2016 has been a pretty good year for me so far. I've won four games, one off of my wishlist. Of course, this string of good luck makes me incredibly nervous, and I'm pretty sure I've lost my 1.0 ratio by now. So I should probably give something back.

Rather than vomit up one of the terrible bundles available right now, I've decided to give away one of my favorite games of 2015: Downwell. If you like fast paced rogue-lites like Spelunky, Nuclear Throne and Super House of Dead Ninjas, you'll probably like Downwell.

I know what you're thinking: Why make a thread for a single cheap game if I'm not even going to hide it behind some obtuse puzzle? Well, I wanted to try out SGTools. Here's the giveaway link. I tried to keep the requirements pretty low, just keeping out rule breakers and prodigious leechers. Let me know if I screwed anything up.

Bumps and thank yous are appreciated, but I'd prefer to get a discussion going. What was the best game you did play in 2015, and why did you like it so much? It doesn't necessarily have to be a game that came out in 2015, just as long as you played it for the first time last year. As usual, giving a thoughtful answer will get you on my whitelist. I for one really liked Undertale...maybe I should give that away instead. Maybe later...maybe for the whitelist.

(PS: I cleared my blacklist at the beginning of the year, so if you've managed to go 10 days without being totally obnoxious, you should be able to enter!)

Or maybe you did play it?(Poll Requires Games to Vote)

Yes, thank you for wasting my time.
I own it and haven't played it, but I'll go do that right now since you gave it such a shining recommendation.

Oh man, Downwell is pretty fun, a lot like Spelunky, Binding of Isaac, etc. in that you can have just as much fun playing it for like 2 minutes as you would going for 20 or more. The soundtrack is pretty good, too.

Thanks for the chance to win Downwell! I was tempted to buy it on last sale. About the best game played in 2015... maybe could be between Wolfenstein: New Order, Bioshock Infinite and Ikaruga. I think Ikaruga is the one that suppose a really challenge to me and it's the most I enjoyed. Salud!

It's hard to pick only one:

  • Apotheon
  • Valliant Hearts: The Great War
  • Dying Light
  • The Wolf Among Us

I bought Downwell recently and it's really fun.

Played FNV long ago, but cannot get past New Vegas because I was undecided with the choices. This year I finally got the courage to fuck everyone and side with Ceasar.

Anyhow for 2015, the best game I played is LISA the painful. The was like a great movie. Loaded with emotions and feels.

I loved LISA, although I actually played it in late 2014. I need to get around to playing the DLC.

Well, as some people have written, it's hard to choose only one, so there are my top games:

  • Witcher series (haven't played W3 yet)
  • Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians (great music game)
  • Trine series
  • Geometry Dash (another great music game)
  • Mark of the Ninja

However, none of them were published in 2015 but I really enjoyed them all :-D.

Undertale I absolutely loved! I was kindly gifted it from a good friend on SG. Previously I didn't enjoy anything that wasn't graphically at a standard I wanted, basically -- AAA new releases was all I wanted. After looking at it and hearing reviews I decided to give it a go. I fell in love with it and it has changed my view of games as a whole! I recommend playing if you haven't, I did the true pacifist run and it's just... Wow! Haven't laughed so much, been so angry or almost cried at a game in a while!

Hum, I Clearly think my best game of 2015 is an indie game : The Binding of Isaac Rebirth. I was very frustrated before the game was released because my laptop didn't allow the first Binding of Isaac to work properly. So I had the game, but wasn't able to play...

Now, I'm having some fun with all these rooms, characters, and patterns I've not finished to learn yet.

(Sorry if my english is not perfect, I'm a french native)

I just discovered CS:GO in august or something like that last year.
Probably the game I spent the most time with, and seeing improvement :)

The best game I played this year was To the moon! Loved the story of that gem.
Would play it again and can recommend it to anyone who hasnt played it yet :)

Besides steam games, I play a lot of Hearthstone, but my activity there has decreased from time to time.. mostly doing dailys nowadays.

