I'm looking for games with strong emotional story. So far I've played:

  • Spec Ops: The Line I cried a bit
  • The Vanishing of Ethan Carter cried a lot
  • To The Moon cried like a little bitch
  • Narcissu 1st & 2nd couldn't finish it ;_;

So any suggestions?
And please tell us which games made you cry.

Not just good. It is awesome. Full of feelings. Although I never cry over games or movies, etc., I felt something while playing it. It's also very educational, especially if you gather the collectibles during the game. My review about this game was:

I do not think that I have to do a detailed review about how amazing the game is. It's obvious. The storyline, the puzzles, the missions, the atmosphere, the music, the collectibles, the facts, the diaries, the characters - everything inside this game is excellent! But I just want to say about how I felt after playing this game. I felt educated, because I learned so many things about the war. I felt alive, because the atmosphere was so great that it felt like I was inside the game. I felt sad, because of the cruelty of the war. I really felt like I got aboard the feeling train, I went a trip with it, then I disembarked from it, and then it ran over me twice. I always enjoy games with a deep storyline, but no game ever has touched my feelings before. Why is it so hard for developers to make games like this? Why games nowadays are only mindless fun and they lack even a simple storyline? Why don't you take an example from this game? Thank you, Ubisoft, for making this game.

But I loved learning about history, even though I don't like history. xD I wanted to collect all the collectibles, but I didn't manage to do it. xD

Regarding emotional great stories undertale comes to my mind first. I can't recommend that game enough. It didn't make me cry, but it made me feel a lot. Id recommend you to go in completely blind.

Binding of Isaac is also deep and emotional when you think about it.

Transistor - Whole story is strange and hard to understand but OH MY GOD that ending.
Gemini Rue and The Swapper both games after beating them will give you strong emotional hit. Not sad but more like Spec Ops The Line. You won't forget about them for long.
Dust an Elysian tale. Maybe it's not sad. There isn't anything that will make you cry but whole storyline will warm your heart. It's worth to mention that end battle have so much Star Wars in it :)
Beyond Good and Evil - Another game that will warm you heart.

If we can include consoles and emulators then
The Last of Us.
Final Fantasy Crisis Core. Especially when you didn't play FF 7
Shadow of the Colossus and Ico
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
Shadow Hearts 2 but you will have to beat first Shadow Heart 1 :|
Kingdom Hearts series. Especially Story about Axel. Everytime when I'm thinking how he ended in KH2 my heart is crying.

+1 for The Last of Us
I'm not the slightest bit ashamed to say I cried like a little baby. Biggest attachment I've ever felt for a character and I survived the great Tifa slaying of '97, so that's really saying something.

Tifa? Don't you mean Aeris?
I played first time FF7 on PSP and that scene for me was just "meh". More sadden me ending of Crisis Core that I played earlier than 7.

lol yeah, not sure how I managed that mix up.
If you played it on PSP then you're probably much younger than me and had already experienced plenty of emotional gaming moments before her death. There weren't many to rival the shock of losing her back then.

"and had already experienced plenty of emotional gaming moments before her death"
Well even after all this years we still don't have too much emotional gaming moments so I'm not sure about that.

"There weren't many to rival the shock of losing her back then."
Thats a good point but it doesn't change that the ending of Crisis Core was incredible big shock for me :o

BTW. Somehow I find it sad when I look at Dirge of Cerberus. It's a nice game and it have interesting main heroe but whole storyline it's very bad if we compare it to 7 or CC.

The entire Mass Effect series with all the story DLC if you talk to all the characters and learn their stories.

I made it through all 3 games with all possible survivors but watching the spoiler clips on youtube showed how heartbreakingly bad it went for some people and with the limited number of saves they had to live with it or start over.

The 3 books by the original author are worth reading too - they're set between the games. The 4th book was EA shovelware - they had a different author port a book from another universe after the original guy quit the industry when EA split out critical parts of the main story as DLC.

Yeah, they are awesome! <3 Loved the books as well! (Except that 4th one, but we don't mention that one, ever. :D )
Went through all 3 games with paragon/renegade/mixed alignments, and it has many different favors and tiny details which change, depending how You play. Best game series I played. ^^

Although I have a bit of a tendency to cry a lot on games, I'm just gonna keep it to the few titles, that have managed to make a really special impact on me.

Metal Gear Solid

  • Snake Eater Joy ;____;
  • (surprisingly) Phantom Pain Mission 43 is propably the darkest and most disturbing thing Kojima's ever created
  • Guns of The Patriots This one was just one big emotional hell for me. Only game I've cried on during a boss fight.

Undertale

Well OK, to be fair, I didn't really cry. I just caught something in my eye. That something was TEARS. LOTS OF THEM.

Secret of Raeticon was... something. it drew me in, in a good way, but then the ending was like the devs giving the player a giant juvenile middle finger. so pissed.
