Description

Happy Holidays! Do people still remember this game? Timespinner is a metroidvania with a mechanic that lets you freeze time, turning obstacles and enemies into traversable parts of the environment you can use to reach new areas. It was noted for leaning into nostalgia with its '90's-era art and playstyle.

Thank yous are always welcome, but if you'd like to answer a question instead: what's one of your favourite gifts you've given or received?

I love to give friends that aren't into board games some small board/card game that I really enjoy. To let people know there is more than Monopoly or Catan.

That sounds like an excellent gift, honestly. I didn't realize how much fun boardgames could be until I went to a boardgame café with friends and we picked up a random few. The competitive ones can be fun, but I actually like the lighthearted ones best. (There was some game we played called Red Flag where you made a perfect date for someone in the circle, then added a negative trait to your competitor's "date" to make them less attractive. Surprisingly fun if you can exploit how well you know each other.

What are some boardgames you've gifted people, or that you'd recommend?

Funny, never heard of Red Flag, while I work in a board game store/cafe.

My personal favortie board game is "Aeon's End", which is a cooperative fantasy dungeon deckbuilder. As a party game I love "Just One" because you can play it with everybody that can write and read as the rules are so easy they can be explained in 1 to 2 minutes.

I have been giving away "Silver & Gold" a lot, but that one seems a bit harder to get nowadays. If it is okey the game is a bit more expensive, then " Cascadia" is such a nice gift, easy rules and good looking. Or the game "Canvas" even more beautiful looking, a little bit more rules but you can also hang the box on your wall as it is beauriful.

So about 6 years ago my friend gifted me Starbound and now i have over 300 hours in it and over 200 of those where played just us having fun. The game is fun and all but the best part was that we spent time together.

That sounds so great! I had a friend gift that to me back in high school, but never got around to it...maybe I should see if any current friends want to try it together. :)

Well it's a game that is worth the play time. It has some wonderful mods that can completely overhall the game. The only draw back is that it's and older game that was designed to run on just a few high powered processers so you run into issues with lag if you have too many mods. last modpack that i didn't have issues was over 800 mods with only 50 of those being of any size and 3 of them being huge.

During my university years, I got a good quality pan that was lifesaving on the long run, I think that's one of the best gifts I got :)

Seriously, never underestimate the power of high-quality kitchenware. I got a beautiful ceramic-and-cast iron Le Creuset pan I still use to this day.

One of my favorite gifts has to be this TF2 Spycrab plushie I got from my girlfriend. It's so cool-looking, and she went through a lot of effort to find one - they're quite rare nowadays. Absolutely love that thng, now just gotta be careful it doesnt try to stab me in the back... or sap some of my electronics xD

That's a pretty tough one.

I think it might be a tie between the NES game Shadowgate and the book Farmer Giles of Ham, which I got around the same time, and those two together got me into reading. Shadowgate was what managed to teach me how to read (when you only get 2 games per year and you get one that requires reading, you have to learn how to read!), and Farmer Giles of Ham was what got me into reading books. Few gifts have had such a big impact on my life as those two.

Huh, may have to check those both out! Would you still recommend them today?

Shadowgate is a very 80's adventure game in its design, and it's pretty mean overall. When I was a kid I had the time and patience to work through the moon logic of the game, but I'm not so sure if I would these days. You can actually get the NES version, as well as two of its sibling games, Deja Vu and Uninvited, on steam these days: https://store.steampowered.com/app/664850/8bit_Adventure_Anthology_Volume_I/
as well as the original home computer version: https://store.steampowered.com/app/343800/Shadowgate_MacVenture_Series/

Though I can't wholeheartedly recommend either (though I would recommend them over something like say King's Quest)

As for the book, that one is better. It's a children's book written by J.R.R. Tolkien, and it's pretty well regarded for a children's book. I doubt an adult would get much out of it, but it would be something fun to read to a child

There was a time when the whole family was into watching wrestling, as weird and goofy as it sounds. I've gifted my Mom a ticket to a live show and we went the all of us together, it was awesome.
I also gifted my parents tickets to a Joe Cocker concert when they were really into him. Was a total tear jerker at the Christmas tree. Felt all warm and fuzzy :)

I do remember Timespinner and have been wanting to try it myself for a while now, even though it seems to be quite short.

The most favourite gift I've given was for my sister. I found a book of lyrics for her favourite band (I think it had chord sheets too but she doesn't play an instrument), and she was over the moon about it haha.
My favourite received gift was Animal Crossing for the Switch, my partner got me that. It was perfect to distract myself as the pandemic really kicked in and the first lockdown started.

A book. But no one gifted me a book for several years :/ Even if people know that I love to read, they completely forget about it on holidays. Probably because they don't read themselves. 😬
As a gift from me — a dryer machine for my mom. She is quite an old-schooler (I think her washing machine is about 20 years old. still working without a single repair, though!). She didn't agree to a new washing machine but agreed to a dryer. She thanked me all year long for it xD It's just something she didn't realize she needed :D

When I was a kid my parents gifted me for Christmas a brand new Nintendo 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, I was thrilled, not only it was the first 3D game I ever played, but the game lore and world were something I never experienced before. Oh and it was the game that pushed me to learn English, I remember playing alongside a Spanish - English dictionary.
