Hotline Miami. I don't like skill-based games, they are not for me. First time I tried HM, i ended thinking it is almost impossible to beat level 1, because of my two left hands :-) Then later, someone encouraged me to give it another try: I was sure I was going to lose another half hour. Plot twist: I played for hours, going quite far in the game (I think I didn't not totally finish it).

There is a game halfway between Hotline Miami and No Plan B, it's Police stories.

OneShot. I did not expect it to be bad, mind you, but I expected some typical basic RPGMaker game. Instead I got an awesome and unforgettable adventure.

I too don't usually buy games I am not sure I will enjoy, but a friend gifted me some games in the past. One of those was Dead Effect 2 and while it wasn't bad, it was not good either. I liked the story but grinding for better weapon damage bonuses got boring, also you have to buy the DLC to actually complete the story which was a let-down.

I never liked companies that gave this type of treatment to gamers that purchased their games. A DLC should be a side mission or additional content, but not determine the overall outcome of the main story. Unless it's given for free or let's say the developers messed up the story and wanted to rectify, I would not see why that should be a thing. An absolute no go for me and I've been quite tolerable with some games I must say.
Often times, I like to own the complete game, with DLC and all, so I don't mind investing additional money on it.

Among Us.
I was invited to play it when all the streamers and youtubers were on it. I did recognize why some people would enjoy it. However, in my teens I had played more than 5000 online mafia games, which is essentially the same concept. You have a group of players and nobody trusts anyone, yet there is only a few bad guys, but they know exactly who else is bad. Because I was burnt out from the online mafia, I thought I would hate among us. Yet, I managed to get like 20+ hours of gametime with my friends.

The Saboteur
I didn't particularly think the game would be bad, but i didn't expect much of it.
I remember playing it after finishing a GTA game (i think it was IV, but not sure).
At the time, GTA being the best in its genre, i didn't expect much from The Saboteur.
And i have been very surprised by it, I enjoyed it a lot.
It is maybe not as "perfectly" done as GTA in term of gameplay, but the game does the job.
And I also liked the Assassin's Creed side of the game for the climbing.

I bought thehunter: Call of the Wild (https://store.steampowered.com/app/518790/theHunter_Call_of_the_Wild/) simply because it was really cheap in a sale, and (being stuck indoors) I was having a little splurge on odd outdoor games. It's excellent.
I honestly never saw the appeal in a hunting simulator, and thought it was, frankly, a really lame genre, but I love the game. I'd really recommend that almost anyone gives it a go.

That's awesome man! I've got the game as well, as I got it through the Humble Bundle, but I've never really considered going for such a game either. I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed it and thought nothing of it just to be surprised.
It's awesome when games you expect less surprise you positively more.

This was really surprising how enjoyable it is, the maps are absolutely gorgeous. I've played closer to 30 hours of it and I've only hunted couple animals during that time, the rest has been just walking around the maps I have available. Truly just taking it as an "outdoor walking sim" and it's still a good time, it does help a bit with the feelings from being stuck indoors for so long.

This is an interesting question, not one you'd have to really sit around and consider that often. As gamers we're all much more familiar with the exact opposite, of thinking a game would be good but then it being bad. But to think a game would be bad and you still make the decision to play it? That's a different mentality altogether and I doubt that many people have actually done much of that, unless they're doing it to get a laugh out of how bad something is. I personally try to avoid games that seem bad to me because being stuck playing something truly awful is a terrible use of my time, but I do have one such game to answer the question with. Granted it is sort of borderline on the question because it was only a game I thought would be bad because of my experience with the first one.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is that game for me. For the longest time I didn't have any interest in The Witcher series, but after hearing for a time of hearing how good Wild Hunt is, I eventually begun to entertain the thought of trying the games out for myself. It wasn't a priority by any means, but then the whole trilogy was on a very good sale so I decided to take the plunge. Naturally had to start playing from the beginning, thinking it was mandatory in order to keep track of the overall plot. I absolutely hated the first game, the gameplay was beyond clunky and tedious, I legitimately struggled to finish it. With this experience behind me, I was less than enthusiastic about moving on to 'Assassins of Kings', thinking it would be the same level of awful. I was shocked to see the second game had improved in every sense and I was actually really into the story. I'd actually argue that the main plot of Assassins of Kings is far more interesting than the main plot of Wild Hunt.

