I'm currently platinium D-V in LoL and semi decent Dota 2 player. I would say pick dota, its more rewarding and more fun if played with good friends. All heroes are somewhat viable, where in lol you have limited pool of champions and only half of them is actually good. But both are good, there is no bad choice.

Depends what do you want.
If you want to farm more then Lol (keep in mind that if you are behind with farm you might not be able to recover).
If you want fast action from the start then Dota. (yes i know farm counts in dota but because he didn't played any moba so far i doubt he will end up soon in games where both teams focus on farming)

Regarding Lol if you live in US or have decent ping on NA server I suggest you to play there. EU servers are not friendly with beginers, euw is the worst if you ask me, in eune you might have a problem cause sometimes they don't speak english.

Lol will require a lot of hours to play to get the champs and the runes and it will take more time then in Dota ,where you have all heros, to find the right ones for you.

As a final note best thing you can do is to try them both. If you like them both then you can play them both :) .

Well, EU- Nordic,East(where I am), it's full of noobs, I can rarely say I found a good player.. and more than a half are polish, russian, and that stuff.. EU- West: everybody speaks english, and I didn't find that many noobs.. even at low level.

In euw case I can tell you for sure that at lower levels there are a lot of smurfs (either banned, perma banned or just starting a smurf for fun, to see if they get in a better league and so on). You can easily notice a smurf at lower levels: he/she will have high cs, he/she will build items that are not in the recomended list.
I sugested na server only to avoid some games where someone playing a smurf will flame him/her for not playing to well.

So lets go into a jurney..

League of Legends:

  • Balanced characters. - Edit: More balanced than in DotA 2.. that's fo' sure..
  • You have to play to win XP and IP(The currency) to get new champions.
  • More noob friendly, and can help you get into MOBA games. Like it did to me.

DotA 2:

  • Characters are NOT balanced! AT ALL! There are SUPER OP characters in the game.
  • You have all the characters from the beginning, you only need to play and get items for your characters to look cooler.
  • Not noob friendly, AT ALL.

  • buy Eul's=> ulti does exactly 0 damage
  • 6 seconds silence at level 16. Just kill/stunn him first. Can't be that hard.

mecanics are different. In dota 2 you can get bkb good bye to silence. besides AA does most damage later on. casters fall off and cc becomes secondary thing. In LoL championship S-II 49 different champions were picked where in dota The International 46 different heroes were picked. In lol at that time there was little bit more than 100 chapions and in dota there was a bit under 100. So there is no way you can say that lol is more balanced

I do not agree with your opinion on balance with Dota 2. It comes down to hero composition, as some matches might be decided before they even start if a team picks the wrong hero combination. Truth is, part of what is great with Dota 2 is that most (if not all) heroes FEEL op - it is just a matter of using them correctly. But there is a counter for everything.

Trolololol, I can agree if a hero is broken to the point that it is a disadvantage (spectre) but there are no super op heroes in dota 2. However in LoL

So which character is exactly "SUPER OP"? I did not see this. The only one is obviously Drow. And she is banned fron CM, so that's not a problem. The rest is really well balanced and with the right tactic you can kill everything.

And even Drow is only OP if anyone lets her farm and she obtains too many agility items. Otherwise, she'll be pretty frail and easy to kill.

this. Watch the pros play for both, that will tell you alot about both games. This more difficult crap is just that, and no DOTA is not nearly as balanced, that is pure fanboism

Thats not true. In dota 2 individual skill is more visible to spectators. In LoL current meta is farm farm farm, and game mecanics are made so small things matter, if you want to be better it has to be with positioning lasthitting ect. so players cannot gain huge advantage over individual skill. So everyone picks safe and avoid to do crazy shit all the time. Map is bigger in dota so ganks impact more ect. You cannot compare balance over pro games. If you watch navi vs randomassnoobs or Gambit vs herp-a-derpers_v.2 it looks the same.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you watch the pros playing for competition it may be safe play, but everyone has to play perfectly, the winner is decided by who makes least mistakes. That is hard as hell, it's like snowboarding, doing it well makes it look easy. Trust me unless you've been there you have no idea have difficult it really is. Besides I was talking about watching an average scrim game not watching LoL or DOTA champ games.

