Warm-up [I'm a huge fan of post-apocalypse books sooo]:
Fun fact: I’ve had a dreams about nuclear explosions before - which were cooler than it seems - but after a few pages of "On the Beach" I’ve also had a dream about radiation sickness. Which isn’t cool at all :p

the Akira manga turns post apocalyptic, its totally different than the movie after the first tome.

+1 for the "Akira", both manga series and movie :)

I've only had one post apocalyptic dream. I was looking for my girlfriend in a town that had been destroyed. There were Mad Max style gangs everywhere which made it hard to look for her and it was gut wrenching to think that they might have found her first.
I enjoy the genre but a lot of what's produced feels stale and unoriginal which tends to turn me off from the genre as a whole.

True. It's frustrating how hard is to find "original" post-apo books nowadays, not to mention movies or games.

I had a really frightening apocaliptic dream once. So in my dream i woke up because heard an explosion. Looked out my window and saw a plane explode in the sky and then slowly fall in the direction of my house. The suddenly 2 fighter jets flying really low and shooting rockets at each other and then bomb alarm started (like in ww2 that typical bomb alarm sound). I run out of my house and i see a military truck picking up people while hear artillery and firefight in the distamce. I ran to them and ask what happens they said its world war 3 the americans shot dowb a north korean plane and thqts how it started. They picked me up gave me a kalash. Then my village was under artillery fire the church and several houses collapsed while i was driven away. While going through several villages i saw dead civilians and destroyed burning houses. Then suddenly everybody crying that Taaaannnkkk. I looked and saw a russian tank aiming at us. Jumped out the truck and the tank shot and got a frag in my shoulder (i even felt the pain for a few minutes after waking up later). Then a firefight started and i was just watching it while on the ground. Then they killed all our soldiers and an enemy soldier walks towards me. Stops. Aims at my head. BOOM. Woke up.

Dreams about world war 3 (or apocalypse) are truly frightening and also entertaining in some odd way :O

What about "Under the Dome"? A very interesting scenario, albeit not post-apoc. Really enjoyed that one

Yes, "Under the Dome" was pretty good, too. Great presentation of small society in crisis, untypical situation.

I just love Fallout and I've only played 1 and 2. It's just that the setting and the atmosphere is done so well. I love the fact that there's a reason for everything and it's a completely described world.
I just love it, outdated as it is :3
I'd like to play Wasteland 2, the Metro 203X games and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. because it's just a setting that I love :)

I didn't have a chance to play Wasteland 2, but Metro 2033 and whole S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series (modded, if posible) are really worth playing, if atmospheric gameplay is that what you're lookin for :)

I remember reading an awesome book about people surviving after a nuclear war which was caused by the lack of energy resources. And, during the war one of the sides developed and unleashed something like a zombie virus. Sounds like an awful book, but it's actually quite interesting. The characters are great, the plot is consistent and quite detailed. Sadly, I can't remember it's name, google can't help me either.

Sounds like, let's say, pretty typical postapo book :D But about lack of energy - there's a book called "One Second After" by William R. Forstchen. There's no nuclear war per se, but total blackout caused by EMP explosion (nuclear electromagnetic pulse). World without electrical energy is a mess. And, actually, very reliable.

Post-apo games and tv shows are cool, but books... I prefer fantasy and crime. Favourites: tv shows - The 100 and Defiance are great, and games - I enjoyed Mad Max, and Fallout is legendary.

Oh, I've seen a few episodes of The 100 and it was much better than I expected! Pretty serious for young-adults tv show.

Yeah, and it gets even better and darker later on. I'm really hyped up for season 3! :)

Hmm, post-apocalyptic stuff mixed with radiation creeps me out.
I can't stand gas-masks for example =D

Hm, I am also a fan of the genre. Some good posts in here. If you never heard of it, I really enjoyed "The Afterblight chronicles" (only read the firxt two parts, by Simon Spurrier and Rebecca Levene).

Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Also has sequel Metro 2034 (if I remember right there was talk about possibility for a third book but we'll see). ALSO there are two games about the books; games have really cool and scary atmosphere but I prefer the books :) I won't type up the story here, you can read about it on the wiki if you are interested.

I don't really like the genre because I think we can find ourselves in a similar situation and it's a bit frightening.
