There's very little difference in performance between 7 and 8. If you don't mind the new UI, which looks to be improved a fair bit with 8.1 IMO, I'd say go for 8. It's the same price as 7 and will probably get more updates and stuff in the future.

There are tons of compatibility issues with indy software. Most mainstream software have been updated.
If you are rocking Sam Broadcaster 4.9, you would have to buy the NEW SAM for it to work as well. Other than Sam though, it's basically some indy software that isn't compatible. I use a lot of this software though, which is why I downgraded back to 7 recently.

If some developers don't update their software I'd say it's about time to look for alternatives.

I had windows 7 for a long time and I've had windows 8 for about... 6 months or so. I quite like windows 8. People are scared of the metro interface and it did take some getting used to but it's not that bad. It boots up a lot quicker than Windows 7 which is nice. Windows 8 is newer and will probably be supported longer. There's a lot of other small things that are better than Windows 7 as well. Windows Blue or Windows 8.1 should help with a lot with some of the problems it has.
I recommend Windows 8 for any new build. If you already have windows 7 I don't think you really need to upgrade, it's not that much better, but I think if you're making a new computer you should go with Windows 8.

I bought a new Windows 8 PC, a cheap one, not a gaming PC, and I liked the style of Windows 8, so I was thinking of buying them for my gaming PC. I haven't tested out any games on the other computer, and I don't think I will... So, I wonder, do you think it's better for a gaming PC (RAM-wise, or anything else) to have Windows 7 or 8? I'm asking that because Vista was a very bad edition for a gaming PC with 4GB ram (thankfully I got my 7 soon), so I don't want this to happen with 8 as well... From what I've seen, Windows 8 isn't heavy, but since I am too bored to get into learning all the details, I wonder if someone has already got an answer about it... I was hoping I could test the Windows 8 on my PC, but the key is locked in the BIOS of the other computer (good job Gate...).
