Favorite Grand Strategy franchise?

What is the difference between Grand Strategy and a normal RTS?
Is it the addition of diplomacy between factions? (I see Civ is listed as Grand Strategy, and diplomacy seems to be the main difference there between other RTS games which are pretty much straight faction on faction)

Short answer: the scale. Long answer: In Grand Strategy games you control a whole empire for a long period of time, rts are just maps being played in real time. Some RTSs you have a campaign map, but you generally just follow the pre-existing steps placed by the devs set for you. (some times you may choose the order, but you never have full control) GSG you have full control on what to do next, which direction to expand, etc.
CIV is not exactly Grand Strategy, it's more Turn-based Strategy. GSG are real time with a pause button.
Well, I'm no expert, but I've been playing these games for a long time. Might be wrong here and there.

For now the group is more a fan group, doing some events/GAs, I hope that in the future we can organize some kind of game night to play together every now and then. If it were to occur, Xcom and Kings bounty would both be great choices :)

It's the third month of strategy games GAs here on SG. Hope you enjoyed previous GAs. The first being a Turn-Based Strategy, then a RTS and now a Grand Strategy. About the game: Europa Universalis 4 is a GSG made by Paradox and one of my favorite strategy games of all time.
