Some companies just feature more recent models on their sites. That model looks to have been released on October 29th, 2019.

I just found this https://www.asus.com/supportonly/RTX2060-O6G-SI/HelpDesk_Knowledge/ so I don't know if it was a 1660 that was pretending to be a 2060 or, as you say, an older/refurbished model. the more I find, the more confused I am.
Edit: https://www.asus.com.cn/Graphics-Cards/GTX1660-O6G-SI/
seems like it is actually a Chinese variant. but still I don't want to buy one thing an get another.

Yeah it doesn't look to be fake by the design. Might be used or refurbished though.

I definitely understand your theory why you migh think its a fake. Just taking a look at some pictures and videos of the card I can see the following diferences.
The most intriguing for me would the information where the pins are.
Your card: https://i.imgur.com/5legGWK.png
Comparision: https://i.imgur.com/qBAwLRU.png

I just don't buy all of the differences being legit, I would have thought that if there was a seperate edition we would have more evidence of it existing in terms of images and video. I did check amazon.cn and they don't appear to have that card listed for sale (probably not the best way to check but it was worth a try)
The most conclusive way to see would probably be to find a teardown of a GTX 1660 and compare the PCB in the teardown with the one in your images - I found a teardown for GTX 1660 Super but not for the standard version as of yet.

They're absolutely physically different, but they both are in the same box and are pupporting to be the same model.

Right, the box is what he should have gotten but he received a different 1660 model as shown above by m3rc.

I haven't used this tool myself but it should tell you if your graphics card is fake.

You don't want a "chinese variant" either way if possible, this usually means higher chances of lax/slight defects from QC check or inferior quality which is why they're also usually slightly cheaper locally. Things for "International" market tend to pass a higher quality standard. It'd be a different story if they were more honest about the version and price.
I've bought "cheap variants" on purpose before like usb sticks, mp3 players, headphones, laptop batteries but I've never been... scammed like that before. That definitely sounds illegal btw, idk.

Dude, how could you not plug that in to see what it actually is and what would happen? These are the kind of videos that get linus dozens of millions of views on youtube, and now you're gonna have to live your entire life without knowing (and so will we).

I need to change the PSU to be able to power it and that could have been used as an excuse to not refund me anything as I bought that from him too. I still I found it tho https://www.asus.com.cn/Graphics-Cards/GTX1660-O6G-SI/

Mind if I ask how much you payed (or if it was a lower than standard price for the card)? I mean, according to your story, I'd think you at least saved some money if the seller was going through all those hoops to get this specific (and very obscure) card. Although I guess getting this card would be no different than getting a used one on chinese sites.

Other than the backplate it looks similar to this: https://www.asus.com.cn/store/product-2806.html
The lack of backplate and serial number is suspect, though. Probably made at the Asus factory like the others, but not officially an asus card. I don't know how they do their manufacturing, but if it's third party they might keep the rejects that don't meet specs and sell them on the black market, or they might be straight up stolen.

I just managed to find it on the china website so it might actually be legit https://www.asus.com.cn/Graphics-Cards/GTX1660-O6G-SI/
Still I wasn't going to keep if I was sold a TUF.

First of all there's no giveaway nor actual help needed. I'm just bored and want your opinions or experiences with fake graphic cards.
So like a month ago I decided to update mi graphic card but we are in quarantine so I couldn't go to a store to get one and as amazon orders take 3 months to arrive here at best (that is if they don't get "lost" in the mail) I had the brilliant idea to order one from a local store. I ordered a GTX 1660 TUF with some other components and a couple of hours later a delivery guy was at my door with my stuff.
Before setting everything else I wanted to take a peek at the graphic card and what I found inside the box was definitely not a TUF. As the box wasn't sealed, I thought they may have taken a few of them off to show or something and put the wrong one in my box or something. But then I noticed there was nothing in the box, like, no manual, no adapters, no drivers disc, nothing.
Anyway, I wanted to know what had they sent me and search for all ASUS versions of the GTX 1660 and things just got worse: none of them looked like the one I had. At this point I contacted the guy from the store and he gave me his excuse: first, he said it was the "Chinese variant" of that graphic card and that they had been getting the graphic cards without boxes to avoid paying customs and re-printing the boxes with the international design here to actually sell them and that was why my card didn't look like the one in the box. But then again, it didn't look like any legit card in the market.
In the end he agreed to give me a refund and as I was pissed I returned the rest of the components I bought from him too. By the time I finally managed to find that exact same model it was on the worst possible place: Alibaba.
I didn't got to actually try the card on my computer to get a software check if it was legit but I'm pretty convinced it wasn't and as here sellers tend to use the same distributors I'm not ordering another until I can go to a store and actually see what they are trying to sell me. Also, it wasn't a "too good to be true" situation, they were selling it at the price of a legit card so I wasn't taking any risks by keeping it.
So, what do you think? Was it fake or an actual Chinese variant? Have you had a similar experience with a fake graphic card?
EDIT: I managed to find it on an actual ASUS website https://www.asus.com.cn/Graphics-Cards/GTX1660-O6G-SI/
I still think getting a refund was the right move. If you tell me you're sending me a TUF, you better send me a TUF.