I like things to be outside of the box and believe or not, by challenging people to list their games, I discover new gems or games that considered mediocre they turned out to be loved by a small community and I myself and others reading the comments can draw some help and make decisions out of it. A win-win for everybody I should say. I've been doing this for quite some time now since I've started my journey on Steamgifts and since gamers are different from a player to another, I draw a lot of inspiration knowing what people like.
I also like to ask tougher questions others don't mind asking. 😅 Can be weird and hard sometimes to think about it, but I enjoy it.

Mind you, I'm still at this point considering to play it too. So I perfectly understand how you feel. I am hoping one day I'll pick the games up as I'm interested in trying them. When? I don't know, it could be this month, or the months after. 🤷🏻♂️

Same, the very reason why I've not went for the rest. I am obsessed at this point with playing games older than myself to simply understand the plot and the characters. I've had a poor experience with another game where I jumped on the most recent, that's God of War and I felt disconnected with the main character because I could not associate his struggles and motives all together. Although the game was good, I wanted to know how the first 3 God of Wars were before playing, yet I've not done it.
Going back to what you said, I'm not enjoying Witcher 1 no matter how much I know the 2nd and 3rd may be. I feel like a drag going through the game, but I will overcome that drag, because I'm a little fixed on going over every single quest and small details so I can fully absorb the game.
What I didn't like out of Witcher 2, as I've tried the first minutes is that it feels like it's ported off the console. And that kinda overall concluded my experience with the 2 games. Yet again, I feel I'm being critical about it and I should definitely shut up and try it. Some games take time for you to actually enjoy them for what they really are.

Well keep 'em coming! Challenging questions are fun, they can even help you figure out something interesting about yourself when you are answering them. You can get a whole new level of appreciation for something you hadn't even considered before.
I wanted to know how the first 3 God of Wars were before playing, yet I've not done it.
Funny you should mention God of War, because my poor experience with The Witcher is exactly why I've avoided God of War. I became interested in the 2018 game but figured I'd have to play the previous games (well at least the I-III) and I've just not had the motivation to "brace myself" to commit to the series if the first game turns out to be as tedious as The Witcher. I currently have no reason to believe it would be but you know what they say about being burned once! :P

Same here, but I have to tell ya, I did not feel good about it even after it was all done. It was just one of those moments that made me sigh over all that wasted time but not feel any sense of accomplishment. I hope you'll find the more rewarding feeling when you've done it all.
I would also encourage you to give 2 more of a chance, it really does improve, but playing that is probably quite a long way away for you. But eventually it should provide you with more rewarding feeling in completion than the first one.

The Ace Attorney series (played on the Switch, but they're available on Steam). It was an impulse buy because I only had a few games on the Switch at the time and I wanted more choices, I didn't even know it was a visual novel. I avoided visual novels like the plague, but this game made me more open to them. It surprised me because I actually enjoyed the gameplay, but the most surprising was the sound and dialogue design. That's not something I typically pay too much attention to. I mean I can notice a good soundtrack, but it's usually not essential to my enjoyment of the game. Not here. It was essential to the storytelling.
The way the dialogue was paced I could swear the game was voice acted, although it has no voice acting other than the occasional "Objection!". The text does not appear at a steady pace. It's paced like real speech. It's hard to explain. some phrases are slower, some are faster, some words feel more emphasized, there are brief pauses after some words...etc. I could read the speaker's tone of voice, it was surreal.
As for the soundtrack, it's not about being a good soundtrack (although some tracks are really good), It's how it's used. Although the tracks repeat, there is not one of them that feels misplaced. I could read the mood of the moment through the music. The moments when the music stops and you're treated to silence were also placed masterfully, like holding your breath.

