I'm actually going to say Call of Duty 4 in the Blackout mode.
People actually wish each other GLHF as the round starts... It's weird. Not to mention that you actually get legit answers to questions as well. CoD is supposed to be this toxic mess of a game... and I'm not gonna lie, in regular multiplayer, it kind of is. The Blackout mode in particular though seems to give people enough breathing room to calm the toxicity and the public chat staying on screen for the entirety of the play session seems to be a deterrent for douchebaggery.
The worst game I've ever played in terms of toxic behavior has to be Rocket League though. For every good match, there's 4-5 where you get someone wishing cancer on you or your family... or simply rage quitting. I don't know if it's because it's a "sports" game or what - but it really draws out the worst in people.

Definitely Dark Souls....
So much sugar and spice in that game.
But really, I think it was seriously Counter-Strike. Back in the 1.2 & 1.3 days. Community wasn't as large, people weren't as connected, things weren't as instant (33.6 baud dialup ftw).

Back in the old days it was Soldier of Fortune 2 I was in a very friendly and mature community,
From games that are still available to play it is Guns of Icarus Online. Very friendly and helpful guys there.

Some years ago I used to play Boggle-style word games on Yahoo games. Live competing against other people. Live chat alongside. It was not toxic. It was a lot of fun. Very supportive chatty people.
Probably because online Boggle on Yahoo attracts middle-aged women, instead of 12 year-old boys.

Don't Starve Together is pretty awesome in that aspect. I only played it for a little bit, but I had no idea what to do and a lot of people joined my server and stayed to help once I told them I was a noob. Too bad the game is really not very interesting to me, since I don't know what to and just end up dying over and over (and I can't be bothered to watch hour long youtube tutorials), but even so, sometimes I think of going back to it solely because of my positive experience with other people there.

DST is very prone to trolling tho. Probably the only online game that trolls really annoy me and force me to quit the game.

I've played many, but far and away the most socialized experience was Star Wars Galaxies. Very tight knit communities would evolve around local cantinas, and cooperative expeditions were often planned from there. If you wanted to get the best armor you had to seek out an actual player who crafted it, likewise weapons, meds, droids etc. Everyone had at least one profession and some had several, which created a lot of inter dependency. On the small rebel moon that I was based on, I think I knew everyone on it and had partied with all of them at one time or another. Come to think of it, it was a unique experience as MMOs go and very immersive.

I've played a whole bunch that have had their fair share of toxic communities. Although at best the only one I can really suggest right now is Wonderland online. They still have a pretty high player base that don't constantly call each other stupid so it's a nice game away from a game knowing you don't have to hide the chat because of a couple of people saying rude things. Like we all wanna play without having to ignore others.

Orake. Hell of grinding and outdated graphics, but the community is a living dream

Eve Online. Yes, the one where everyone shoots at you all the time (not really). If a person is adult enough, it won't be such a big deal loosing in pvp. Also Eve pirates are the nicest and chill people out there.
Just the case of a pretty high learning curve which filters out most teenagers and casuals.😈

Runescape was pretty chill like.. close to a decade ago when I played it - there are a lot of skills, most of them is trained in a PVE fashion, and there are only some cases when there is active competition between people and resource nodes. I distinctly remember people skilling at banks, fishing spots and while mining/woodcutting and just talking about stuff... sometimes I really want to go back to that game, EoC or not, some of the questlines were simply amazing. (Though many skills mean lots of grinding * many skill)

Nobody's going to believe me, but my World of Warcraft experience was almost entirely positive.

League of Legends, I always had fun playing that game. It's a bit toxic but it got better last couple of years. In the early days when people trolled, I trolled them back and actually had fun doing it as well.

When you get a match full of positivity it's the best thing ever. Good vibes are infectious, though bad vibes tend to be too. I'm curious to know of any online games that have a very upbeat and positive playerbase. I'd imagine that some lesser known niche games with a mostly grown adult audience would come bundled with the nicest crowd of people.
For me I think the best vibes I've gotten from an online community was in Elder Scrolls Online, not that there wasn't people being stupid on chat in crowded areas but the overwhelming majority of interactions I had with other people were really pleasant.
