I use Whey Protein and Creatine.
Whey is very convenient imo, its a must buy for me,
Creatine is fantastic and does work, its make your lifts better, although once you stop taking it you will notice your lifts go down and its quite depressing, but Its good imo, just remember to take only 5 grams.

That dude is a beast!

Few pointers as a personal trainer, seeing as you asked about supplements.
There are very few people who actually need supplements.. Most who use supplements are wasting their money and their time(Talking about protein supplements of course, anything else is even bigger waste of time and money).

The whole purpose of supplements is to give you the missing protein that you need, IN CASE YOU DON'T GET ENOUGH from food, taking more will have no effect what so ever. If you do eat like a human being who is training(5 meals a day, 30 grams of protein after a workout, similar dose of carbs before workout) then you don't even need to look at supplements..
Anything else like Creatine is a huge waste of money as Creatine does not get stored in your body and when you stop taking it, it's effect will disappear(Unnoticeably bigger muscles(Mostly from water) and a bit more strength)

Creatine is stored already in your body.

Comment has been collapsed.

Creatine surplus is not stored in your body.

Creatine is used to create Creatine - Phosphate bond, when Phosphate is released during exercise it releases energy from the bond.

Days and maybe couple weeks after you stop taking Creatine supplement, your Creatine levels will drop back down to a bit above the pre-Creatine supplement levels.
I personally dislike bodybuilding.com because you need to know what you are looking for there so this thread there might be useful for you.

I do lift ^^ but my goal is not having such a bodybuilder body, but a well defined one.
I'm an acrobat and martial artist, so having a bulky body is just slowing me down.
As supplements I use Whey Protein and sometimes Kre-Alkalyn and BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acid).

And I hope you know how to use creatin? because you have to take them for a month and then take a month off and so on.

I personally don't use creatine, but I do use Whey. I'd suggest being careful what you buy, i.e. not Muscle Milk or some shitty brand like that. You generally get what you pay for with supplements.

As Snipah said, if you're eating like an athlete/builder would, you wouldn't really require supplements, but it would be more expensive than quite a few people could handle, so supplements are there to do exactly as their name suggest, which is supplement the missing nutrients.

Protip: I dunno what your workouts consist of, but if you're running out of gas mid workout, try either taking a protein shake about 30 mins before, or slip some powder into your water while you workout, it helps a LOT.

Creatine will not harm him if he dont abuse it. OP just play it smart creatine is a good thing loads of my friends use it but you have to be carefull some ppl recommend cycling it like you take it for example 1 month and then 1 month you dont take it. Reason why they do it because your body will get use to creatine so yeah... + giveing your kidneys and liver some rest is good thing. One more thing I forgot to mention if you dont see any progress in strenght dont use it. For some ppl creatine just dont work like it should.

Just my 2 cents

Well some ppl claim its better like that some ppl claim its the same. In my 1 and half year in the gym (yay proud) the most important thing I learn is that you should try everything. Just experiment and learn from your mistakes :D

Comment has been collapsed.

From my 1 year as a person trainer I learned that no one should try anything just for the same of experiment. I am proud to say I never even used protein supplements. I have a friend who never touched protein supplements or anything else and he is in a bodybuilding competition, don't waste your time on experiments that are useless.

Why do you think no one should try anything just for experiment ? I would have to say are bodys are diffrent. Neither do I use any supplements but I dont see anything wrong with protein ,creatine and sometimes pre - workout even tho I would have to agree some of them are bunch of money wasters.

Read my post above, Creatine effects disappear within days and maybe couple of weeks. Protein is a waste of money if you eat properly and pre-workout shakes are a waste of money because they give protein rather than carbs which is what you need to keep your energy up during the workout, a Banana is a much better substitution.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well what if someone is useing creatine for powerliftin ? Every 2 lbs counts... And about that preworkout part you cant rly compare banana with pre - workout... Pre - workout have 400 mg of caffeine banana dosent.

There is a huge difference between someone who works out for powerlifting competition to someone who goes to a gym 2-3 times a week or even more. The difference is that someone who doesn't works out for a competition doesn't need anything, including caffeine.

Everyone is different, genetics play a big role. I personally train in a fasted state and I find that I have much more energy than if I had a carb based pre-workout, Creatine works for me, but I can do without it, Protein is not a waste of money for some, protein meals can be expensive, it is a godsend and I will be using Whey for a long time, just because you do not take protein shakes does not make you more natural, Should you not be trying to get money from protein and creatine supplements if you are a personal trainer lol, I know morally it is up to the gym user and I respect anyone who helps others in a non 'Mike Chang' esque style, but you need some revenue from the gym, but I respect your view on supplements anyway, if I were to eat and get my nutrients from available foods then of course there would be no need for supplements.

No personal trainer makes money from supplement sale directly.. You get paid by the gym while they make money from selling it. If I convince someone to buy supplements here saying it is magic and they won't get buffed without it, will make me no money and will put me in the same line as the rest of the idiots that sell powders with "Muscle activators". And besides, I am not a sales person.

My posts here are simply to show that you don't need supplements. I had a thin friend that decided to start working out and he decided to buy mass gainers.. Guess what, months later and he still looks the same(I am not the trainer either as he never asked).
People tend to think that these supplements are healthy steroids, they aren't. And as I said, I understand why people would use protein supplements but Creatine is a waste of time, it adds Creatine into your muscle cells for more energy release which means more lifting strength. However, that is for a limited amount of time(As long as being taken) and when you stop taking it the amount of Creatine in the muscle cells drop back down to nearly the same level it has been before the use of Creatine, the reason it returns to a bit higher than the Creatine level before is because muscle gain increase Creatine level anyhow.

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, its all about the nutrients you gain, in which Protein poweder does supply you with nonetheless, I am not going to argue that Creatine is a waste because I have experienced it and I am currently using it but I am not going to stick with it for financial reasons, my lifts did go down when stopped taking it before and it is not nice for any lifter to see that, though Creatine does add some limited mass, Its ok if you are an avid lifter and you know how use it and you have money to spend, but yes, there are no shortcuts to getting bigger other than of course the use of Steroids, just eating in surplus and training hard, in regards to lean mass personally rather than eating double the amount of calories which I think is a bad choice depending on what you are doing.

Creatine increase muscle mass because Creatine is stored in muscle cells so your muscle mass increases(Again until the Creatine goes back down) and Creatine increases your water intake which again means appearance of increased muscle size.
The positive side, if we are already talking about is that during the time that you use it you lift heavier which means your muscles evolve, not faster than it would have normally.

I lift a bit and i use a bit of Sunwarrior, but i mainly just train martial arts the old way ( got an old school teacher, take a stone from here, put it there... ) rather than going to a gym. But mainly i just eat tons of healthy stuff and make raw smoothies rather than using supplements. A friend or two of mine that were pro bodybuilders are always recommending sunwarrior in their gyms.

Supplements aren't very important in lifting/fitness. Focus on regular workouts and nutrition (that is where you should spend your money - instead of buying some 'magical' supplements buy good food, protein powder and omega3 if you aren't eating plenty of fish). Good luck and don't give up.