Oh it's a visual novel? I didn't know either. I thought it was a more strategy discussion game. 😅

The "Objection!" part I'm the only thing familiar with as I know little about the franchise, although I've recently wishlisted the franchise for the sake that one day I will play them.
I do like that somewhat it allows you to be able to keep up to a regular, yet well put together discussion, since you're part of the attorney. Or so I think. 😅

Really important for a game that focuses a lot on text I guess. Maybe that's what makes the game so special and appreciated by many.

I've heard that about the game. It's just not polished as a game. The closest I've played that left me like that was Blood Knights. It's really unpolished as a game, but somewhat it was fun on some areas and I just wanted to see how bad the dialogues can get. Sometimes you gotta enjoy a good parody. 🤣
Although I must say, the game didn't try to be, and took itself quite serious, just poor voice-acting.

red dead 2.
Ok hear me out, i tried red dead on ps3 when it released like 12 years ago, and i didnt like it.
So i never bought red dead 2, but after it had been out on pc for a year or two i decided to randomly give it a go, since why not.
And it ended up being one of the best games i have ever played, bringing me to tears multiple times, ending was so good!
And the Arthur death part was just so well done, and so heart breaking

I've never played the Red Dead Series, I've told myself to play the first one and then the 2nd, because simply I would not dare to go back to an older game for the simple downgrade level.
My wife loves RDR 2 and unexpectedly, spent over 400-500 hours in the Multi-Player. She never played the story, although I encouraged her to do it. She did recently check it and said: "Why the Multiplayer doesn't feel as polished and detailed as the SinglePlayer?"
I regret checking that spoiler now, but it's expected for games from Rockstar anyway.

yeah i tried the multiplayer, and it really doesnt feel like the same quality as the story for sure.
i myself spent easy 100+ hours just running around in single player doing random stuff in the open world, its one of the most "alive" open world games i have played

I remember when RDR 1 came out. I was very interested in playing it as that time period in history is one I find very interesting and there really aren't many games for that period. I never got around to playing it even though I had (still have) a PS3.
When RDR 2 came to PC and it appeared to be great, and not just a poor port I wanted to play it, but also was hesitant because I wanted to play RDR 1 first. I, like you, also didn't want to go back to an older game for the simple downgrade in everything.
My interest in playing it won out and I decided to give it a go. Without a doubt the best game I've ever played! Brought me to tears a few times too. The whole game is just a masterpiece! I don't think you will find an open world like it that you feel like the world is so alive and it doesn't only revolve around you. After finishing RDR 2 I decided just to watch the story of RDR 1 on YouTube. I found one that had the cutscenes etc so I could pretty much get the whole story. I don't feel like I missed out on anything by not playing RDR 1 first. So, I would say - You should play RDR 2.
I'm not really interested in the multi-player stuff either. I've only played the story and have played through it twice. I have over 400 hours in the game.

It was not as bad as I've hoped for me. I expected to not enjoy and finish it at all after reading reviews.

theHunter: Call of the Wild seen being mentioned. You're the 2nd who remarked that. That's awesome. Do you think it's worth having the rest of the DLC's to enjoy the game?
What is UFS? I can't find the abbreviation of this game anywhere. 🤣 Oh! It''s Ultimate Fishing Simulator I see now. I thought it was a sports game for a second seeing it's being mentioned. Well... fishing is a sport, but heck. Never mind! 🤣😅

