I have been working on SGv2+ since the beta started, but because of work related stuff, I kinda stopped pushing it forward. Now I am able to bring it back and I'd like to see if anyone in the community is experienced with Typescript/Javascript/CSS/HTML to help.

This time around, I'll be focusing on a modular design, each function will be contained in its own file and will be curated as I deem fit.

I'll set up my github account with the proper code in the weekend, all files will contain a mix of Javascript/Typescript code and are not presently suitable for end user, sorry.

The stuff I have that is updated to work with SGv2 includes:

  • Fixed navbar
  • Gridview

Things that could be part of SGv2+:

  • Scrolling Sidebar
  • Shorten comments
  • Endless Scroll
  • Hide Featured Giveaway
  • Put images in place
  • Live preview

And many more, nothing is set on stone, and those were the functions that I had working while the beta was going on. Some might be straighforward to make it work.

Last but not least, check the attachment image for Gridview + Fixed Navbar.

EDIT

Master branch is updated with the current code Github

EDIT (05/02/2015)

Functionality is coming together nicely, I have appended another screenshot to the post.

EDIT (06/02/2015)

What is currently working on SG++ Alpha is:

  • Scrolling Sidebar
  • Fixed Navbar (always on top)
  • Check if entry/winner has commented on giveaway
  • Comment and Enter (needs some tweak)
  • Endless Scroll (I still have to merge from madjoki)

EDIT (14/02/2015)

  • Beta launches

EDIT (16/02/2015)

Changelog 0.2.3 and 0.2.4

  • Fixed mixed errors;
  • Added User Hover Info, if enabled, after an user link is hovered for 1.5s a popup should appear with the info.

Known Issues:

  • User Hover Info report button doesn't work.

EDIT (27/02/2015)

Changelog 0.2.5

  • Allows users to forget a topic;
  • Fixes suspensions/report on User hover;
  • Updated Gridview to add more info/allow the hide giveaway to work;
  • Allows user to hide all read comments;
  • Other minor fixes.

EDIT (28/03/2015)

Changelog 0.3.0

  • Revamps settings;
  • Popup Giveaway added;
  • User Tagging added;
  • Some fixes;
  • You'll have to reenable your settings.

Thank you for all of your work thus far. SteamGifts Plus was a necessity on the original, and I cannot wait for the new release. Thank you again! :)

Is it "retrocompatible"? I have a txt with my filters.

No plans for filters yet, I'll take a look on that further down the line.

What a pity! The current filter system is very uncomfortable and reload the page every time a game is filtered. The filter system of SG + was very convenient and fast. I hope you have time to implement it :)

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree, but there are so many giveaways that I couldn't wait for 3rd party filters to be possibly implemented. My (new) filter list is already over 1000 entries long.

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The new filter is a tad slower for adding games, but much more effective once you've added games to it since the site doesn't need to send you hundreds upon hundreds of giveaway that you're going to hide on your end anyway.

I guess filters should be doable, but there are priorities
->other stuff gets implemented first (basic functionality)

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I miss the possibility of disable filters whenever I want, like in SG+.
But, it is true that the new filter is much more effective. Still, it is painfully slow.

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Agreed.
With SG+ (v1), I had hundreds of games on my filter, but SteamGifts would still have to send the giveaway information to me before SG+ could filter and hide it. I remember lots of lag on some occasions.

With SGV2, the giveaways are blocked on server side so the information about them never has to be sent and the site loads much faster because of it. I'll admit it would be nice if the entire giveaway page didn't have to reload each time I added a game to my filter, but that small delay is more than made up for by the speed at which the site (usually) loads.

Hey Leomoty! Thanks for working on this for all of us, I really appreciate it!
I used the SG+ V1 and really liked the features you added to the site. I think that the features you currently have working for this V2 are enough for me, but I wanted to ask if there is anything you can do to add bundle games (like "GOTY" packs, or "franchise" packs) to the wishlist. For example, I like GTA games, so I have them on my wishlist, but I can't add "Grand Theft Auto Complete Pack" to the wishlist, hence it wont appear on that filter and can't be highlighted (like wishlist was on SG+v1).

Finally. Thanks so much!

What I am really missing in the new Steamgifts is that new answers in topics get highlighted. Was that a SG Plus feature on the old site? Would you consider adding sth like it in the future?

EDIT: Do I get that correctly? It's not done yet, right?

Yes it is not done yet, We already have such feature, in SG++, though. And yes it used to be a feature of the former SG+ one.

Bug: settings aren't being saved at all for me. I probably compiled it wrong :P

If you used build.cmd shouldn't be any issues to compile it... What is your issue with settings? Care to show me what is written on localStorage?

Also, which browser you are using?

Anything i set from Account>SG++ Settings does not save. But the giveaway filters do.
I don't know how to export the data that's stored in localStorage. (Theres so much O_O)
And i am using Google Chrome with the Tampermonkey Extension.

Firefox Version 35.0.1, Greasemonkey Version 2.3. Also saving.

P.S. Happy SG anniversary ;)

Great to see SG Plus being reinvigorated along with the site. I do have one question for the new version: will there be a way to port in or otherwise edit the user tags a user made from the old version?

As for any help that might be needed, I have a little bit of experience with HTML (though I've slacked off on it due to work and laziness :P), but I don't think I would be able to help much. More so since I only have access to SG on mobile internet. But it would be fun to dig around in the source code to learn some stuff.

The source code is freely available on Github, so you're free to dig in and and see if there's anything you can contribute.

Amazing gridview. I only have a little problem, the difference between the entered giveaways color and the unentered is a bit imperceptible. I'd like the difference is more evident.
I know it's not a problem in the script , but I get the impression that SG1 icon entered giveaways was more desaturated.
Might be an idea to put a green icon to the entered giveaways or something like this http://findicons.com/files/icons/1964/colorcons_green/128/checkmark.png

Hehe, ah, that can be misleading :)

There was steamgifts (old site now sometimes called steamgiftsV1) which was updated to steamgiftsV2. Then there was a script that added features to the old steamgifts which was called steamgifts+. Which leads us to this thread about a rewritten version of this script called steamgifts++ :)

Would anyone find ability to toggle (hide/show) read posts useful?

Random example what it could look like in action

View attached image.
9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, but maybe with a way to quickly toggle the parent comments without toggling everything. This is in case more context is needed than what's visible in just the latest/unread responses.

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

toggling should be doable,
but toggling/hiding already read comments could be done more easily server-wise

9 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well of course, but then it requires another roundtrip to the server.

To be clear - it's not something I miss in today's SG, but I would use it if it was available.

9 years ago
Permalink

one ajax request wouldn't be much
or it could be marked as read, will it is loaded

but it would be cooler if it get's marked as read once your mouse is on it/if it gets into view while scrolling
