Games you nearly completed, but maybe a quest was too tough or the last boss beat you? I can start with a few:

Final Fantasy VII - never finished the last boss after trying a few times
Medievil 2 - also did not finish the last boss, too difficult
Limbo - some gravity related puzzle near the end was too difficult for me.

Gears of War - Atrocious gameplay mechanics. I just couldn't get into it...esp coming straight out of Half life 2, Doom and Quake IV.
I had never played a cover shooter and it felt forced and lazy...unlike others e.g Mass Effect

Aquaria - just don't have the patience for that stupid last boss, a pity because otherwise i enjoyed the game.
Gemcraft - a single map takes way too long to complete and a small mistake can possibly ruin everything, just got tired and pissed off and uninstalled.

I never finished Aquaria either. I really want to replay it at some point though.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn; final boss. I wasn't really enjoying the game when I was playing it but stuck it due to sunk cost fallacy nonsense. Came to a head when at the final boss since he was getting me down in a few hits. Didn't feel like grinding so I just dropped it.

Rain World. At this point I've listened more to the soundtrack than I've played the game... It's a really good and amazing game, but also very challenging and you need to know where you're going. When I was unable to play it for a few weeks, I just felt lost, and that feeling hasn't improved since then. I really want to start it over some day though.

Bayonetta.
I got to the very last boss but with not enough health regen (and not enough skill, I guess).
I tried several times, but couldn't beat it.

I had to watch the ending on Youtube :(

I'm not the best at that kind of game, so that's probably me.
Although, watching a few Let's play confirmed that some hard passages are hard for a lot of people ^^

Overall, I liked the game. Good humor, too.
Definitely worth playing, but it won't always be a walk in the park.

Fire Emblem: Awakening. I don't really remember why... I guess I just have a JRPG phobia? Even getting right up to the end (so close to it) I still feel daunted by how much of a burden they are. I think I did the same thing with a couple Pokemon games too...

There are definitely some others (especially bad ones :O) but there's the most well-known I can think of.

Godfather. The game says i have completed the main story 100% but in order to be the don of NYC i have to destroy the hostiles compounds and the remaining business. The main problem is that the compounds are way too hard, i have died a million times so i decided to stop for now. If i end up feeling like trying again i will for sure go for it as its so good game.

Legend of Dragoon. And I truly meant to come back to it,but I lent it to a girl who turned out to be a psychopath and needless to say I forgot to ask for it back before parting ways. :/ It's been years, but I still think about it sometimes.

Believe it or not... Faerie Solitaire.
Still trying to finish it, , a very casual game, because jeeze... so much grind to get all the eggs, hatch them all, and level them all up. In a solitaire game.
Jeeze.

Final Fantasy VIII - despite it still being my favorite FF I've never managed to beat the final boss there.
TES IV: Oblivion - just got tired of closing all those Oblivion gates and dropped the game for good.
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 2 - the final boss again.
Undertale - not the final boss but one of the near-final I think; the game was boring anyway so I didn't really felt like wasting my time on it anymore.
Winter Voices - dropped at the start of the final chapter. Still intend to finish it someday but... it's been like, 5 years already.

There's probably more but those are the ones I can think of right now.

Oblivion is actually the only TES game I've 100%-ed. Morrowind I almost got there and Skyrim... well I got bored haha. That and probably, "accidentally" glitched out a follower and got too annoyed to play further.