You pose an interesting question. As was already pointed out, I doubt many people would play a game they expect to be awful. They would spend their time on something else. So as gamers I would expect us more often to play those games we expect to be great and they let us down. But I can see how a question like this would lead you gems you hadn't considered or maybe wouldn't consider otherwise.
One game for me that surpassed expectations and hooked me for a time would be Motorsport Manager. I had bought it on a big discount because I thought it seemed interesting and the discount made me try it out. I later bought all the DLC available. I currently have over 150 hours in the game and actually haven't even really played with the DLC yet. It's one that I still would enjoy spending some time and picking it back up again. I am not a huge racing fan and have some knowledge of Nascar but nothing really beyond that. I really enjoyed the race strategy along with the development and financial aspects of it.
I had purchased The Long Dark early on when it was still in Early Access. It is another game that surpassed expectations. I thought the concept seemed interesting and they have since done a great job with it. It's one that I would like to pick back up and play some more. They are still finishing the story mode but have it mostly done. Definitely one of the Early Access successes.
Another game I found I enjoyed more than anticipated was Prison Architect. An interesting management game that I would like to spend more time playing.
I decided to list 3 different games as maybe one or more don't appeal at all to you.
Death Stranding is a game I have been somewhat interested in but at the same time fear that I might find it boring as a walking simulator is not something that sounds real interesting. I probably will eventually give it a go but I liked your summary above and review left on Steam.

True. They can be optional, but I've discovered some interesting titles that allowed me to spend more time and check them out. Having a more personal response to my question is a lot more valuable for me than reading random reviews from people. I don't know a lot of people on this website, but I feel I can trust their genuine comment than a review written on the game. I can bring it down to a conversational level and find it's reason easier. Plus is hell'a fun to try to think outside of the box we're used to.
I get to pick my games based on positive reviews and recommendations really, and visuals are a great influence on my decision, but sometimes I overlook games that visually would be not my pick, like indie games and just discover that they are beyond my expectation of them. I could never discover a lot of the games mentioned here because my Steam doesn't recommend me such games as it kinda picked up what I'm interested in.

I personally have the same knowledge of racing games. Most that I've played was the Need for Speed ones. Didn't touch any of the racing games since NFS The Run. I personally never picked up racing games that were strictly professional. NFS Shift was never in my favorite list of games for the simple fact that I preferred street racing or street sports in general.
It's nice to hear that a game like that can surprise you and you're hooked countless hours in it.

This game is on my wishlist for that particular reason. Didn't read a single review about it. Just picked it because it looks interesting and reviews are quite positive as a general look.

I've played this one quite a bit. I've done it for a few Streams. It was fun really, but I didn't play it after the streams, which is a steam. I need to revisit it as I got all the DLC's for it.

Why thank you! 🤗

I can 100% recommend this game. It fell to become one of my most enjoyable games of last year and all times. I felt the same thing. I don't really buy games that are walking simulators, but this is something that if you're opened about will hook you and keep you in the story for hours. I had no issue pursuing the achievements to 100% for this game and that says something.
If I like a game and want to get it to 100%, that says a lot about the game. It means that I have no issue spending more time in the game to get all the bits and pieces. Some games can feel great and I honestly enjoy them, but revisiting it again for the achievements feel more like a chore.

Paradise Killer
Detective Story with Anime Characters on Vaporwave Island. It’s not my type of game at all, maybe except style. So I didn't expect anything good from that game - generally all those games with microgenre aesthetics are silly time killers or just trash in worst cases.
When started, I found solid style and trilling story with some kind of lovecraftian cosmic horror.
I've totally enjoyed - it's maybe the best game I've played in the past year.

Had to think for a while, but it strike me today: Pyre.
Though to be fair, I expected it to be good, but the start was rough. I really didn't like it.
It still feels a bit like a game that can't decide if it wants to be a visual novel or a sports game, and it gives annoyingly little background info/lore for my taste (and could do a bit more with choices as well, the world is super interesting). But it's a game where I see a good screenshot, a theme reminds me of it, and I take a few seconds to re-think some elements of it. It started out rough, but the themes - both story and musical - really stuck with me. Also, I still fucking hate the bug that locks the mouse when you take off with your wagon lol.
I don't want to get ridiculous or overly romantic, but it's the kind of the game that one remembers with their heart. Not something to make monuments of, but a little darling to be treasured.

