Yeah, so, I bought Delver a few days ago on Steam and I just discovered this game called Eldritch. It was mentioned in a thread. And I could kick myself because it looks a lot better. I don't mean aesthetically. It's just that, from the playthroughs I've watched of Delver, seems like it can get a little slow and there's not enough going on. This Eldritch game looks like it has a lot more going on for it. However, I'd like opinions from people who have actually played both games, or at least Eldritch. I was going to add Paranautical Activity too but that's probably a stretch.

TLDR: Tell me which game you like more and why! So I can determine which is ultimately the better game.

Eldritch looks like it has more action than Delver has.

That's what I thought too! Although I just read the negative reviews on it, and apparently it doesn't have much going for it either. . . . "3 or 4 enemies per world" and "about 6 useable items." Welp, I'm at a loss.

Eldritch is cool if you like HP Lovecraft's book/universe.

I haven't played either but I can tell you that Paranautical Activity is bad. If you want something like it just play BoI.

Aw really? I was gonna buy Paranautical Activity. Well thank you for the heads up.
Too bad Steam doesn't have this "Bol" game though.

He meant The Binding of Isaac, but BoI is shorter. =P

OH. I have that. I really enjoyed it and invested many hours into it, but I have unfortunately grown sick of it. I'd like to know why he didn't like Paranautical Activity. I watched a long playthrough of it, and it looked so great- very fast paced and packed full of action.

Comparative to Isaac its boring and there just feels like there is less there. It just feels like somebody thought "let's make a 3d Binding of Isaac", which granted isn't a bad idea, but didn't spend enough time making the controls and gameplay tight and letting the game work on its own instead of being a derivative concept.

Or at least that's what I got out of it. Granted I haven't played it that much. If its on sale for a few bucks though it might be worth checking out if you don't mind potentially being out a few bucks. If you are patient and keep an eye on bundles I'd wait though, it will probably be in another before too long.

Lemme just say that I played delver and while it was really really really good it's extremely short. I beat it with my second run and it took me less than three hours. The atmosphere in Delver is very soothing and you will really have fun and even an experience. I'd say. I got Eldritch, yet to play it but the atmosphere is apparently very creepy and much more difficult according to my friends.

Both aren't complete so it can go either way right now. Delver is getting a better modding toolset soon and hopefully workshop support to allow infinite dungeons and loot- hoping we get that soon cause I loved Delver.

I didn't play Delver, but can say few words about Eldritch; It's a game based on HP Lovecraft novels, so if you're fan of those (as I am) it is a big plus! Graphics are nice, minecrafty, I'm also fan of that... As for gameplay, original game levels are pretty easy (for a roguelike) and can be finished in about an hour... It's still interesting, though, but replay is limited because game lacks achievements and leaderboards... But, they added Mountains of Madness free DLC (update), it is much longer and harder, and it added some new interesting equipment and monsters...

Either way, it's a nice game, I would recommend it, but cannot compare it to Delver, which also looks really nice...

I haven't played Eldritch but I did play an alpha build of Delver about 6 months ago. This was my impression at the time:

The game is fun at first but as it currently stands it gets fairly repetitive, even with a certain amount of level randomization. I also found it to be much too easy and my backpack was almost always full with wands, potions, and food by the end of level 2. Even the tougher enemies in the 2nd half of the journey were not too difficult to deal with once you know what to expect. On multiple occasions I also managed to kill the boss with a single shot from a Storm Wand. Another criticism I have is that too many of the potions do similar things and it is too easy to heal up in the game. Perhaps put in some sort of hunger system where you eat food to keep from starving and not to heal. I would say Delver has potential but basically the game just needs to be fleshed out a whole lot more.

That said, it's had 6 months to mature a bit and maybe it's a more compelling experience now? Can't really say though...
