Games you nearly completed, but maybe a quest was too tough or the last boss beat you? I can start with a few:

Final Fantasy VII - never finished the last boss after trying a few times
Medievil 2 - also did not finish the last boss, too difficult
Limbo - some gravity related puzzle near the end was too difficult for me.

Parasite Eve. I was at the end boss, but that thing was sooooo frigging hard, after 20 tries I just gave up and watched the ending on Youtube.

I had that Game on the good old PS1 and always tried to play it, but i was always to scared and then i stopped. :D

I was to young for it i guess, but was also with Resident Evil, but many years later i finished Resident Evil 1,2,3 and some others.

Maybe someday i will try Parasite Eve again and hope finally to get near the Final Boss. ^^

Dragon Quest VIII - I'm almost at the final dungeon, but I have no will to continue.
Final Fantasy XIII - I finished it now, but back in 2010 I gave up right at the final boss and started over a few months later.
Devil May Cry (the first one) - It just didn't do much for me. Game isn't bad, but I played it after DMC3, and in wasn't exactly what I expect out of DMC game.
Bayonetta - my disc broke :^(
Bloodstained Ritual of the Night - Played for 10 hours straight, got burnt out, haven't touched it again since release. Though I'm planing on starting over.
Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance - Parallel castles was a mistake... It's just too much of "WHERE THE HELL SHOULD I GO NOW???". A shame because I really like it otherwise.

Resident Evil 5. Fuck the final boss, it's just not fun with an AI partner that does absolutely nothing.

Yea, true. But for me the boss where you use the flamethrower was harder with the AI. For the final boss it helps if you can grind for gems and get better weapons.

Old version of Skyrim. Did a "100%" run but quit just before i only had the last DLC left.
Kingdom come deliverance: Not on purpose but.. Classic wow came.
Beyond divinity: Was going through all the old ones before original sins 2 but once i reached the second last chapter i quit playing and never went back. Uninstalled it a while ago since i probably never will get around due to it being rather bad.
Hard West: This was due to achievement hunting. Went through one of the last stories in hardcore or w/e. Died super late due to some super unlucky events in a mission. I should pick it up again since i liked it a lot but i have problems jumping back into games hallfway done.
Shadow of the tomb raider: Got 1 tomb left as a side mission but since i am playing on the hardest you have to redo if you die. The thing is the grappling hock does not allways like to work in the game and especially in that tomb and you need to use it like 5 times near the end. I can't be arsed.

Cossacks. And I watched my father complete it. He always seemed so slow and yet he beat the game while I couldn't.
Not the game itself, but in GTA III I collected 99 hidden packages and just couldn't find the last one.

On SEGA
Fairly sure I didn't manage to beat The Lost Vikings.
Couldn't beat Asterix and the Great Rescue (or maybe it was another Asterix game; it had some of the most prominent classical music).
Gunstar Heroes.
Comix Zone.

  • Antichamber: I always end up in the same place, I always do the same things, I always get the same items. It is an "anti-me" game.

  • You Have to Win the Game: Free game I guess I lack the patience of drawing the map. But the definitive reason is that it is very beautiful, it is adorable and your jumps have to be millimeter...

Finished it once back in the day when I pirated it, then recently got to the 'defend the ventillation system while we dryfuck you' mission, after a row of escort and defend missions, then stopped. I know it is doable, but they literally ran out of ideas when a shapeshifter superpowered antihero can't be himself and has to protect weak NPCs/points because they ran out of ideas/time.

Darksiders 2, because these fucks disconnected the server preventing that stupid trade achievement to be done. And they didn't bother to remove that broken chievo either.
Toxic Bunny HD too, couple broken achievements that were never fixed, fuck these devs too.

Kingdom Heats 1.5 remix. Im right near the end in the caves right before Ansem. Apparently they changed the difficulty for the remixes and I cant be bothered going back and grinding to craft all the slightly better gear and do all the coliseum fights. I might get to it eventually or ill just watch the ending and move on to the next game

Warcraft III. Far as I remember, I never played the last level. The one before that took me so much time that I grew tired of the game.