  • Halo: I've played it most of the way through several times, but have never ended up finishing it.
  • Spyro 1: I was playing it on and off for about a year before my Playstation died.
  • Portal 2: Like Halo, I've started it a few times but never actually finished it. Unlike the first, it's just a little too long for my usual gaming sessions and I'm not usually in the mood for it when I have more time to game.
  • Orcs Must Die: Every time I pick this up I end up spending an hour or so trying to beat a level with all skulls and burning myself out on it.
  • Retrovirus: Co-opped my way through most of this but we never got back together to finish it.
  • Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter: As with Retrovirus - co-opped most of it but didn't have time to finish it, and the other person ended up soloing the rest without me. :(

Oh i Love Halo, even if i just played Halo 1 and 2. On Xbox. Good that also Halo 1 and 2 exists on PC too. And also soon there is whole Halo Collection on Steam. ;-)

Spyro, back then just had a Demo on good old PS 1, but later got it and played all the Spyro Games. But now can be lucky, you can play Spyro Games on Steam, can finish it and it looks also Awesome in Remastered, all 3 parts. Like the Crash Bandicoot Games. Its so good that finally PS 1 Games comes to Steam and then Remastered. As long they dont screw it. :D

GTA V - was 70% through the game.. upgraded my PC and wiped my save file. never bothered after that
Mad Max - well, wasn't even close to finish. Just couldn't bring myself to keep playing.
Remember Me.. well over half way i think and put it down in the middle of a fight I couldn't finish, left it for weeks, couldn't remember what the buttons do, keep dying.
Wasteland 2 - Loved it, went on holidays for 5 months while relocating interstate. It's now been 18 months since I played and I can't remember anything about it. Definately going to replay this one.

I have a bad habit of not finishing games even if the only thing left to do is beat the last boss. Either I start all over again or let it sit in my library for months/years. I don't know if its because I subconsciously do not want the adventure to end or something else.

Hand of Fate - Tried the last boss a few times with no success, gave up on the game.
Domina - Played the game twice, never had enough Gladiators to fight for my life at the end. I might try again some day, it's a fun game.

To me happens a lot in very long games (rpgs like FF or Bethesda games).
Usually invest a couple hundred hours, then get a little burned of the same gameplay, so i swicht to a different short game. After beating that and returning to the game i was originally playing i think "what was i doing, to where im supposed to go" and then i start over en repeat the cycle.

More specific:
FF games: usually when i get the airship sometimes get overwhelmed by all the new locations and then switch game xD.
Rouguelike or games with long spaced savespot: nowadays i dont have too much free time to play, so when a game required minimun a hour or more beetween saves i dont play it anymore.

Cold Fear, last boss, he just keep one shotting me.
ZombiU, game crashed and last save was few missions back.
Silent Hill 2, battle with 2 pyramidheads, still cant beat them.
Fallout 3, NV, 4, Skyrim, Oblivion - Too much exploring and collecting. Eventually i get very bored and just stop playing.

Silent Hill 2 - perhaps my favorite game. Beat all the endings. The last boss is more difficult than 2 pyramid head in my opinion.

Cold Fear was a great game, and realistic for its time. I remember there was a trick to the last boss, kinda like in Silent Hill 2...
Lol I was so stingy with ammo in Silent Hill 2. Killed nearly everything with the stick only to spend just one rifle shot on the final boss...the irony.

I never got back to Oblivion as well. I took it slow because I was worried I would have nothing good to play afterwards...and then Skyrim came out

I am alive - I stopped playing it for while and never finished it, it was so boring for me.
Mirror's Edge - I stuck at some point and I was too lazy to look up for a walkthrough.
The Bridge - Game became too difficult and I didn't wanted to use walkthrough all the time.
How to Survive 2 - I was playing with my friends but they stopped playing it so I stopped too.
A Story About My Uncle - Became boring for me.

I have also Mirrors Edge and sometimes really confusing, but i didnt read any Walktrough or checked Youtube. I got it alone, even if failed many times, sometimes. ;-)

Awesome Game by the way, makes fun to run, jump, climb. If you know the way of course or else, can be sometimes frustrating. ^^

Yeah, it depends on the Game and as how long im confused what to do. Then sometimes i check fast. ;-)

I just checked then Walktroughs cause of the collecting the, i forgot what it is. Some i got so without the Walktrough. But even with the Walktrough i was confused where it is. Still need to collect some, but not that many anymore if im right. ^^
