I like these Castlevania like games, so I play it. BUT I think like many other smaller retros. They don't get much support or purchases.

The Sega Saturn version of the game (ie. the best version) also recently got a fan translation. For anyone playing the game for the first time, if you have access to a Sega Saturn, that's the version to get since they seem to have botched this remaster (it's a port of the rather bad PS1 port, and the videos shown so far have both visual and audio issues, not to mention them smearing all the textures instead of leaving the original pixel art or doing a proper redraw).

But too bad, that they have changed the graphics. I hope you can choose between the original look and the remastered one ...

I was growing up with SEGA Master System and yeah it's retro.
But I think these games under 2000 can be count as retro as well. :)

For a long time I considered games over ~10 years old, or two console generations ago, to be retro, but that definition is really losing a lot of its value, 10 year old games are pretty much like modern games, but with more bloom. But early 3D games are absolutely very different from modern games.

I think one needs to be a bit careful to avoid definitions of "retro" and "classic", that only includes games that were out when we were kids. And I'm speaking as someone who had an Atari 2600 as a kid :P
As for Grandia, it's old enough to drive, heck, if Grandia was a person, one would not find it strange if it had already had a kid by now. And it is very clearly made in a different time, following very different design sensibilities to what we would expect to see today.
