Sup guys, happens that after 5 months of not having a PC I finally got one. A 7-year-old mini laptop (it's something), I installed Windows XP (it had W8 and it was laggy as hell), now I want to know what games I can play in it. I have tried:

  • Mount & Blade (runs fine)
  • Fallout 2
  • GTA SA
  • Terraria (runs at 10fps, yay!)

So what games do you suggest me? You can post your favorite old school games too

Sorry for the annoying question, here's a poll AND a potato.

1gb of ram
64mb of video

what v-card and what is more important, what processor do you have? :)

Torchlight 1 should works fine.
Heroes 3 and many more older games from GOG.com is a good though.
Maybe NBA 2k09 will run? you own it on steam. And maybe you give a try The Darkness 2, as far I rememeber it has great performance on machines with xp.

Mobile Intel 945 Express! :)
I had 965 version in my old laptop, not powerful card, not at all :)
you may always put phrase on the youtube serach box https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=intel+945&page=&utm_source=opensearch and maybe you will find something interesting there

I'm not familiar with Atom so I don't know how powerful it is but I assume that this is very weak processor. Anyway, Torchlight 1 should be ok.

Are you sure your vcard have only 64mb? I remember that 965 video card memory usage was shared with RAM (?) and there were some tweaks for it, maybe there is a way to expand usage in 945 too?

anyway, still there are many options for you! ^)^
and just look on the Humble Bundle page - maybe this is best time to play some nostalgy classics like Medal of Honor or C&C Generals? https://www.humblebundle.com/

good luck! =)

my pleasure, I hope this helped you somehow.

Thanks for the suggestions! i will see if there is a bug with my drivers or something like that because 64mb for a product that came out in 2008 is very rare

I am a bit of an RPG fan, but here are a few I've played (and enjoyed) on my old laptop:
Avernum: Escape from the pit
Divine Divinity
Project Zomboid
Tales of Maj'Eyal
Titan Quest

Command & Conquer: Generals, I bet it should run fine. It's on origin bundle right now anyways.

Just FYI if when you play Terraria switch the lighting to Retro instead of White or Color. It'll help a lot. Anyway you could try out a lot of the 'classic' games on steam, like ancient star wars games or Tropico. Also, source works very well. I'm not sure if you could play games like Counter Strike - Source but my computer is decent enough. Try the hl2 demo.
Worms Armageddon is also very fun, and also very old.

You should try the first.....3ish Elder Scrolls games - I believe they have fairly low requirements. Plus they're fun and the first two are avalible for free on elderscrolls.com

Also, Origin periodically releases 'on the house' games (Since money is an issue for you), and most of them have lower spec requirements too, and are most are older but still a lot of fun.

Also, don't forget the free Steam games -there are quiet a few gems in there. I personally recommend AdVenture Capitalist, Path Of Exile, Everlasting Summer, World Of Guns, Happy Wars, and Pinball Arcade :)

Make sure to keep an eye on various indie sites and such too. Indie Gala frequently has offers within their store/banners where you simply enter your email and they will send you a code for....whatever random indie game they decide at the time lol

I wish you luck with your hunt :)

Hrm... Well, my mom's potato computer (not quite as low end as yours though) was running FTL fairly well. Might be an option if youre into rogue-like games. The Bejeweled games (one is in the Origin humblebundle right now) are good if you like that kind of game. You MIGHT be able to run Dragon Age Origins (big MIGHT). My mom's potato can handle it, and my old ancient computer could as well, but Im not sure if yours can.

Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall is completely available for free on the official site, it's like old school Skyrim.

I've been in that situation. Here's what I played on my crappy laptop: Unepic, Dungeons of Dredmor, Emulated games (mostly NES, SNES, GBA, couldn't run N64 games though), Age of Empires 2, FTL.

Good luck!

If you like Rogue-like Rpgs you could try One Way Heroics, should run fine. Also, it's very cheap and fun.
