I would say Morrowind is MUCH better than Oblivion if you can stand the ugly overall graphics of it. There are of course mods to improve on the visuals, too.

True, faces are so wtf. But if you can get past that, I would say yes, people say it's an overall better game than Skyrim, just redeem it, you won't regret, it's an Elder Scrolls after all, it won't disappoint.

I loved it when it came out but recently went back and STILL like it except for the leveling system also the fact that the character "glides" on surfaces instead of walking BUT that's present in every bethesda game up-till skyrim

I think there was a good mod for better facial realism in oblivion... Can't remember for sure now though...

"Realism," you say. Think of the time period in which the game takes place. The people's appearances looked fair to me. Those mods make them look like artificial supermodels. But to each their own, I suppose...

Oblivion is a great game, redeem it, you'll like it.

Oblivion's character building is much different from Skyrims. You don't have perks and it feels much more classic RPGish to me. That's the biggest difference IMO.(Except for the obvious setting/plot difference :D )
If you liked Skyrim for it's story and world lore/history you should really play Oblivion (and Morrowind), if you really liked skyrim's gameplay and action elements Oblivion is a bit different. :D
Hope that helped a little.

kthxbye haha nice one, and indeed he might have started with Skyrim and then moved on to Oblivion

Fallout New Vegas is better than Fallout 3. NV was made by the original creators who made Fallout 1/2. That is why it has more variety, more dark humor and more stuff in general. They simply were let loose to make whatever they liked. It's more true to the original 2 games.

The part about sleeping is true... I spent nearly 30 days without doing so after I fought with the half Orc in the arena because he refused to fight me and I had to defeat him to win... When I saw the message "dark forces observed your deeds" or whatever, I freaked out :D

Yeah, mostly UI ones. And maybe some "Draw Distance" mods too.
It's a great game, I liked the "Discovery" feeling of Oblivion better than the one in Skyrim. And I remember Kvatch/Oblivion gates being REALLY creepy, some caves too, but maybe that's just me.

[SPOILER]
Most of the planes of oblivion that you can visit through the gates in Oblivion are usually those of Mehrunes Dagon (since it is the Mythic Dawn opening them) and his planes are what you could easily describe as "Hell". As I recall, the planes of oblivion reflect the deadric Prince's personality to which it belongs to.
[END OF SPOILER]

In my humble opinion
Morrowind > Skyrim > Oblivion
TES IV felt quite repetitive to me, lacked the ambient of Morrowind and was dumbed down. While Skyrim is simplified to compared to morrowind, it regain part of the atmosphere of a TES game.

Everyone looks at Skyrim as if it just came from nowhere. Just like most sequels, Skyrim is a more polished version of the Elder Scrolls games, to and extent. The rest of the Elder Scrolls games are fantastic and I'd recommend them to anyone.

It's basically the same game as every one that came before it, except in Morrowind they nerfed levitation & in Oblivion they took it out entirely. I spent more time playing Daggerfall than any other TES game (even Arena) & I still laugh uncontrollably whenever I hear the word 'halt'

Skyrim is very, very simple. Anyone can play Skyrim and be good at it. Oblivion is not for everyone. It can be very difficult at times. The graphics may be worse, but keep in mind that it was released back in 2006. That doesn't stop it from being bad.

I actually lowered the graphics settings of Skyrim to low and was shocked when it was almost exactly like oblivion :) why? Because the Friend's computer where I played it could not handle the higher settings without heating to around 75 C

I did not like Oblivion as much as Skyrim, mostly because of graphics. It's just personal preference in my case.

Oblivion is a wonderful game. I heard Skyrim is even better, but I haven't played it myself. And yet... If you liked Skyrim, there's no reason not to try previous games in the series too, I'm sure you'll also enjoy it. ^_^

I played Oblivion first and I was so lost that I drop it just 1 hour after starting. A few months later I took Skyrim and I got hooked so badly that I couldn't play anything else until I had 80+ hours played on it.
So it depends. Maybe you like, maybe you don't. Give a try anyway :)

go for it, game is worth a shot... i played that and skyrim, i prefer oblivion, skyrim is more boring in the long run.
Also heard lots of times morrowind is the best, tried it but quitted after 30 minutes, couldn't stand the controls in that game >_<

It usually is harder to play a prequel of a game after playing the sequel; usually because the older games were made at a time when computers were less advanced then they are today and developers were limited in the things they could offer in the game. It took me quite a while to figure out how to use bows in morrowind, whereas it is more intuitive in oblivion and easier too.
Ps: I wish there was an oblivion mod that allowed you to visit morrowind; obviously not in the same time frame as the game morrowind (I.e. at the time of TES IV) and likewise for both cyrodil and oblivion in TES V Skyrim.

Oblivion > skyrim
the thing about elder scrolls is that is a true rpg with tons of variables and stats, just a huge amount of things to consider and a high learning curve, that all died with skyrim it turned into a noob-friendly game, go play oblivion you will see it is just far better than skyrim.

IF you are a fan of "true" RPGs. Thing is, it is not that easy to determine what is a true RPG anymore; so many sub-genres :) but I would agree that Skyrim has a much wider target market with its simpler approach to character Development and so forth. Dual weilding of weaons and spells is a nice feature though ^^ should have been in oblivion too :(
