We're working on new rules right now, sit tight if you're waiting to join - we'll open a new thread shortly :)

This thread was opened to introduce the group Backlog Assassins Extraordinaire, or BLAEO for short. This is what we do:

  • Play our backlog-games [mostly focusing on SG wins first]
  • Post about our progress in dedicated threads and here on SG on our brand-new website O.O (thanks to mandrill!)
  • Possibly sometimes share giveaways (this is not a GA group, there are no ratio requirements or any expectations of GAs)
  • Play games based on monthly themes

What you need to have if you'd like to join us:

  • An SG account
  • A Steam account with unfinished games (i.e., a Steam backlog)
  • A willingness to work on your backlog

Requirement to stay in the group:
Please set up your backlog plan in your profile on our website and sort your games there, or post your progress thread in our Steam forums sometime within 3 weeks of joining - otherwise we may think you're not serious about your backlog and may ask you to leave the group ^^
Reply to this post if you'd like to join. Feel free to ask questions about the group here as well - I can't promise any answers, but I'll do my best.

We recently started excluding inactive members (no posts or organizing their profiles on the website since joining 4 weeks ago or earlier). If you feel we've made mistake excluding you, please post here with your reason(s) or contact us in the group's chat.

Hummm... I've looked at this thread for countless times. I have a serious backlog. I don't like 'interrupting a story'. So if I'm on a schedule, like I usually am, I go for something map or level based I can leave and pick up whenever. Not really conductive to finishing stuff.

How do people order their backlogs? Want? Time? Value? I'm confused.

Would be soo in, if I knew where to start. :D Someone make me a list!

Sent you an invite. :) You can have a look at the backlog threads and see for yourself what each member's approach is for some inspiration. My approach is to simply go in the order of the games I won. :P

As you probably don't have a lot of time, I would suggest checking http://howlongtobeat.com/ and starting with games that are shorter.

What about multiplayer games like Counter Strike games, Left 4 Dead and many many many others ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know anything about CS, but L4D has a singleplayer campaign, so you can consider it complete after you're done with that. For games that don't have a singleplayer campaign, you could set up a goal for yourself, like, play until a certain point, or you can skip multiplayer games altogether. It's all up to you. Let me know if you'd like to join.

I thought something about that too.... so I decided to just ignore multiplayer games (of course, I can play them, but don't try to "finish them". Actually I even did a multiplayer category in my Steam to know what games won't be in my Backlog Extermination.

Oh, I thought I could be able to be in the group to read other people's entries. While I'm actually starting to play those old forgotten titles in my backlog, I don't actually want to set goals, so if it's a requirement, then sorry! Feel free to remove me from the group.

Permalink

Setting specific goals is not the requirement, it's really just about participating in a way that shows you're there because of the group, not possible group GAs. For example, you could just sort some of your games on the website according to whether you've played and finished them or won't play them anymore etc. Then you can just follow the activity feed, comment there if you like etc.
If that's not for you, you're free to leave of course. Both the Steam forum with the backlog threads and the activity feed on the website are accessible for non-members, so you can still lurk, if you want ;)

For me personally, it provides motivation and ideas for organizing/prioritizing what to play. You can have a look at everyone's threads to see what they're doing (e. g. only wins from this site first, 100% achievements before moving on, skipping multiplayer etc.) and how well they're doing, as well as get recommendations on what to play next.
In the end, it's up to you how much it actually helps. Let me know if you'd like to join :)

My current status is

Week 3) Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Jetstream DLC, Portal 2 co-op (ps3)
Week 4) Call of Duty: Black Ops II story
Week 5) "The Division beta"
Week 6) Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Blade Wolf DLC
Week 7) Infamous Festival of Blood (PS3)
Week 8) NARUTO UNS 3 full burst (the dlc thing)

Just started DMC1, it's a lot different than I thought it would be.

Hey, I have a gigantic backlog - I think I've reached a portal to ancient aliens!

I have many illnesses, thanks to ticks, and lots of doctors, or I feel too bad to work on games a lot of the time, but when I can dedicate playtime in, that's what I've started to do. I actually got 2 finished this week that I won on sg (well... I didn't 100% one, because the achievements were too tedious and I didn't like the game a whole lot...). I guess if just finishing counts, then I'd like to join up! I'm working on Mad Max now though, and it's a bit brutal to 100% - not as bad as some I've played, like for instance, Torchlight... but still will take a long while to get the final few achievements! I'm working here and there on other stuff too, but I'm going to go back in time, and start working on some of my games I've won.

I'm focusing on ones I can use with a controller, since I don't have much space yet, and haven't gotten my new computer in the right spot - It's humongous so it will require much effort, and I'm using an even heavier TV as my monitor, which ended up waay beyond my expectations. I was reading some negative things about HDTVs as monitors, but mine is crystal clear, and it's bigger than any monitor I could buy that I'm aware of! Would like an invite! I cannot promise much, but it might motivate me to work on some when I can!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yup, that is quite the backlog you have there, invited you :)
It's up to you if you want to get 100% achievements, I count everything as completed when the story is done, but usually leave it installed in case I want to get the rest of the achievements (replaying a HOG/point&click right now for the last achievement, but it's boring once you already know the story).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thank you very much! I know what you mean about some achievements... It's almost not really worth it, and on Steam there is nothing really rewarding beyond your own feeling of accomplishment for completing something 100%... On PS3, I would go for a lot of platinum trophies (100%) and some of the achievements for games were pretty ridiculous and more of annoyance than they were worth. Games should be fun, and sometimes going for a few small achievements takes the fun out of it when it's very tough or you have to put a whole lot of time into it just for 1 or 2 things...

On the other side of the coin, I do like when games have legitimate replay value. Some of my favorites have been RPGs with the New Game+ feature! Chrono Trigger was amazing, and that was the first one I ever played with the feature... Had maybe 21 endings I think? Very cool game though - still one of my favorites ever!

Okay cool - I will check it out, and make a start. Sorry, but I have been a bit busy. Did 100% a few games though! I'll make notes.
