This idea is awesome, though I wouldn't participate for a couple of barriers (0 money to buy challenge game, limited hardware). It still would be great. Perhaps you could force a stream in certain interesting challenges.
I'd love to see someone who only plays FPS genre playing Dwarf Fortress for example :D

I've got Secret of the Magic Crystals as part of the "Indie Kids Pack", the other games in it were pretty decent. Decided to try it just for lulz, I knew it was a game for little girls, but man, even knowing this I was disappointed. It didn't even have any achievements back then.
As for other boring games - try Eufloria. Got it with some of the bundles too, had some hopes for it, was disappointed. Extremely boring.

I love Eufloria and could easily play it all day.

Sounds like it could be fun, though I'm not sure if I'm strong enough to do it. Bad Rats...yuck :s

Not a bad idea per se.
Try to make people play Gangwars for 50 hours, you'll get an increase in psychatric internment in different parts of the world and they will hate you :p

Nice idea in principle. The main problem for me however, would be my general lack of time these days. To do something like 48 hours in a game I would have to use almost all of my free time in a week, which I can't see myself doing.
I'd be happier for something like arbitrary skill challenges, like completing a specific Super Meat Boy level in < X seconds (where X is insanely difficult for the level, but somehow assessed as being possible). Something that I wouldn't necessarily have to spend all my time doing, but still represents some kind of challenge. Maybe even inventing interesting meta-games within games (adding constraints like time or no weapons to existing challenges in a game or creating your own challenges within the game world). This at least can be difficult without being thoroughly unenjoyable or completely impractical.
Also, due to a lack of disposable income, I wouldn't feel prepared to give a game if I failed and I'd likely be iffy about getting the challenge game if I didn't have it as well.
So yeah, this probably isn't for me.

Maybe. This is just an interest thread for now.
Currently, I have two bets going on. If my friend can play 48 hours of Secret of the Magic Crystals in a week, I get him Kingdoms of Amalur. If he fails, he gets me Legend of Grimrock. Now, I've just accepted another challenge for me to play 48 hours of Secret in exchange for a $15 of my choice (Grimrock goes to the challenger if I fail).
How many of you would be interested in challenges such as this? Note that it may not always be Secret that is the game to play. I may decide to test you on another awful game that I might find. Who purchases the challenge game (if not already owned) would be decided based on what the reward is.
Read the damn thread please before you bring up the stupid idling argument yet again. It's been dealt with repeatedly.