The Witcher is a game I have never have expected to reach so much popularity at it's time, when it released. I think the 2nd one set the tone a lot better for the franchise. I gotta play them. I could not get over the graphics of the 1st and the controls. Witcher 2 is poorly ported from consoles, but I'm willing to overcome that issue.

I see, I know at my first playthrough I got to the swamps, right after the first village. Then my second attempt left me to the village, where I had more in depth conversations with villagers, but some game came by the time I played it and dropped it once more after my 2nd attempt. Kinda sad, but oh well... third is the luckiest? 🤣

This is the police 2. The 1st one had an interesting corruption setting but gameplay was fastly super repetitive. When i've read players complaining that the 2nd one turned militant ideologically, i was afraid that the writing would be caricatural and so ignored the game for a long time. Well i was wrong, the game plot is as exciting as a very good novel, and gameplay is better with a nice tactical aspect.
After reading your list, i agree about AC Unity, Ubisoft fixed it well, and it's a fun game even if i far prefered AC3.
And maybe i'll give a chance in the future at least to Greedfall. I don't feel inspired by Death stranding ambiance, but maybe Greedfall.

Idk, I liked the engine used a lot more than previous installments. I felt the update they were using. I could have not say the same if I'd play the game at launch. It was a mess, like most AAA games released nowadays. I was lucky to not encounter many throughout my experience back in 2020.
And maybe i'll give a chance in the future at least to Greedfall.
If you liked AC3 for it's Colonial era, you may enjoy that about Greedfall. The combat is the worst part about the game, but after overcoming it's issues, I enjoyed it.

This may surprise you, but I enjoyed this game more than a lot of other games I've played. It's something many misjudge to just find out how fun and awesome the game really is. Out of all my listings, I'd 100% recommend Death Stranding with my whole heart. ❤

Not really a detective game no, it's not like Sherlock Holmes. It's more a turn-based tactical game.

AC Unity, i played it too 1 year after release, all bugs already had been fixed after 1 year. But i prefer AC3 because the personal character story follows more closely the historical events. Greedfall i already hesitated to buy it, maybe one day... But you are a keen observer 😛, yes the historical atmosphere that seems close to that of AC3 is attractive.

Well yes, I'd assume that if you're American, it would make a lot of sense to appreciate that period for it's historical purposes. I favor a lot the ancient history, so I can say that the atmosphere from the most recent 3 games intrigue me the most.
If I were to choose: Ancient Egipt falls first, then 2nd would be Norse and last Greek. I do like the Greek ancient culture and religion of the most as I've studied the most. I know a little of the other two and probably that's why I like the on top of Odyssey due to more unfamiliarity.

That's true, a game by Hideo Kojima. I've heard praises before from many people, but I thought they are only bias towards it. Once I've played Death Stranding, I finally understood why. Hideo has an style of going out of the ordinary way in story-telling. I've not played Metal Gear, and I want to. I never owned a PS in my youth, so that was mainly the reason.
Now I do and want to play them so I get to experience the franchise. The game may not be for everybody and idk why it hooked me. Maybe because it was odd in it's story that I wanted to know more and the gameplay was fun. It was rewarding me all the way to the end. A game that does that and you feel that you're progressing all the way can be so addictive. I liked the way the game was phased on that level.

Nah i'm French, it's just that i like a lot the games that try to make us relive the history. In AC3, i appreciated that the hero could follow but not change the real history.

You're probably in gaming heaven with Origins and Odyssey then. But i wish ubisoft would integrate less fight and more historical aspect in these games, some mini-games to show us how the egyptians or greeks weaved, made pottery, cultivated the fields, etc.
I'm most interested by roman republic and chinese three kingdoms actually, but open to the beautiful reconstitutions.

There was a lot of praise about Metal Gear before and Kojima has a strong fanbase. I understand that it's not your case however and that you discovered a game that you liked a lot. Maybe i'll try Death Stranding in the future but not in hurry i really don't like horror/fantastic.

