Finally fresh eyes on the series, perhaps?
I don't see any problem with actual sequels. seeing as how rich the extended universe is, and considering how many sequels Lucas wanted but didn't make. I'm looking forward to this.
Star Wars as a franchise have, and have always had, great potential, and Disney are great filmmakers, as long as they know which audience they want to please.

Incoming Mikey fighting alongside Darth Maul against Jedi Donald?

Can it possibly be worse then Lucas himself has been doing to the IP the past decade?

The Disney ownership doesn't change anything; Avengers was pretty neat and their ownership didn't do anything bad to Pixar either. The new movie? Well, since I could tolerate the new trilogy, they have to fuck up really bad now to make me hate them. Just please, this time go FORWARD in time, no backwards like the Old Republic and Tales of the Jedi stuff. Because even they couldn't do it as good after a while...

Which kind of proves my point; many people think their ownership is kind of bad and it's the end of the world as we know it and whatnot. My point is that if there's something that's worth shitting our pants over, it's definitely not this. Disney will not ruin the franchise, Lucas himself has a higher chance to do it.

Well, they can bring back Mark Hamill as an aging Luke. Hell, most of the actors are still there. Shortly after it would be not-just-kind-of stupid, yes, but the possibilities after that open up nicely :)

I think you need to look at this as bond films. sometimes they will be awful and sometimes they will be awesome. the last three were mediocre and I put this nice.so hopefully they go far away from the story arcs from now and go to the beginning. like who were the first jedi or sith.
SO I keep an open mind, a bit sceptical but open

I wonder if we'll see stupid bullshit like they try and pull with the classic Disney movies, by putting Star Wars "back into the vault" and "limited time release" and other horseshit methods to drive sales.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, Disney is the prime driver behind the DMCA and other copyright laws that have essentially made the length of copyright infinite, thus depriving the public of its right of fair use, derivative work, etc.

lol, they couldn't do much worse than george lucas. He did a re-release of the entire available series whenever there was a new medium to put it on.
(DVD collector versions, Video tape collector sets, the new bullshit Blueray version, "Remastered" versions etc etc)

The Thrawn trilogy is an excellent followup to the story and what pretty much all fans would love to see for the next movie trilogy.

bno it did not end. george lucas always had 7 8 9 but due to low appeal to 1c 2 3 it fell thru back when he created 3 4 5 he had the idea for 1 2 3, 7 8 9.

As an upside, they can't possibly screw things any more than Lucas already did.
