I bought the BTA on the spot. Astebreed has been in my WL for a long time and I miss a few games from the first tier (though having another copy of Vanguard Princess is dreadful x.x)

Vanguard Princess has been bundled to death already, and the others are all repeats from one of the Japan weeklies.
(Well, Astebreed wasn't on the bundle list yet due to it being a tier 3 for that weekly. But still.)

Only ones I didn't have were Asterbreed which was on my wishlist and Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae whiich I've almost bought once or twice when it's been on sale on Steam. The BTA price is quite cheap so I'm ok with that. If it was around $6 or something I'd have probably said no.

In what way?
I don't think there's anything wrong with it from the point of view of gamers hating it. It's just that it's the one game on Steam that's quite possibly been in more bundles than any other. People who buy bundles regularly, or even just occassionaly are very likely to already have it. As Rachel mentions in the OP it was also given out for free at one point.
If you're asking why it's often sold so cheaply in bundles and wondering if that means there's something with it then I don't know.

Bundled 14 times really makes me wonder about the quality of recent Humbles... :/ The BTA is pretty good on the other hand, at least for me. It's quite cheap too.

I'm not that into SHMUPS and I already have everything else, but Revolver & Astebreed look too good to pass up for a $3.27 BTA. Plus, proceeds from this bundle help to support Playism publishing (one of the few publishers actively working in the Japanese indie scene) and you can choose to give money to EFF, which is one of my favored charities.
