I don't think I am a compulsive steam game buyer. I know i have many games but most of them I earned by trading. Buying games on sale, reselling them for a small profit and then buying the games I want. Most of the times I only buy the games I want, although I probably will never be able to play or try them all. Sometimes I win games or I get a game as a gift that I try a few times and then lose interest in. I have over 1000 games in my library right now. The only time I buy games I don't really want is if they are in a bundle for 1$ and if they give cards. So I can at least get my money out of it.

I'm a guy, and I compulsively buy during sales/bundles. I don't think it's gender specific, I think it has more to do with personality/lack of willpower. Ironically, I am almost entirely exempt from this for physical goods, hard drives excluded. (Just ordered a fourth external hard drive)

thanks and, well, no sale comes and goes without buying some games... but i got carefully because of the stupid low violence german versions of games.. it's nice to have trustworthy friends outside germany who can buy and send you steamgifts :) but, yes, i buy games i so badly want to have. and then, of course, i don't have any time to play them all. i have about 850 games in my library, most from bundles, so no regrets, because they are pretty cheap... but i regret my first steam game purchase some years ago in a halloween-sale, because i was so stupid to buy borderlands and l4d in german low violence version :( but, well, now i can play these games with my german friends.
all in all, i don't see a difference between me and my boyfriend when it comes to buying games.. and i rather buy games than shoes or bags...

Agree with previous users, it's doesn't have anything with gender. I only compulsively buy videogames too (no clothes or other) but hope gradually play all of these. Have bought to put aside, simply to be sure never get bored. Videogames are fascinating, i love them !

Honestly, I don't really have this problem. I never buy anything in a compulsive manner and that extends to games. Sure, I have some rubbish games in my Steam library that I would prefer to get rid of, but I purchased them alongside other games in bundles back when I didn't now about the existence of Steamgifts. Actually, my older brother is the one who tends to purchase games compulsively - because they have cards and/or because they are cheap at the moment. I stick to my wishlist and to those games which I find truly interesting. Which is exactly why he has two times as many games as I have.

While I'm buying a lot during sales, it's always games that are in my wishlist or interested in. Besides, I'm not into fashion either. And to tell you, I can endure 1h30 of shopping but after that, I'm grumpy and bored.
And I agree with people, it does have nothing with gender: I know several users buying games because of cards and never try them and they're not female gamers.
However, I can perhaps be excessive with cards as I want the badges at level 5. But I can be patient. It reminds me that I have a booster pack for Enigmatis. Gonna unpack it.

47 games. Not a fan of credit cards so I use a debit card for online transactions. For safety's sake the card only has about $100 at a time. Therefore I can't impulse buy games due to the low limit on my card.
The game I regret buying the most is Hydrophobia: Prophecy. Reviews said it's not even worth it at $0.49, but did I listen? Nooooo. The game is so terrible and annoying. I just want to get it over with, get my money's worth and then uninstall it!

I buy shit I usually don't play during sales. I don't think chicks are any different. This is a behavior that has nothing to do with the sexes. The stereotype about female compulsive shoppers only applies to clothes.

As what I've been hearing, females are generally stereotyped as compulsive buyers during sales, and at times the stuff bought are usually unused or unwanted along the way. To be fair, I'm aware that it's a general stereotype and not true for everyone, and even males can be guilty of this.
Now, if you are a female and have at least bought something you didn't really want but just did so because it on sale, I just want to ask if you may have transferred that "behaviour" to buying games on Steam.
With Steam and other third party sites putting games on sale for 66% to up to 99% with price glitches (pretty much unheard of in other establishments), I'm pretty sure some of us males are guilty of it anyway, as most of us may already have huge Steam libraries full of unplayed and unwanted games bought from sales or won from giveaways. Heck, I haven't even mentioned those cheap bundles!
If so, what was your most regretted purchase? How many games do you have in your library? Did buying a major AAA game for 75% off feel just as great as buying a cute dress for 50% off?

EDIT: Changed the title to a much better one (I hope)
