Is College a Waste Of Money?
Congratulations! Psychology's gotta be tough, like I can't even imagine ^^;;
As for the poll, I chose "No, I got X Awesome job/career because of my degree" 'cause I'd like to believe that's what's gonna happen. In reality, I'm still writing my thesis...

I'm sure you'll get where you want to be one day :D Best of luck out there on your journey!

Congratulations!
For me, it honest depends on what you want to do. Some people do it was the "college experience", or as a transition into adulthood/breaking away from the parents, or because they prefer the learning approach that college provides (over self learning or on-the-job).
But really, it depends what you want out from it, career wise. Some things you obviously will need high education for, Medicine for example. Other things you don't need the high education to LEARN, but you require the piece of paper to convince employers you have learnt it, Bookkeeping perhaps? Other things you might not need a piece of paper, but going through the educational process allows you to network with others in your field and industry. Others again, it's the fact that you had the smarts and dedication to get the piece of paper is what's important, irrespective of what piece of paper that is.

Congrats. I had to select "other" because where I live most schools are free including universities, but private schools that cost money also exist here. I got my bachelors degree 3 years ago and last year I decided to go back and try to get masters degree. Now I'm starting to think it was a bad idea

Do you mind sharing why you think it was a bad idea?
I think master degree will help you have a better basis for further education, if you prefer researching route.
I dropped out of college, which put me unqualified for most master program, and I still regret it years later.

I meant it was probably bad idea for me, since the school is pretty difficult. When I was studying on bachelor program I didn't have a job, so I was kinda full-time student and it still took me 4 years (instead of usual 3) to graduate, because I had to repeat some classes and I had hard time writing my thesis. After graduating I got full-time job but when I went back to school I switched to part time, but that's still more of a burden than what I had on bachelor program. I'm not good at time management and I ended up doing some work for my job during (or instead of) lectures, so I couldn't fully pay attention and failed quite a bit of classes this year. Somehow I managed to get enough credits to continue, but at one point I was one failed exam away from not having enough credits.
Also I'm not really passionate about the research topics they work on at the faculty so it was difficult even choosing thesis topic. After new semester starts in september, I should start working on master thesis, but I have not chosen a topic yet, and when I looked at the list of topics I didn't really care about any of them.

Congratulations on your achievement. But moreso that you feel good about yourself and seem happy judging by this post (:

First of all, congratulations! Going through an upper education is tough enough, but you had to deal with so much at such a young age. With some fields education is not necessary, and can lead to debt growth, yes. But in your field, it's definitely needed.
Above all that, however, doing it helped you center yourself and discover your own strength. It helped you through a rough time, and also honored your great grandmother's efforts. You absolutely did the right thing, because you took that lifeline you needed when the world felt dark. You are an amazing young woman and we are lucky to have you on this silly rock with us.
Everyone you will help will think the same, and I hope you will also remember that throughout your life, and do your best to take care of yourself and your own needs and wishes too. Thank you for the giveaways, but thank you even more for sharing your story and for kicking butt. <3

Congratulations on the degree, and good luck on your future endeavors! I'm sorry for your loss, but I am also glad you found something you wanted to pursue ^^ I also chose computer science for university for the same reasons, haha! I graduated and started working just before the pandemic hit and am still working in the industry.
Personally, I think college really depends where you're from. In my country, college is almost a "requirement", so to speak. Almost all jobs here include a college degree in their requirements. Very few workplaces are open to people who did not go to college, and they're all low paying compared to other jobs... Workplaces only look past your education when you've already gained years of experience, and starting out work as someone who didn't get a degree would be rough. So in my country, I feel like it's very much worth going to college.
In other countries I feel a degree is not worth as much in comparison, especially for countries with no option for free higher education. Though I agree with others that college is an experience and you do stand to gain a lot from it (if you leverage the right opportunities). I would not have had the same opportunities I had if not for me expanding my network in college.

Congrats! I have one degree and now I'm pursuing my second (in a completely different field), so I can definitely appreciate how much effort you put into it. It's definitely gonna be really important if you want to work in the field, but even if you go on to work with something completely different it'll probably still gonna be helpful, often in ways you are unlikely to even notice. :)

Congratulations, and may it open new roads for you and those around you. :-)

The results are in and I'm happy to announce that I've graduated college!!!
It's not much but I've completed my degree, it's an Associates in Psychology that transfers so I can kinda speed run a Bachelors one day if I wanted it.
My reasoning: I did it for myself and the people around me. π
(Emotional tangent below, feel free to skip)
I haven't had the best life, I haven't had the worst life, but in the short period I've been on Earth, it's not been the happiest.
I'd struggled with my emotions and reactions to situations for a long time and my great grandmother put aside money for me to go to college and in the past few years, I thought it best to teach myself better when I couldn't afford therapy. I started with a major in Computer Science because I always heard how cool it would be for a woman to go into coding and my robotics teacher in high school encouraged me in it because I picked it up easily. Half way through, my father passed when I was 20 years old and that did a rough number on me. The pandemic and lock down happened the week before my 21st birthday and I didn't really have anyone to go to. Since I lived alone at the time and couldn't afford professional help, I decided to learn enough to help myself. I wouldn't go as far to say it's helped me become the rock of my friend group but it's helped me stand up for my friends more and support them better to help themselves as someone who was too quiet and afraid of the unknown myself to even begin helping others before.
I think in the end, what I wanted most was to one day be able to help educate and be better support for someone one day, the type of person I felt I really needed beside me when I was fresh out of high school, afraid of people, had no guidance at home, and no idea of where to even start asking for help.
I'd like to think I will be that for my younger half sister. Granted she has the benefit of having more support from her family than I could ever could imagine but I'm happy to say that she'd have me too.
Even if I can't be as helpful, she'll at least have me as the "At least I can't do worse than my sister" π
