Love this game, and they have a regular schedule for releasing free updates

Very fun and addicting game, just started playing it a few weeks ago.

Sadly the graphics are crap and the game isn't ever in 3D.

Both Borderlands and Minecraft were low-budget games. They were both surprisingly successful and the former got a sequel that stayed true to the art style of the original (with a much, much higher budget), but their respective styles were not purely out of choice. They didn't have that much to work with and did the best with what they had.

You misunderstand. BL2 was simply made much more efficiently, thereby "stretching" its budget dollars much farther (3 or 4 times) than the original.

Arma 2 with the DayZ mod is fun. I heard that the standalone version is also coming out sometime soon.

Infestation: Survivor Stories (Also known as WarZ :D)

How adorable, they changed the name to throw people off. (that, and there is a film called The War Z)
Comment has been collapsed.
They changed it because of a lawsuit and letting their copyright expire, actually.
Now Orion: Dino Horde; they changed their name to throw people off. The developer even said that the new name invalidates all of their metacritic scores to try and wipe the slate clean.

Technically speaking, it's a catastrophic game.
Plus, it had great potential, but they really didn't work on it deeper.
Doesn't worth the $15 imho. If you really want it, wait for offers (or a giveaway :p).

I didn't think it was, which I why I posted definitions, to help you learn. If I thought it was your mother tongue, I would have just told you which one was correct, and expected you to know better. I didn't mean to sound like an asshole. I'm actually a middle school teacher, so I'm used to correcting grammar of people who don't have a mastery of the English language.

Your usage of comma splicing is unnecessary and creates a run-on sentence. Do not use pronouns unless they are linked to a noun. Your second clause is also missing a verb. A correct sentence would be: "I didn't think English was your mother tongue, which is I why I posted definitions to help you learn." (Changes in bold)

This sentence is missing an article. Your sentence should read: "I'm actually a middle school teacher, so I'm used to correcting the grammar of people who don't have a mastery of the English language." (Changes in bold)

Yeah, I hold myself to a lower standard when responding to internet comments. As such, I use commas to show natural pauses in my speech.
English being linked to the pronoun was extremely obvious in context. Since this is a discussion board, I knew my comment would be taken into the context of the comment it was replying to.
And yeah, I made a couple of typing errors, as I was carrying on a vocal conversation at the same time. That was me leaving out the "is" and the "the."
As did you, "which is I why I." So, looks like you also can't be correct when correcting someone.
And on top of all that, I wasn't even correcting someone's grammar.

Now, now, boys... You don't want me to put on my English Teacher hat....

Yeah, Don't Starve is extremely complete if you look about survival games on Steam. Great indie game, but a bit repetitive and annoying after several hours. And it's only in english so if it's not your mother tongue, be careful.
Recently, State of Decay was released (but not on Steam). It's quite different though, and less complete about the survival thing.
Anyway, you have a few other games like that, more or less "survival", but the only one I know on Steam is Don't Starve.

+1 I have forgotten TWD !
Less complete survival gameplay than Don't Starve though.

That was not it's only problem. It could be the worst port in history and that would be the least of its problems.

+1 Stalker games are absolutely amazing. But there is no 'building' component.

Yeah, once in a while you have these sales, it's hard to survive then.
(dunno, maybe you could go in direction of rogue-like games, Dungeons of Dredmor or Faster Than Light even, nothing else comes to my mind other than games already listed, in these two it's really easy to screw up and have to start over again but I wouldn't say they are survival games per se. Or Amnesia: The Dark Descent but that shit is too scarry for me to play)

Maybe FTl: Faster Than Light? based on your description it sounds like a survival game.
It is a roguelike game with strategic elements. I really love it and recommend it.

Based on his description it sounds so: "What I classify as a Survival game is The ability to scavenge areas and maybe build but always facing a risk of dying and having to restart."
Dont you think?

As some people have said above, look into rogue-like games.

Dead Space is commonly referred to as a Survival Horror game. It is different from just being a shooter in that you collect resources and ammunition is in a limited supply, in addition to things jumping out at you and making you shit yourself. Figuratively.

Dead Space 1 + 2
Cry Of Fear (Free)
Cold Fear
The Walking Dead
Penumbra series
Amnesia - Dark Descent
Nikopol
Alan Wake + American Nightmare
Jericho
F.E.A.R. series
System Shock
And if F.E.A.R. is considered survival DOOM 3 will also do the trick.
Also, The Suffering Prison Is Hell. Not on steam but as a free download on Softpedia.

Not on steam, but Robinson's Requiem & Deus sounds like almost exactly what you are looking for.
Also, Miasmata is apparently somewhat along the line of these, but I've not played it, so I can't comment on it.

I've only played the first, and that was years ago, so I'm not sure exactly how well it has aged, but it did seem like one of those games where the main problem for any new players won't be the age of the game, but rather how unforgiving it is. It is one of those games that you need to stick with for a while before you really start to enjoy it. But then again, that's kinda the nature of any good survival game, it needs to be unforgiving, willing to kill you for your mistake, and offer enough depth & complexity to warrant multiple replays, and with complexity comes a steep learning curve.

+1, not on Steam though but recently went free. Unlike nearly all the other roguelikes mentioned in this thread, this one is a survival game loosely set in iron age Finland. you can cut down trees and carve the wood to make firewood, tools, rafts temporary shelters though to permanent homes, catch fish, stalk and hunt or trap animals, tan their hides to make leather etc. You can also find a village and trade for things you need, or recruit some companions and lead a raid against evil slavers, spend all summer building up you own private base, then realise you haven't stockpiled enough food to make it through the winter, whatever. This is an awesome game its basically a sandbox but there are some modes that you can pick at the start to give yourself certain roles to fill, and its still actively developed after years. Be warned though, if you only like AAA games this is not the one for you, its heavily indie (I think single, part time developer) and the graphics and UI reflect that, the UI is not DF bad but it takes some getting used to and you may need a while before you remember which skills are located under which option etc. There is a tutorial mode though which is highly recommended as it does a good job of showing you most of the stuff you can do and gives you some bonus free stuff as you work through it and at the end you can just continue on from there (AFAIR you can pick a new goal if you complete one)
TL:DR its a good game with indie graphics and UI

I'm looking for these and can't find any that look worth while.
What I classify as a Survival game is The ability to scavenge areas and maybe build but always facing a risk of dying and having to restart.
Games so far: FTL, fallout, Dayz, Kenshi, Warz, Don't starve, Terraria, Stalker games, Forest,