It's true that making no mistakes is hard, but where is the point? I find it more fun as a player to be able to become better in huge steps rather than focus on smallest of mistakes.

LOL?Balanced?BULL!
I didn't play DOTA 2 yet, but I do play LOL and I can tell its far from balanced.
The match making puts you up against people who are much higher leveled and have these runes and masteries that gives them a huge starting advantage at the beginning.
Then theres the OP/way too easy champions/just plain annoying: Darius, Teemo, Elise, Tryndamere, Renekton and some more I forgot.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not trying to be rude but you must be new. Teemo and Tryndamere are far from OP; while Elise does get banned she's not exactly OP, and Renekton is a strong top but can be countered. Darius is a little OP but just got nerfed, and is still manageable if you play as a team.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Notice that I didn't mean that everyone on that list is op, some are just plain annoying to play against or are super noob friendly and anyone can do good with them.
Teemo can just stay in place with autotarget on when he maxes his darts and go afk and farm creep score and the ridicules poison damage+attack speed items will keep any champion away, Tryndamere is such an annoying son of a bleach to play against, he will almost always get fed because his ult makes him unable to die and being able to win any fight after he builds some items and even more if he gets guardian angel, and can turret dive you 24/7 without giving a shit.
And Renekton got a double-dash that deals damage and stuns, you call that OK? I don't remember his other abilities but I remember he also dealt a nice amount of damage after these dashes, also only played once against him not including the few bot games Ive played.

He must be new and never heard of counterpicks. I have seen one complaning that Pantheon is op. Indeed, he might be strong mid-early against a lot of champs, but he scales badly.

How about that list:
-darius : pick anyone able to kite him (jayce, teemo, kayle), or if you want to go for a skilled matchup, pick an ad caster: riven, renekton, garen, ...
-teemo : I prefere not to comment on this one :))
-elise : well, here I agree with you. Fuck Elise, broken champ. Whenever I have to play against her I pick jax - farm safe and wait for level 11 or gank.
-trynda : hmm, pick any bruiser / ad caster
-rene: kennen, jayce, rumble, lee sin, elise

I tend to say that only "broken" champs are Jax and Elise. I mention Jax because he does handle incredibly great in lane vs a vast amount of champs for a hypercarry.

Sidenote: if you take teemo, pray that you will do fine in lane.

I played both, and I personally liked Dota 2 better. All the characters are unlocked from the getgo without needing to buy any of them, and the premium items you can also get randomly from playing and trading. I also like the artstyle way better and the moves seem more explosive and action-packed to me. They both take a lot of time and you'll need quite some time to get the hang of these games, especially Dota 2, which is harder and encourages playing a lot more different characters, which means it'll take longer before you get amazing with these characters. I recommend playing it with friends, because the random teammates can be quite rage-enducing.

Also, in DotA 2.. everybody quits.. I won 2 matches because the other team left.. ENTIRELY.

Well this might be the case when you are just starting and playing with people that are still just checking the game out (like you) or at very low skill levels. After a few matches, those guys are sent to low-priority queues (quitting the game before it finished gives you an abandon, just a few of those send you to low priority, where you only play with people with similar offenses) and you will move on to games where everyone wants to play it more seriously.

Of course, people will be assholes and rage-inducing from time to time, but this is true of every multiplayer game, specially dota-likes. Thankfully you can report and/or mute them. I got a few messages from the game saying that people I reported where punished and sent to low-priority. Feels good, man :)

That's mostely when you're just getting into the game, people don't realise that that ruines the game. However, in LoL, I've seen super early surrenders too. But, I'd like to take some of your points on as well

  • Dota 2 is a lot harder, but there is a huge pro scene where you can learn amazing strategies for and the suggested items actually make sense, which is a big part. If you've got some friends who play Dota 2, it'll be a little harder to learn but I personally find it more rewarding.