Book I read almost to the end and never finished: Joseph Heller's God Knows.

Not what you asked for, but game I ALMOST gave up on was Batman: Arkham Origins. The fight with Deathstroke is so incredibly unbalanced that it took me forever to beat him. I'm just too tenacious to give up on a good game, even when something like this comes up :p

Game I DID give up on is LIMBO. Not because it was too hard, just because I didn't enjoy it.

Let's see.

Game crashes:
Final Fantasy VII: I had the PC version back in the day, and for whatever reason, the game would crash at the cutscene after the final Jenova battle. I never got back there on any other version.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: I had a save file near the end of the game at roughly 95% completion, but the game randomly froze and the disc circle scratched itself into unplayability. I have it on Steam, but never got around to it.

Too hard:
Archon Classic: There's one level that I can't beat on Insane difficulty. The AI used to be bugged such that it was actually impossible, but after some conversations with one of the devs (<3 Nate) it got patched and now it's just absurdly hard. If I ever clear it, I have 100%.

Intentionally dropped:
La Mulana 2: All I need to do for 100% in this game is re-beat it on hard mode without using subweapons on the bosses. But I refuse to replay the game until the major bugs are fixed, and over a year after launch, they keep finding new ways to break the game in patches. Currently the music is playing incorrectly throughout the entire game.
Surgeon Simulator: I had 100%, but they added a bunch of new surgeries and changed the game engine. The new game engine is not nearly as wacky and fun (Read: you can't remove an entire ribcage in one shot with a fire extinguisher anymore), so I'm not particularly interested in getting my 100% back.

Stopped caring, might go back someday:
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion: I wanted to close all the Oblivion gates before I beat the game, but I got distracted by DLC releases and eventually just stopped when Knights of the Nine wasn't compatible with my save.
Sword of Mana: Got to the point of no return, went off to grind, and never finished grinding.
I Can't Believe It's Not Gambling: I have everything else in the game, but I'm about 86,000 boxes away from the 100,000 box achievement and I haven't felt like setting up an autoclicker on it and letting it run for a week.

In progress:
Pokemon Ultra Moon: I haven't done the postgame because I've been shiny hunting and restarting the game once I get certain one of a kind shinies. I swear I'm going to actually do the postgame this time, because I also want to shiny hunt one Pokemon that requires the postgame (Type: Null). But first I have to get the Articuno that I'm saved in front of.

The original XenoGears. Completed that 2D maze right before the final boss fight and then they're like "Have a 3D maze, too!" and I was like "How about go fuck yourself instead" and quit playing.

Final Fantasy 9. Played thru the first 3 discs on PS and just never popped the 4th one in. Liked the game, just never finished it.

Terraria. Save file corrupted after about 40 hours and I have tried to play it a few times since and I just can't get into it like I was. That's the one that hurts me the worst.

Edit: I lied. Halo 2: That last boss kept killing me and the last time I died, during that couple seconds of gameplay while you crumple to the floor, one of the NPCs grenaded that SOB and killed him. I technically never beat it because the game beat itself. I was so goddamn angry about that I have never played a Halo game since. THAT is the one that actually hurt the worst.

I like this topic, when you posted I did not reply to it. Then I was at 95%(19/20) achievement for Back to Bed I did not read the info as its heavily rely on controller which I did not have when I started the game. I was playing with mouse.

Yesterday, I finally, gave it another shot to complete the Nightmare level. I still cant get through a level with the controller as I continuously failed over and over again each time cursing into the screen. Hahaha Then I suddenly thought of using other controls. I found out the game also works with WASD and Space to pick up items. This happens to be the most effective way as its the most responsive and movement is more on point. Finally, managed to 100% and got out of that "Almost" completed game!

Cheers and Happy Weekend! ^__^