A few other nice games I play(ed) in 2015:

  • Stick of truth
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • Hitman Absolution

And, for some reasons, I really enjoy the pixel puzzle games :D

For me 2015 was a really good year, I finally played some great games from previous years. I planned to point out only 2 or 3 games, but then I looked at the games I played in that year and I just can't leave any one of those titles not mentioned.

  • Prison Architect - It's been some time since I played a management game, especially as good as this one. I definitely need to play more of this.
  • Legend of Grimrock 2 - Probably the closest game to a real RPG session. I knew I would enjoy it, but I never expected to love it so much. I'm surprised how little attention this game gets.
  • Left 4 Dead 2 - Our group finally decided to give this a try (we all got it for free in the 2013) and it's one of the best co-op experiences we had. Now we feel bad for not playing it earlier.
  • Broforce - Running, shooting and exploding. Somehow, it reminds me of the original Contra, but fortunately it's much easier.
  • Hand of Fate - Strange combinations of genres, that works out really well. And that card dealer makes it so atmospheric...
  • Hatoful Boyfriend - Really great visual novel hidden behind "HAHAHA! YOU CAN DATE PIGEONS!"
  • One Finger Death Punch - Screenshots and gameplay videos don't explain what makes it game so awesome. It really makes you feel like you're a kung-fu master who can kill hundreds of people using only two buttons.
  • Undertale - One of few games from 2015 which I played. In it's case I don't want to say why it's so great. If you played it - you know why. If you didn't - you should definitely give it a try.

Bump and thanks! I didn't know about this game, but it seems cool! I will definitely play with it sometime.

Well the best game for me I played last year was Rocket league. Yeah I know... I got in the hype train, but I seriously really liked it.
The other two game I would like to mention is Chip's Challenge and Super Dungeon Run

About Chip's Challenge I was playing with it back in win98 days When I was around 6-8 years old (yeah I know I'm still young :D) I really liked it back then, and when I found it here in Steam, I just had to buy it! It's still a cool puzzle game. I swear it seems harder now :D

Super Dungeon Run
This game got me whit its graphics and gameplay. not a hard game, I would say its a really easy game. The whole game can be done in 5hours tops.I found it when it was in greenlight and its still in early access. After it was added to steam I bought it, and have some much fun with it. It's a perfect time killing, and good game to play when you have only 5 minutes. Sadly the developers are "missing" from october.hopefully they will come back

Best played game of 2015 for me was difficult, so many good games after the crappy year of 2014 (Yeah we don't speak of that year.).

The games that stood out for me in 2015:

The Witcher 3
Metal Gear Solid V
Undertale
Fallout 4
Mad Max

The winner though has to be The Witcher 3. The Witcher 2 never caught my attention too much and I haven't play the original Witcher, but with all the great marketing of The Witcher 3 I had to buy it on release, just the game looked superb, though it released to a few bugs, it was mostly perfect, the story is amazing, simply the best full priced game I bought this year.

Fallout: New Vegas or Skyrim, can't decide between them. Rocketbirds Hardboiled Chicken would have been on the list too, but i started playing it on the 3rd.

Well, I played Metro Last Light for the first time in 2015 which was one of the favorite games in my entire life. The atmosphere, sounds, music, story, it was all insanely well done (at least for me). It looks beautiful, the story even made me feel sad but oddly happy at the end (that almost never happens). I remember when I was playing Metro 2033, it was kinda scary, but I wanted to keep going, the story, combat, everything made me fall in love with this series. If you haven't played it yet and like S.T.A.L.K.E.R or Fallout type games I definitely recommend you to try it.

Probably a toss between Unepic & Risk of Rain for me. (got both to 100% achievements)
The word addicting is probably not enough to characterize them. Fans of roguelikes, and not only, should definitely check them out.
Unepic especially, does everything great as a lighthearted fun rpg/platform with lots of questing and twists till the end, it even has a thing for puzzle fans.

Next on the list are probably :

  1. Ori and the Blind Forest
  2. Darkest Dungeon
  3. and maybe wasteland 2

Well, I've finished both Transistor and XCOM: EU in 2015. I don't really know if any of the two require any explanation of why they are so cool. I'ts just that I've finished them so late...
