ-7200RPM/dp/B01KB0WJ1G/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473855847&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_intended_use_browse-bin%3A9647497011%2Cp_n_size_browse-bin%3A2423841011%2Cp_36%3A100000-150000
That one is excellent if you can spare just 100$ more.

You asked what's most important in a gaming laptop, and that is it, a great GPU, everything else in the laptop will be able to support it properly, the laptop I recommended will allow you to max out everything at 1080p at playable framerates even up to 60 FPS sometimes.
Comment has been collapsed.
its 2.6ghz upto 3.5ghz in that cpu
they have more flex in mobile cpu meaning they idle in lower speeds and do not start to go to the higher clockspeeds until its necessary.
and that laptop imo is a great choice if the $100 difference does not bother you.

About recommendations... can't really give you any, I recently purchased this one for 1300$ but it has yet to arrive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8S14H07846
Need to say, I took a huge risk because the company isnt really known but from what I could gather they are very good (you pretty much can custom build everything) and it's pretty much the best bang for your buck right now.
I personally would recommend to get a good desktop, gaming laptops have advanced quite a few on these last years but they still suffer from heat and battery issues.
Comment has been collapsed.
At those price ranges there wasnt any that fit my full criteria. I had my eyes set on the Asus you recommended earlier, comparing both I found the eluktronic more favorable, for the Asus I would've had to dish out 100$ more, would've lost the SSD in favor of more ram and the g-sync. It looked reasonable however the unfavorable reviews listing the terrible quality control, bad quality build, false advertising and really high temp issues changed my mind.
Not to meniton I'll be using this primarily in a place where there is tons of sunlight so the antiglare of the elutek is worth gold for me.
MSI... as much as I like them they are way overpriced, anything remotely similar for those specs is between de 1500-1700$ price range, and i'm sure as hell not setting for a 960 or 970 when I could get a 1060 for the same price.

Take a look at the specifications - Alienware (DELL) - http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-15-r2/pd
I'm not a big fan of laptops but i have a few friends which own the Alienware 15 ... the $1,399.99 one.
Comment has been collapsed.
there is noting wrong with alienware, but your paying a small amount more just for the name tbh.. that extra $ could get slightly better hardware in asus rog or msi gaming machines instead imo. but if you want to pay for the name of a laptop then by all means xD
and warranty to be fair... they (alienware) do have better warranty and support..

This one was pretty good: DELL Inspiron, I got it for my brother.
You can also look at the few discussions on the same topic for ideas.
Pretty sure there was one 1 or 2 months ago.

I bought a HP omen the 1300$ version has a gtx 965m 4gb and a i7-6700HQ quad core processor u should buy the one with the 4k screen because the 1080 is just a bit dark for gaming still playable just annoying if u play really dark games..
Comment has been collapsed.
Thats a different model or probably people who don't clean the fans after a year. I have mine for 2 months now and i can play dark souls 3 on it without it getting hot at all (the hp omen also has 2 fans instead of 1 like most laptops)

Personally, I went with a Lenovo laptop myself. I see there are better ones on their website than when I purchased about 2 years ago, I went with the Lenovo y40-80. http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/gaming/laptops.html
I initially purchased just for work and some games to play on the side, however mine runs great with games like Fallout 4. :-)
Good luck with your purchase research.

I see you're giving your budget in dollars, but if you're based in the UK or Europe, I highly recommend Medion laptops, when I bought mine 5 years or so back I spent loads of time researching and found they had far more options at FAR better prices for laptops with mid and high end GPUs than anywhere else.

Take a look at Clevo Notebooks, you can customize these notebooks a lot. For example you can choose SSD for the cheapest model. Want a 1 TB SSD, no problem. 4, 8, 16 GB RAM? Your choice. Don't need a DVD drive, get a second ssd instead or a bluray drive.
Often you can even choose the CPU.
Look here for example.
Clevo builds the barebones and sellers of Clevo Barebone Notebooks let you choose the parts you want.
Mine is from Schenker (a reseller) and I am really happy with it.
Take a look at this (GTX1060 in your price range) or this model (GTX1070 a little over your price range) for example.
And a Guide (reddit wiki) explain who Clevo is, why you should consider Clevo and where you can buy it.

I would go for a Asus ROG if there is any in ur pricerange i dont own a ROG myself only a simpler older Asus(K55V) and that has been good for me
Comment has been collapsed.
try to get one with the newest GPU you can, newer GPU -> lower consumption -> lower heat -> lower noise, the GTX1000 series are being put on laptops, guess the cheapest is the GTX1060.
for the rest of it, everything should be pretty straight forward.
Comment has been collapsed.
with 1.3k you should be able to find something with 970M :) it will be much stronger when it comes to gaming
I won't help you with exact models as I am looking for something cheaper (prolly Acer VN7-592G), stronger cards are in Acers G9-592 (aka Predators, but those will probably cost more than $1300)
people say that MSIs are good gaming laptops, dunno why, but I preffer those Acers :)
I saw in your replies below that you want 15,6 inch screen so remember to pick FHD screen, not the 4K
I wonder if you'd be able to find anything with GTX 1060 ...
Comment has been collapsed.
my luck ... I was away for 2,5 day, I get entrance to a high-win-chance GA and ... I am 4 hours late :) anyway, still thank you very much
If you finally pick something, please tell me what was it (if you'll still remember :) )
ah, one more thing
I've seen below, that someone recommends SSD drive - that's good, but I am thinking about a hybrid - I'll get a HDD drive laptop, where I don't care that much what drive is it. then I'll add SSD m.2 bought by me, because those ssd's in laptops are usually added by shop
e.g. you can find many different notebook models in a webstore, but those are physically just a single machine, shop adds components to match what you order and you can get some really random, sometimes used stuff (good thing to remember is to actually read SMART data)
Comment has been collapsed.
let me ask you the most important question: Does it have to be a notebook?
If you want to use it for gaming only, a notebook is non-sense. For that $1300 budget you have you can get a AT LEAST 2 times better desktop pc (if not 3 times better) in terms of performance and the best thing about that is you can always gear it up instead of buying a whole new notebook just because (example: ) you lack RAM or need a better graphics card.
in general for gaming:

Comment has been collapsed.
Comment has been collapsed.
Comment has been collapsed.
Masaüstü dizme işinde , parçaları takıp sökme işi uzmanlık gerektirirmi epey yoksa kolay bir şekilde yerleştirebilirmiyim kendim birde biraz araştırdım ama neredeyse aynı fiyata geliyor gibi gördüm , şu anki laptopumun ekran kartı paylaşımlı , bunu paylaşımsız bir modelle değiştirme şansım mümkünmü ?
Comment has been collapsed.
