Dear SteamGifts community,

I'm sad to announce that I have made the decision to step down from creating / maintaining bundle threads starting 01 Jan 2025.
I am not quitting SteamGifts, but I will remain active only through comments and giveaways.

This might seem sudden for you, but it’s a decision I reached after lengthy consideration. For seven years, I’ve been the main person to create bundle threads and I would have probably been able to continue for many more, if not for some external factors that were out of my control.

2024 was one of the more difficult years of my life. I’ve continuously been the target of online harassment and untruthful / unfounded accusations, in many of these cases without a way for me to disprove them. I considered explaining myself many times, but past experience shows that those who seek to harm me aren’t looking for an explanation, and anything I dare to say in my defense would only be twisted into even worse lies. It’s understandable that without opening up and showing my side of the story, some of you might have negatively changed your opinion about me. This was a risk I knowingly took, as the least bad of the two options.

Seven years of doing bundle threads is a long time and aiming to keep these bundle threads as informative as possible and posting them close to the bundle launch time required a lot of sacrifices on my part. My sleep was the first one to be affected, as trying to be online when a bundle might (not necessarily would) launch often meant cutting down on my sleep, shifting the flow of my entire day (thus affecting the schedule of my family and friends too) or even scheduling trips in order to accommodate bundle threads as much as possible, all that not even knowing the bundle schedule in advance, as this is rarely made public. Obviously, no one forced me to do so, but in regards to bundle threads, I always wanted to give my best, and for me that meant first and foremost creating the thread as soon as possible, especially in the Humble BTA era - a habit that I continued even after it, throughout the years. Balancing bundle threads and work never was (and still isn't) an easy thing but at least it improved my ability to handle multiple mental tasks at the same time.

Aside from bundle thread creation, additional time went into maintaining these threads too: reading all the comments & continuously updating threads with the information you guys kindly share (coupons, subs, free DLC to claim, out of stock items, etc.). Together with my daily activities on Barter.vg (syncing this information between the two platforms was primarily done by me), these ate a significant chunk of my free time, similar to an unpaid part-time job. I’ve never received any monetary compensation for it, and I never wanted any compensation in the first place. My reason for doing this was always to help the two communities and keep the information as comprehensive as possible. It’s the kind of work that would be boring for most people, and get even more repetitive over the years, but I’m the kind of person who derives satisfaction and a feeling of stability from doing the same thing over and over again. I've always struggled to find my place in this world, but bundle threads (and Barter to some extent) gave me the feeling of contributing to society in a way that suited me.

Looking back at all these, I realized that a change is long overdue, as scary as that change might be. Firstly, due to the current online harassment situation, being a public person brings me more harm than I am willing to accept. Needless to say, I shouldn’t let myself be affected by what others think of me or say about me. To some extent I can do that but there’s still a line when too much hostility actually becomes… simply too much. Secondly, I’d like to allocate this time to something else. I’m not yet sure what that will be, for now I will keep myself open to possibilities and see what life has in stock for me.

As I step down from making bundle threads on SteamGifts, I also step down from Barter.vg. I’ve been the go-to person for most things on Barter during the past ~9 years, dealing with pretty much anything that was needed at the time when it was needed, filling every gap when there was no one else willing to do so. That may have made people mistaken me as an admin having full authority on Barter, and as a natural consequence, I attracted a certain amount of hate regarding some decisions that were taken during the recent years, while in reality those decisions were not mine to take. I’ve been held culpable and blamed for things that I didn’t even do. Different user groups have directly accused me of the exact nasty behavior that they themselves engage in, to justify the very same, and intentionally kept spreading those lies about me.

Much like SteamGifts, Barter.vg works solely on a volunteer-basis, with people assuming certain roles temporarily and performing them whenever they see fit or when their time allows. Without someone to be there when no one else is available or as a backup for them, Barter data (bundles, giveaways, items, notices) will probably see a decrease in consistency in the near future. At the moment of writing this, I can’t tell in what way the platform will change (or if it will in any way). Its future and shape is still in talks with the admin because there are several other factors to consider.

I’ll end this huge wall of text by expressing my heartfelt gratitude to all of you who supported me throughout the years. You were the reason for which I was able to continue doing this for so long. Thank you for the laughs we had together, for keeping the discussions on the bundle threads drama-free, for helping each other (and me) by answering questions, submitting region lock information, prices in different currencies and correcting my mistakes. Going forth, I hope you will show the same kindness and support to the people who will step up and continue doing this work.

🌟 2024-10-30: Edit: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the kind words and positive energy you shared through these comments. Your response is beyond overwhelming. 💜

(I won't be able to reply to everyone, but I will try to answer some of these comments over the weekend.)

🌟 2024-12-08: A small update, mostly regarding my future activity on Barter.

Anyone who gave you grief for doing the site such a service is a misguided troll. Thank you for all you did and do. It is appreciated by most of us and certainly those with a shred of decency and real awareness of the dedication you gave to it, as a volunteer, for YEARS. <3

Although I don't peruse bundles threads much, I still can tell how much effort has been put in to make all of them possible.

Thank you for your work and I think from the comments here, you can truly tell that there is no need to take those toxic harassments to heart as the large majority of us appreciates what you do here. Enjoy your "retirement" and the life of an SG normie!

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been struggling this year, and sad to see you step down. Your bundle updates were an invaluable resource for me in the relatively short time I've been on SG, and for you to have maintained them for seven years (!!!) without any sort of compensation is amazing.
Thank you for all your kindness and hard work. Hopefully this change will allow you to get some well deserved rest.

I'm not a very active user on the forum or sg in general...

I still remember you from way back...

