cue talk about preorders being never worth it, overhype, yadda-yadda
I'm inclined to agree though, which is why I never preorder most of the time

just for discussion though, if you've ever preordered a game, out of all your preorders which one was the best and why? would make for an interesting topic to sieve out the diamonds from the grime

(and I already have an idea of what one of those diamonds might be ;) )

curses at his fingers accidentally hitting close button on the first thread

edit: wow! the amount of love for BoI: Rebirth (which, incidentally, is the game which i was thinking of) is quite overwhelming! :D
few other good picks here and there as well, i'll look into picking some of those up if i ain't got 'em

Bit.Trip Runner 2 is the only game I've preordered to date aside form Worms Clan Wars, so Runner 2 wins by a long shot.

+1. Almost pre-ordered, but was too busy building my new rig to get it done before it was finished.

I think I've only preordered one game, Portal 2 (me and my brother each paying half)
Well worth it of course. Absolutely amazing game. Had it on Xbox and now got it on Steam.

For me, Portal 2. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel runs a close second though.

The worst...Duke Nukem Forever. I bought it on the premise that Gearbox was doing it, so I went ahead and pre-ordered. I don't often pre-order unless the game looks like it will be awesome enough to warrant it. Found out too late that I should have waited. It's okay, but not worth the money I spent on it. :P

First game I have ever preordered and I'm not disappointed at all, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, awesome game.

I can't remember if I preordered The Orange Box but I don't believe I did so my answer is Uncharted 2. It definitely was on a whole new level compared to Uncharted 1 and to some extent even Uncharted 3. I'm not one to preorder at all though and most of my preorders used an Amazon glitch where I had a ECA coupon among others that made new games more affordable.

Do Early Access games count? I got Wasteland 2 in Early Access and I'm loving it so much I want to throw more money at the devs.

The best (and only) pre-order I've made was for Bioshock Infinite. I decided that the discount combined with the free XCOM: Enemy Unknown I got from it, would make it worth it even if the game sucked. It proceeded to not suck meaning it was a doubly good idea in retrospect. :D

the preorder i'm happiest with was blackwell epiphany. i regret preordering from dust (i didn't even end up liking it) and felt ripped off by preordering deus ex human revolution and then buying all the dlc instead of just waiting for the director's cut. i also preordered frozen cortex but haven't played it since they changed the name away from frozen endzone, and got in on the kickstarted for jagged alliance flashback but haven't played it yet. not sure if you count early access as a preorder, but i've been happy with prison architect.

my current stance on preorders is that they're a great way to support indie developers whose games i've played and enjoyed. this was the case for blackwell epiphany and frozen cortex. i don't mind paying full price especially when i got their older game(s) in a bundle. i can't remember if i preordered amnesia: a machine for pigs or just bought it on release, but while i was very disappointed in it compared to amnesia: a dark descent and the penumbra games i was still happy to support frictional games (at least i hope it supported them). i won't be doing it with aaa titles because waiting a year and picking up the game with all its dlc at about 1/4 the original price makes so much more sense when i have over 1000 games i haven't even installed yet.
