I'd suggest Nissan Almera, models before 2006 ofc. Like with all the old Nissan you probably won't have any problems with them (mechanical failures etc), 2003-2006 model looks very nice imho.I dunno if it's girly, but I like the raw looks of old japanese cars :)
Other suggestions: Mazda 3, Peugeot 206, maybe old Lancia Y (from 90s).

Hatchback versions aren't that long. You've mentioned Renault Megane before, I think it's longer than Nissan Almera hatchback (sedan version is probably longer :)). Oh have you checked first generation Renault Megane Cabrio? It should be cheap, I remember it had opinion of girly car back in 90s, dunno anything about reliability (these very small electronic problems are very common in french or italian cars)

You should get probably a car with a petrol engine: short distances (especially in the city), the winter cold... are a problem for a diesel engine.
I own a 2006 Grande Punto and I think it looks very pretty. It was a good deal for me. :)

The 4x4 is totally adorable but there aren't many used ones available, actually there's only 1 in my price range and it's from a city known for salting the roads a lot so the chassy/undercarriage would probably be in a horrific state :(
As for Punto, I drove one once (the older sporting model) and I just hated how it felt

The new beetle is too expensive and there's no way in hell I'm spending my money on an old car that'll require more to keep it working in the next year than the car itself cost xD
Also, I'm not 18, I need to leave a professional impression when I go to work and I highly doubt that a beat up old car would manage to accomplish that. xD

It won't need that much money, maybe a renovation every couple of years :v
and it's pretty professional-looking if you take care of it, maybe put a sign on it saying "Ey, I'm a professional".
But if you insist on being even more professional, then my final suggestion is the 1976 Mini 1000 Mr Bean's car that'll be awesome.

Buy a Fiat punto or Fiat bravo, pegeout 206 , suzuki swift - atos - opel agida.
All little car. I have a pegeout 206 from 15years old its OP for the city and is really strong
For low price u can buy also fiat 600 but is really small
The smart is shit they are projected with limited Km, after 80000 kilometres the car need to change the engine.
sorry for english

I've already said a lot of times that Punto is out of the question as I really hate that car.
For 206/207, it's already in my "to seriously consider" list :)
Fiat 600- hell no xD
Smart is a pretty coffin xD
I'll look into suzuki swift - atos - opel agida :)
Thank you for your advice! <3
Also, happy cake day! :D

The sizes of these 2 cars and 207 are comparable. I wish you enjoy your new car, good luck with it, and hope you will post some images of it when you buy it!

I have a citroen c1 that cost about £5000 when I got it second hand, it was about a year old at the time. It's worked really well for me, no problems with it, really small for parking. Only problem is it struggles with hills sometimes as it doesn't accelerate, and I've not driven it in the snow (but it coped with extreme flooding ok).

Well, I have no direct experience on this one, but you could probably easily find a Chevy Aveo cheap, they aren't sold in EU anymore and people might start getting rid of them as getting replacement parts could be harder in future (but actually support might just be switched to Opel circuits). I don't know if LPG is commonly used in Croatia, but if it is and you happen to find a dual-fuel version you will save a lot of money in the long run :)
I purchased a Chevrolet Cruze (its bigger cousin) in 2012 and I'm pretty satisfied so far (after over 3 years).

What about 206+?
I drive it since 6 years and its a great car for short distances, also for longer, dring every year on holiday with it.

A 2004-2005 VW Golf 4. Look out for rust, but it's very reliable and if something breaks then the parts are super cheap, and if you go with the diesel then the consumption is around 5l/100km. And you can probably get one for about 3000-3500 euros.

Why not take a car-savy friend on 2-3 day vacation to Germany. It would cost about 250 euros and you can get Golf 4's for about 2500-3000 euros, something like:

or http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=209880946 - petrol
And you'll have even money to spare.

What do you think about a Seat Leon from 2006?(pretty much a golf 5 but way cheaper, a diesel 1983 cm3 would go for about 4350euros)

Golf 5 and newer are not really famous for their reliability. On the contrary. https://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=BXE&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#channel=fs&q=BXE+engine+failure

an Alfa Romeo 147 from 2006 should do the trick then ,you can find them for around 3900 euros ,they look pretty good
or a Kia Ceed

I don't know about your country, but Kia is a great brand and not so expensive, I drove a 2008 Kia Picanto for 6 years and it served me well, I took it to the beach and to the lake, it was a loyal friend.

The cabrio version is quite sexy indeed :D
Thank you, I've never even heard of it before!

Ohoy!
We drive a Toyota Aygo from 2014 (the new model). I like it very much. I really don't know about the prices, since the car was only released one year ago and I live in Denmark. Denmark is REALLY EXPENSIVE when it comes to cars O.o. The plus side would be that every version but the lowest have rear view camera as a standard (because you talk so much about the big window =)).
Edit: Meh, forgot how to link Picture, wait a minute.
Edit Edit: Ah, got it! XD

They call Peugeot 107, Aygo (the old one) and C1 triplets as they're all so similar.
I found some older ones (2006) in my price range.
The new one is soooo sexy and cool but far far out of my price range (I have 5000 and this starts used at 11000)

Well, the time to start thinking about buying a car has finally come and I have no one (who really know about cars) to help me with this decision so I resort to you, my dearest people of SG.
Time and time again you've surprised me with your knowledge and I'm really hoping you'll be able to give me some advice with this. I wouldn't even be opening a topic like this here if I had any hope of getting help on a Croatian forum but, as far as I've read, people there can be so mean.
I'd deeply appreciate your opinions and knowledge <3
Here are the facts:
I'm from Croatia
I live close to the sea but there are also hills around
It can snow quite heavily (the heavily part often only for a week or so) during the winter
I haven't really driven a car for the past 5 years (since I got my license)
I learned to drive (and was pretty amazing at it) on Peugeot 107
The car would be used for short distances 99% of the time (going to work, shopping and stuff like that)
The car would be garaged
Here are my wishes:
I need a small car. I don't feel comfortable driving long cars and I know if I get one that doesn't fit me I'll just avoid driving it and be extremely nervous when I get in it.
It has to have a big back window so I can actually see through it (like Peugeot 107, unlike Citroen Xsara)
Air conditioning would be great but I can survive without it
I need a car that has a "quick start" and is very maneuverable but isn't too strong (I don't drive over 120 km/h, ever)
It must be pretty <3
And now for the worst part....xD
I could scrounge up, at the very most, 4500€ (maaaaybe 5000 if I stopped eating)
I was thinking about Peugeot 206cc but I've read a lot of bad things about it in the forums (the leaky roof, goes all "klinky-klanky" as time goes by and so on) .
Peugeot 206 and 207 are also options but, again, have read bad things about them.
The reason I'm leaning towards Peugeot is the fact that I've learned to drive in one and I'm just used to the feeling of that brand. It has all the controls in all the right places. I feel like I could just jump into one and get back on the road without a problem and, I'm sure you all understand that after 5 years of basically no driving, this is really important to me.
Naturally, I'm not married to Peugeot and other brands are also an option, it's just that I haven't thought about them much.
TL;DR: Need a small maneuverable car, can't be too strong, have at best 5k€, must be pretty :D
