If you're good and you want to win, play lol.
If you want to play something because you like competitive games,or you want to get better, play dota. The only problem is that in low-level matches, you'll met a lot of noob people blaming you if you don't "do dmg!!!21112" even if you're a damn support.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is better than both.

Awesomenauts. MOBA is pure evil, but if you really want to play it, pick awesomenauts

So, here we go again.
Whole MOBA genre (action RTS, according to Valve) are great, but the community is terribad.
I would chose DotA/Dota 2 because it's more challenging and more fun than others. BUT, it also has really big con: Russians, theyr skill and theyr language (not offense Russians xD)
The second one I would pick is League of Legends. It's easy gameplay is fun indeed, but it's easy and Brazilians are boring. It also has fantastic lore.
The third place takes Awesomenauts, the new 2D MOBA from Romino games. It has cute 2D Graphics, fun as hell gameplay, really great soundtrack and hilarous credits. It takes the third place because it's different, and it's altenative choise (which means it doesnt have real cons)
The rest are HoN, Rise of the Titans and SMITE. I wouldn't sort them to places because I've never played them. I hope this will help.

I'd say LoL if you're a total newb. When you get some experience try dota.

I'd go for LoL, dota 2 sucks for latin american people. I can seriously feel like a shit playing with almost 300 ping, while at LoL I'll just have a little harder time lasthitting and positioning.
Still it's pretty obvious that Dota is for more skilled people. I guess that's a pro if you are the competitive (and a little more obsesive) kind.

Lol is for casuals, sorry i played this game for over 1 season and after switching to Dota 2 i never looked back.
With Lol you also have to spend ridiculous amount of time grinding to unlock certain champs/runes/lvl which is surely not enjoyable.
Dota2 has much more depth, is harder and more competitive.
Now Lol fanboys deal with it.

Invoker is more complicated than the whole of LoL. or
Invoker is more complicated than LoL in its entirety.
more is necessary to imply that the level of complication is greater
than vs. then
game is redundant as you're talking about a game
And really, no.
Dota is complex yes, but so is League.
The mechanics are just far more unique in Dota.

League of legends > Dota > League of Legends >>>>>> Dota 2
Dota got me started on MOBA's, but League is easier and more diverse in terms of champs and fun and more of my friends play it in general
however, league is less challenging and has less diverse builds
League is about the same as Dota as a game, but is both better and worse in different areas
Dota 2 is just plain annoying though. i never really got into it

I play both, Dota first then Lol, HoN too but only when its early release then stopped since feel like copy-paste of original dota but hard to adapt, difference item name, heroes, but dunno how today developed.
both has its unique gameplay, pros and cons, as for community dont mind some asshole, in internet u can always find em everywhere
generally about gameplay IMO, LoL is easier for starting MOBA genre since death has no penalty. But if u change to DotA u will find it hard. If the other around, play DotA first - just like me, i find it easier in LoL.
as for other feature such how champ/hero available or not, how business done, and community features, i prefer DotA.
because i like how every hero unlocked form start, random drop item, let user participate in creation of item cosmetic, and off course in steam. Its kinda annoying in Lol when i cant use draft pick mode since i dont have 16 champ yet.
Anyway, im playing both seriously and i'll ace it for sure

LoL is much easier so everyone can play it, Dota 2 is better, u need more skills...
Also, in LoL u will play with lots of kids who will rage and will think they are something, but after all, they are just kids under 15 years old...
So if u want serious game to play and show your skill, play Dota 2, if u want to play something for fun and no skill, play LoL..i played both and Dota 2 is much better and more balanced...

I totally disagree with your comment. You're only talking about casual very low elo bracket games in lol. Play against some high skilled player in LoL and you will see what I mean.
If it was such an easy game most people wouldn't get stuck in low elo brackets with their terrible win ratio.
Based on my experience with 3k+ games played in lol, I've seen many games where 1 to 1.2k elo player lanes against 1.6-2k player. Like %95 of the time the low elo guy becomes a huge feeder "like going 0/6 in 10 minutes".

i was actually in golden league i had about 1700 elo...it was worse playing on 1700 elo than on 1400...last pick don't pick what left but what he want...some of them then start to feed and leave or something...and everytime i was last pick and played support, ad carry was not even able to last hit as ad carry...but nvm..i don't play it anymore...:D

If u wanna play MOBA - play LoL, cos Dota 2 is not MOBA. :)

Dota would be my choice. I do enjoy playing both games but Dota just has a better feel to it. I much prefer the style, heroes and the skill requirement. LoL community kinda sucks too, especially when you join a game a 4 people immediately call mid. As long as your friends have played it long enough to teach you the basics, I'd go for dota.

As a platinum player in LoL, I recommend it.
I'm not sure about how noob friendly it is like everyone is saying... In these games you're not fighting against game mechanics but human opponents. As far as I know, mostly casual gamers are playing dota2 so it wouldn't be too hard to get into.
Only big downside about lol for new players is you need to grind IP to get champions and runes, also there's a leveling system you need to reach lvl 30 ASAP.
Best thing about LoL is you can watch tons of competitive game/tournament streams on twitch.tv. Competitive scene and streaming part is very active in LoL it can help you a lot to improve yourself in game.