Nah i'm French, it's just that i like a lot the games that try to make us relive the history. In AC3, i appreciated that the hero could follow but not change the real history.
Part of the old ones were like that. In most recent ones, you are the key to a lot of influences and changes.
You're probably in gaming heaven with Origins and Odyssey then.
I'm most interested by roman republic and chinese three kingdoms actually, but open to the beautiful reconstitutions.
I've had a lot of fun in Origin, more than I did on Odyssey. I'm excited about Valhalla, as both Norse and Egyptian have a more interesting setting then Greece does. It's beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't as impressed by it than I was about Egypt. Since now I live in England, going for Valhalla is going to be awesome, because you get to revisit old England and I'm in love with that.
But i wish ubisoft would integrate less fight and more historical aspect in these games, some mini-games to show us how the egyptians or greeks weaved, made pottery, cultivated the fields, etc.
Actually they do, there's a DLC that is for free from what I can remember that allows you to go as an Tourist in those areas and explains all the history, from cultural, religion to military. It's super cool!
You can learn a heck of a lot about these things. I don't know how historically accurate, but I'd assume they really want keep it genuine at that level.

I can't say it's really horror, but it does have elements that will keep you tense. Think of it like a dark-souls encounter, where the boss is 10x larger than you and you need to defeat it.
I don't wanna spoil anything, but keep it in mind if ever you want to try it that this game will surprise you in ways you'd never have thought. I've been really skeptical about this game that I'd like and ended up loving it.

Fallout 4
I thought it's gonna be terrible fallout... and it is indeed terrible fallout.
Yet - I played for more than 250 hours - just gathering resources and building settlements... I didn't even finish the game- but it was fun anyway.
Rambo The Video Game
It's not the worst game ever as some say. It's just low quality - but still - good rail shooter. Quite a lot of bad reviews are just whining about high difficulty.
Bad Rats
Absolute classic. So bad that it's good xD Absolutely disgusting, filthy, low quality and unpolished and I really liked it.

Fallout is not a bad series, even if it's flawed. So many times we spend time analyze it's imperfections to just find out that we've spend more than we think on the game. I think what really made the whole Bethesda franchises get so much hate was the popularity it got. They are not excellent games, but they are hella fun in the sandbox department.

Oh yeah, I've heard that about the game. Not all movie remakes are poor and some games based on movies can be quite decent.

Don't know if I could play such a game. 🤣

Don't come for me but I thought I wouldn't like some games due to the pixel graphics. Namely Stardew Valley, which is now one of my favorites, and Undertale, which has an awesome story but scary fanbase, lol. Until I played those games, I typically didn't like pixel or pixel stylized graphics unless it's an older game because I thought it was a little too simplified. But I guess some games are really hyped for a reason and it was wrong of me to judge a game by how many pixels it has. There are also a lot of other really great and beautiful games that rely on pixel art so those two games really opened up my heart and mind to modern pixel games.
It's not how many pixels a game has, but how game designers use them! :D

I am one of the type of people that don't play many pixel games. I do appreciate some of them, but a lot of the time I don't pick a game for that particular reason. I need to probably see it recommended over and over for me to pick it up.
I am about to play Aegis Defenders that I won on the giveaway a while back and I fancy a lot the art-style.
Sometimes you gotta go past the visuals and pick a game for it's gameplay or story.

Do you still revisit some of the old titles? I sure do from my early 2000's as that's when I started playing games more seriously and being aware of them. I did start somewhere in the 1996, but that wasn't really something I did actively every day. It really depended how much we were allowed to play.

I go through F1&F2 at least once every year (sometimes with some mods). I also sometimes play some oldies when I'm in a nostalgic mood. Moreover I have RPi 4 loaded with 200+ GB of old console games (up to PSX/N64) and like to grab a pad and chill a bit on the couch from time to time. It's also good with friends, to play some Crash Team Racing, Mario Kart 64, beat 'em ups, etc. My gaming hobby started a few years earlier than yours and it was the original Game Boy. I spent far more time on the PC though over all those years. Oh, I also play some oldies sometimes on the go, on a lappy, Odroid Go Advance, cellphone, etc.