  • I like that you have all the characters unlocked from the start. I was bored with the characters in LoL a lot faster and in Dota, I only played a single character 5 times in 100 games. The characters are all different, and some combinations are OP, but with the way that captains mode works, which you'll probably be using once you get somewhat serious, the characters will be spread evenly accross both teams. I personally didn't have too much trouble with certain characters being OP, because there are always good counters and where some attacks are very strong, the hero usually needs some farm and is squishier.

Also, I've seen a ton of people going on about Smite, most say it isn't as good as Dota 2, but it looks cool and might be easier to understand.

BOTH. I actually play LOL and Dota. Started with Dota cause a friend of me is playing it VERY often, and so he wanted me to play with him. So we started playing and he explained most things to me, how to play, what to buy, etc. So, I have to say, without him, I think I would never have learned how to play Dota. It's more complicated then LOL and harder. Better enemies and stuff, more stuff to buy in-game.
Oh and theres the nice fact that in Dota you have all heroes from the start. In LOL you have to buy them. But you can say it's good and bad at the same time. While everybody has the same chance in Dota with the heroes, you have to learn the heroes first, and they are a lot. You need a lot of time and you have to decide between 30-50 (definitely not sure) heroes right before the game starts. In LOL, you have the free heroes of the week + the heroes you buy with in-game money OR rl-money. You can learn to use the heroes easier, cause you just use the new you bought. Then you have a few and you know with which one you are good.
So Dota is harder in my opinion, but a lots of fun. LOL is easier and a lots of fun, too. Both are awesome, and I play the game in which more friends are online. ;) So, in the end it's your decision, but dont say "That one is bad" or "That one is shit", cause both are awesome. And LOL was before Dota 2, but Dota was before LOL. And LOL and DOTA are almost the same if you play them ingame. You can Jungle, a Shop, 3 Lanes, Creeps, Special Creeps, Towers, etc.

see I really think this harder issue is just propagated by people that lack experience in both games. That is directly due to the learning curve. You play against people in both games, the complexity in LoL comes in the higher level play that you just don't see starting out. Also due to the superior matchmaking and much larger player base you get insulated more from the really good players so your experience in LoL is a much better learning curve, against much weaker competition. You play DOTA2 and its complexity is apparent immediately and you get thrown in against superior competition all the time. Thats where the stigma comes from. People should recognize this.

I can't really say anything about this argument because simply I stopped playing both about a year ago. As was stated before, Steam fan-boys/girls are going to say DotA 2 simply because its Valve. I only played 2 matches in DotA 2, and there wasn't a tutorial, only an assumption that you knew every aspect of the game and how to pay the instant that you installed it. DotA 2 made me stop playing League, simply because although I had an extensive playing history in League, DotA 2 made me dislike MOBA gameplay. People can defend DotA by saying that it is more balanced than League, however, from the MOBA players that I have as friends that play both LoL and DotA, DotA is extremely unbalanced. LoL nerfs and buffs character nearly every week, if not every other week. Sure, you need to buy champions on League to get them on a permanent basis, but there is a roster of free champions to play that changes every week, to give player that cant pay for the characters a chance to play them, and every character is in the rotations, some might appear more often than others but they all get there. I am unaware if DotA changes gameplay during the season, however, I have seen League change it mechanics as well as completely changing characters several times over the past few years. I don't however really care to keep track of DotA.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Its beta. You are supposed to know Dota to test it.

They are in the process of making a tutorial though.

2nd, you don't have the right to judge the balance of the game if you just played 2 matches lul.

3rd Having changes every week is a headache for players moreover to pro players, having weekly changes doesn't make a game more balanced. Maybe they should rethink the hero mechanic harder before releasing it in the public because before a hero is released in Dota, it is thought very carefully

League of Legends is a nice mix of noob-friendliness and competitive play. With LoL, I feel like it's easier just to drop in a play a couple games every now and then and not suffer from skill loss. DotA 2 is a much more serious game. It's highly unforgiving, and it generally feels more difficult to comprehend. LoL's biggest problem is that its community feels heavily populated by 12-year-olds who never never attended school, at least not English classes.