You've done an extraordinary job for the community, kudos!

the deals forum won't be the same without you.
thank you for your invaluable help and best of luck for all your future endeavors!

and you are right. sometimes you need to let go of old things to make room for something new. this is especially true (but also sad) when the old things don't bring the fun & joy they used to anymore.
i've been trying the same for some years now but shit keeps hitting the fan for me and i just can't seem to catch a break.
but soon(TM).

Thanks for the amazing work all these years. Your contributions, not only to SG, but to the trading scene in general, were invaluable. You have helped countless users with your discussions posts, which helped us easily check what games each bundle had, including a really intuitive format, and also informing about any regional restrictions these had. Thank you so much.
Not only that, but your activity in barter it's also greatly appreciated, not only for the traders, but also for people, like me, that wanted to check in what bundle certain game was in the past. For this I also wanna thank you, a lot.

It's a shame that some people were saying negative things about you, it tends to happen as it's the internet after all. Most people don't know the effort these kind of things take. And to do it for 7 years is just commendable. You deserve the world, and a very deserved rest for your voluntary work.

I wish you luck, and hope you know that you'll always be respected in this site, as one of the most important people in the community. Thank you for your hard work!

Wow, that sad. Even double sad.

One that you are stepping down. You did amazing work over those years. I was not super active in threads but I benefit a lot from them. You was my way to check what I have and check game plays.

From bottom of my heart - thank you for your hard work!

Second, it's super sad, that Internet rather than add open-mind to the world exposed so many bad things, behaviors etc ...

Stay healthy!

I want to say that your topics are not only informative in the sense of where and what to buy, but also generally helped me understand many things about regions, restrictions, finding information, etc. So thank you and I wish you to quickly find some other interesting hobby to fill the emptiness that will be felt at first.

Thank you for everything you've done.
It's completely understandable. It takes a big chunk of your life for something that you aren't getting paid for, and to hear anyone would harass you with lies when you are doing a good deed for the community is shocking but humans are a mystery. I hope karma comes for them.

Thank you, sensualshakti, for all the hard work you put into this. We, as a community, were immensely lucky to have used your bundle threads all these years. They are fast, informative, and always reliable sources of info. I have a spreadsheet of bundles I own, and every one of them is linked to your threads. I appreciate it.
It was hard work to keep all this running like clockwork, but to be honest, I'm glad you'll free that time for yourself. Thank you once again, and I hope I'll see you around :)

I've always been impressed by how much time and effort you put into these threads. I was hoping that the robots were doing the most of work :) Thank you for all your amazing work over the years! I wish you to rest and recover from toxic internet conversations, wherever they happened, to find peace of mind and comfort, and to find a new activities, new purposes and new fun, online and offline

That's pretty sad news, but it's totally relatable and had to happen at some point. Thank you very much for your dedication and the effort you put into this! Hopefully someone else steps up and continues this job at least either here or on barter. Enjoy more and better sleep soon, relax and find something else that fulfills you (in best case something you have more control over than bundles popping out of nowhere).

Regarding the harrassment: as soon as you become publicly known or kinda popular, haters will arise, be it out of envy, trolling or because they don't have better to do. Noone of us is perfect, thus it's easy to find a fly in the ointment if you really want. Even if anything was true: we all do mistakes and those mistakes don't make everything one person does bad, but many people having a hard time to differentiate nowadays.

Glad to see you're "only" stepping down and not leaving SG.

While I have hardly ever stepped into the bundle threads, I realise how much work goes into maintaining them. And reading how you have been the target of harassment, I can't help but feel that I have seen (and experienced) this pattern way too many times, be it online or offline.

It seems that people who go the extra mile are often met by people who go out of their way to make things difficult. And that takes away so much energy and drive that eventually, you will choose to not bother anymore. We all have only a limited amount of time and energy, and why would we put them into something that returns so much negative energy over time.

As I mentioned before, I didn't really use the bundle threads (nor Barter.vg, which I haven't even heard of before your post, old geezer that I am) but I appreciate that you must have put an insane amount of time and energy into that to keep others informed. So even though I didn't "profit" from it, I would like to thank you for all the work you have put in and hope that you can relax and fill up your tanks after your resignation from the Deals forum.

And I truly hope that you will find yourself less of a target of harassment in any kind of form. I know the effect it had on me, and in my case I would assume it was probably quite mild and something others could shake off easily. But it took (and still takes) so much out of my life force whenever it crops up again and then gets stuck in my mind on instant replay. Sometimes it's not even that fact that someone mistreats us but the way they go about it and the support they seem to receive without evidence or reason.

Sending you lots of positive thoughts and energy! 💙💗

I think we all will have gone through something like that at some point in our lives. Some may have had a worse experience, some may not have had any tools to deal with it. We can only hope that we have some people around us to help us out, even if it is just by listening and being there.

I can only repeat what I have said in regards to icaio's passing: While it saddens me deeply, I do hope that we all can take something away from these moments. For me, personally, it is heart-warming to see the outpour of positive feedback and heartfelt comments. That goes for icaio's death as well as this thread. And it is so interesting for me to see that most of the time that I feel a comment warrants a blue heart, the people are already on my list anyway.

Which basically means, you will eventually end up with the people who are good for you and who you should have around you. Kindness begets kindness.

Thank you for your impeccable attention to detail and dedication in keeping me informed on all the latest deals and bundles available. I would have missed out on many a game in my collection if it were not for your invaluable info. Thank you also for all your efforts on Barter which was used to help me in many a trade over the years. The services you have provided, in my opinion, are priceless so you should consider yourself a rare gem. I hope you find peace and maybe take some time to try and get through the 21K games in your Steam Library..that's one hell on a backlog!! 😊