I don't really revisit old games unless I plan to play the whole series from the very first, if it's available on Steam of course. It's going to be a change once the Steam Deck becomes available for me. I never had a 3DS, but my wife had one and loved her games. I prefer computer/console gaming overall.
I do need to see how Fallout 1 & 2 is like. Any good mods I should keep in mind?

Fallout: Nevada, Fallout: Resurrection, Fallout: Yesterday (work in progress - fan-made Van Buren aka real Fallout 3), Fallout: Sonora (english translation in progress), Fallout et tu, Fallout 2 Restoration Project (with updates from burn @NoMutantsAllowed)...there are more in the works, there are also some good mods for Fallout Tactics like Awaken and some crazy things like MegaMod for F2. Just look here sometimes:

AS some people mentioned I'm not buing games that I dislike. But sometimes game just much better than you expected it to be. And sometimes friend recommend you something from the genre you are not really interested in. For me its Primordia, expected it to be just another point and click, but it became my favorite point and click. Solid puzzles and absolutely charming characters.

Never said it needs a photorealistc graphic, but visuals are probably the first key thing that sells a game. It's like food, you'd not eat it if it would look poorly in a restaurant.
But again, visuals aren't everything, but it sure does help with popularity and sales.

I've not played a Point & Click in ages. Please don't get me wrong, by no means I will dislike a game if the visuals don't click with me. It was just my honest thought. All in all, I will try the games, because I'm curious about them. I appreciate that!

I generally dont play anything that is considered bad so I dont really have any game that could be categorized as "bad".
However, there were titles that surprised me. The one that comes to my mind right now is:
Spec Ops: The Line
Reviews were full of how mediocre it is, only with litlle hints here and there that there is more to the game than this aspect. If i remember correctly, I've tried the demo back in the day around release, I've kind of enjoyed the gameplay loop but did not feel an urge to get the full game. Years later I got it for free. Once, on a boring day I decided to give it a go. Upon completion, I felt totally dumbfounded. This game is not as mainstream as it was back when it released, but the revelation hit me: it was mediocre for a reason! It was intentionally made in a way that reflected how shooters of that time generally worked! It was talking about the genre and medium itself! It comes together beautifully with the narrative and the theme, its genius!

By far one of my most enjoyable war stories. The game lacked the thrill of the shooters nowadays, but it did well on the story department. It was tragic, mind-blowing and pretty deep.

I bought it in bundle only cause i like dungeon crawlers and im collecting slovak and czech games aswel. Videos from game dont look promising + really i dislike steampunk styllisation in most games, but this just fits into my collection.
Beggining of game really wasnt impressive, but after first boring floor i noticed it has really well designed and challenging turnbased combats, the best i know in this genre. Plus lots of cool puzzles and dark athmosphere. Very addictive little game from small team fully comparable with classics like Legend of Grimrock or Stonekeep,
Theres also sequel, but its much more hard puzzles focused game with insanely hidden secrets and much less combats than in Vaporum.
I prefere style of original Vaporum. Really cool game.

I've never played a game like that before. It reminds me somehow of The Elder Scrolls: Arena, but I doubt they are similar by nature. I like turn-base tactics, so I never played such a thing, but I feel I may as well like it. I'm pretty sure others may find it interesting too.
Oh, after checking my wishlist, I noticed that I have Legend of Grimrock and Legend of Grimrock 2 which is similar in style, just more fantasy based, which I personally am a fan of.

Any games you've had an awful feeling that it's not going to be that great and when you've played it it changed your whole perspective about it? These game might have technical flaws or is overall having bugs and issues, yet you personally enjoyed it enough to recommend it to others or not.
By writing the name here, you can also add lines if you recommend it, what's your thoughts on it and what things should others pay attention before purchasing it.
I'll list a few:
Have fun! 😄
