Thanks to the latest Windows 10 anniversary update many games are now BROKEN!!!!!!

ManuelGuzman said
"The new Windows 10 Anniversary Update had a specification change that required our display driver to output a different string from the previous drivers in the past. This has affected some games which were unfortunately developed with the assumption that the value would never change. We are working with Microsoft to find a solution. "

"These games work fine with Windwos 10 x64 (1607, build 14393.187) + nVidia drivers 368.69"

The games in question here are Fallout 3, new Vegas and Skyrim, the quotes are from the GeForce forums. Also, it seems newer AMD/ATI graphics card drives are in the same boat.

Nope any game that uses WDDM 2.0 or lower will be broken since it updated to WDDM 2.1.

I also saw someone list Remastered Monkey Island as crashing.

You better just get rid of win 10 . It is basicly one big spyware.

Bethesda engine was always a big pile of shit, forced fps locks to not fuck up physics on more powerful hardware, and other things I really have no willing neither time to list. Skyrim still doesn't work on 120+ HZ monitors.

Is there anything else that got broken, apart from this so-called "developer"?

Any game that uses WDDM 2.0 drivers won't work with drives that default to WDDM 2.1.

From looking at the games in my Library, I would guess games that are 4 or 5 years old are most likely going to be broken if they use WDDM2.0(Windows Display Driver Model)or lower . Fall out 4 works with no problems :)

Its a graphics card driver issue, its recommended to down grade your drivers to make the games work.

Latelly has been a lot people complaining about it, but i have Windows 10 and a rx 480 8gb, and can play Fallout 3 and New vegas without problems (for fallout 3 i had to do the steps listed in steam discusion, but now the hours played dont add up). One "problem" i did encounter is that somethimes after reloading the game works for some seconds and then crashes, but after i started to always save in a new save i had no problems.

But do you have the version of Windows that OP is talking about? That's the question.

In my case, I do have it, but unfortunately I play neither of those games, so I've seen no problems with my gaming so far.

GeForce drivers 368.69 and lower work as they uses the version 2.0 WDDM files, drivers above that default to the newer 2.1.

it's fashionable to complain about Win 10.
In my experience, it's great. I've got more backward compatibility than I did with Win 7, which is my number 1 concern. most of the rest of what the OS does or does not do is beyond me
Yes, Edge sucks, but so did IE. And I don't use Cortana in any way shape or form or any of the rest of Microsoft's shovelware
So really, no complaints here

i was very skeptical about windows 10, but after a month or so of using it i really like it, yet still is room for improvement. I agree that Edge sucks.

I upgraded to Win 10 when it first came out, and then downgraded back to 8 a few days later. A few months later I tried again, but actually spent significant time customizing and optimizing it, and now it's great. although, some time back, during the last major update, I found I had to go through the whole customization/optimization thing again. Luckily this last update didn't demolish all my settings
If you use tiles at all, I strongly recommend PinMore, which lets you custom-create tiles, including creating tiles for Steam games don't know why 3rd party software is required to customize tiles... or why the default tiles are so ugly. Can't Microsoft afford a designer?

Thank you for the recomendation!, it was actually one of the things i was thinking with "room for improvement"

depending on what you want to do, you may need to also get Snowy Dune Launcher.
Pro-tip: you can also use them to create tiles for websites.

I would guess it depends on if your drivers the newest. GeForce drivers 368.69 and lower work as they uses the version 2.0 WDDM files above that default to the newer 2.1 drivers

Maybe thats it. I install all updates but the last one that was marked as optional (because it was focused for battlefield 1 open beta that worked awesome at the time i saw no need).

New drivers default to WDDM 2.1 if detected. nVidia drivers 368.69 and lower will use WDDM. 2.0
