There are people with over 500 games, and they have a "top" game with tons of hours played, usually TF2 or another Valve game, then a few with over 10 hours, then like 10 or 20 with less than 3 hours, and the rest is left unplayed. Why do they want so many games if they aren't gonna spend a reasonable amount of time playing them?

Edit: I don't mean just having lots of unplayed games, that happens to me too. I mean people who seem to solely play their star game, be it TF2, CS:GO or whatever, and play almost nothing else other than that one game.

I ask my self the same question. The only answer I get is more hours on CSGO...

I've also noticed that the more games I pick up, the more I play CSGO. Is there a conspiracy to this?

I'm like that. I have like 2,300 hrs on TF2. However, TF2 was one of the first Steam games I purchased and I was hooked for years. Some games have high replay value and it is hard to turn away from them.

Most would be from bundles. For me, when a bundle comes out, I might buy it, only for 2 games, when I get 6-8 games?

what's a reasonable time playing them? 1 hour? 10? 100?

It depends on the game, maybe some can be finished in a shorter amount of time than others. What I mean is, don't play just 10 out of your hundreds of games. You should beat at least, I don't know, 50 of them, or 30.

to each its own, i guess. some people like to focus on some games but they also try others. if those games aren't to their liking then they leave them to rot in their unholy collections.
even warhammer games are forgotten into oblivion! that's why the old enemy has so much power!

go to hell, emperor! long live the old gods!

sorry for the rant, i think i have been posessed (yes, heresy much)

Heh, thanks, but you're the complete opposite of what I'm saying; you HAVE played lots of your games. I'm not saying they leave lots of games unplayed, that happens to everyone. I'm saying they play an extremely small amount of their games, and the ones they play they don't do much at all.

What if the game doesn't work (plenty of those in steam) or maybe they didn't like it.
You just can't collect hats in every game :(

if you asking about "why they taking a part on the steamgifts lotteries"... well, just some of them: ;-)

to be fully serious, this is just collections. most of them came from bundle, cheap games taken from sales, free keys from steamgifts and similar sites + for sure everyone can gather a lot games if only care a lot about fully-free keys given sometimes by HBundle, Indiegala, WGN etc...

building a private collections? why? why not : )

sometimes I will buy a bundle for one game, add the ones I don't have to my library and give the rest away. I've played a lot of games that show up as not played... Maybe because I've played them off line? Not sure... but I've played more than my steam library claims I have.

and even though I have a lot of games, if I were to add up the cost I've paid (with buying bundles and trading.) I've probably gotten all of my games for what my friends might have payed for just 4 or 5 pre- release or newly released games... So considering I don't usually buy DVDs, go to the theater often, go out and spend a lot of money at bars or concerts... its a small price for entertainment... :) At least that's what I tell myself lol
And I'm a bit fickle. Sometimes I don't want to wander the wasteland of Nevada in Fallout Vegas, sometimes I just want to mindlessly play Peggle. Its nice to have options...

I Bundles and other really good deals when I see them. Takes me a bit to get around to games, cause I get sucked into 2 or 3 main ones and all the others fall to the side.

+1.

(Installs new game)

"Well, this looks fun!
Oh... it has a tutorial.
Well, I'm no filthy casual. I don't need to do a tutorial.
Let the game begin!"

(Starts gameplay)

"Oh, okay...
Looks like I have to learn new controls...
Ugh, and now I have to learn a new story and be introduced to new characters?... Do I want to learn something new today? I'm tired.
Do I really want to learn a whole new keyboard/controller layout right now?
Why didn't I take this into consideration before installing it?"

(Pauses game)

"Oh, I forgot. There is that one game that I haven't finished yet.
Maybe I should go play that.
I still remember the story and the controls to that game.
Why didn't I finish it yet? I don't remember. (*I didn't finish it because it sucked, but at this point I don't remember that).
Well, let's find out! Maybe I'll come back to this new game next time."

(Uninstalls new game and forgets about it forever).

This brings up another point. I never finish most games (ok, almost ALL games) because I go back to play them and can't remember the $%$#% controls!"

Why are there people with so many people that pay attention to almost none of them? Shouldn't people just stop making people? It saddens me.

I buy mass amounts of games through bundles which makes it cheap and because I tell myself that I will play it. You know. Eventually.

Even though it will probably never happen.

I remember once, when a dev was willing to offer free keys to "poor" gamers. What transpired was shocking -- people with hundreds of games asked for free keys , not just the poor ones with only a few games.

I've read that people collect games on Steam; to buy games for a fraction of its original cost. But people such as me actually try to play them (played 123 out of 167 games). I do value the games in my library!

In my case, I need money to buy a new desktop, as the one I have is stone age and can't play most of the games, so I keep buying and collecting the ones I want to play later :)))
